My Dad wanted to go but my mother refused. She agreed reluctantly to go to Canada on the same deal. My Parents and I with my brother arrived in Guelph , Ontario, my mother stayed 2 weeks and then left my Dad to return to the UK. My Dad said she could go as long as she took my brother and I back tot he Uk. He stayed in Canada and married a Canadian woman. My mother remarried a rich man but then sent my brother to live with my Dad in Canada when we turned 13 as my stepfather didn't want to raise teenagers. I arrived in Canada to live with a guy, My Dad I never knew. My step mother was a pedophile. My mother at 88 is still alive and is so glad she never went to Australia. She is bedridden in a senior home and watches your show and glad she never went to Australia. My life has been a nightmare. Travelling backwards and forward to Canada and the UK. My parents paid 10 bob to go to Canada . I should have stayed in the UK and continued my schooling at a Grammar School as I had passed my 11 plus. I admire immigrants that succeed and put their past behind them. My brother has married 4 times and now lives in the US. What a mess

What exactly were these whiners expecting? Were they thinking a gilded mansion and a luxury automobile would be waiting for them once disembarked? In a pioneer environment one must be prepared to adapt, make sacrifices, and work hard. Over time those efforts will pay off.

We should have stayed in the U.K. there was nothing in WA for us. The government insisted 5 of us kids be put in an orphanage( fairbridge in Pinjarra). There were no jobs here for us, and my 2 eldest brothers joined the army asap.

Yes, but it painted as a great lifestyle. Maybe for people with trades, it was but not for the unskilled.
