I think you're wrong. The "ordinary data" is specified, and the type of data allowed is not FSD relevant.

It's a funny world we live in, where ideologies can get flipped upside down. Sometimes countries that claim to be capitalist can resort to protectionist measures like tariffs, hindering competition. On the other hand, some communist nations might embrace market reforms to a certain extent. It's all about pragmatism, I guess! ^_^

Baidu the company the Chinese Government partnered Tesla with????
As of Q3 2022 has already done 1.4 million paid robotaxi rides
As of Q3 2023 4.1 million paid robotaxi rides
you really have to dig into multiple western media articles to gleen this real information… rather than Tesla is going there to introduce robotaxis
To me sounds like instead of Tesla FSD they will export Baidu Robotaxis App in Tesla vehicles
      👇
Baidu starts offering nighttime driverless taxis
      December 26, 2022
Starting this week, the public can ride its robotaxis in Wuhan between 7 am and 11 pm without safety drivers behind the wheel.
Previously, its unmanned vehicles could only operate from 9 am to 5 pm in the city.
The updated scheme is expected to cover one million customers in certain areas of Wuhan, a city of more than 10 million people. Like most autonomous vehicle startups, Baidu combines a mix of third-party cameras, radar and lidar to help its cars see better in low-visibility conditions, in contrast to Tesla’s vision-based solution.
In August, Baidu started offering fully driverless robotaxi rides, charging passengers at taxi rates.
In Q3, Apollo Go, the firm’s robotaxi hailing app, completed more than 474,000 rides, up 311% year over year.
Accumulatively, Apollo Go had exceeded 1.4 million orders as of Q3.

Supposing China actually did this they would require a reciprocal. This implies Elon Musk made promises he intends to keep with China without consulting the United States government. This also implies he is operating at a level above governments of the world. This is a very heady position to be in, so let’s hope he keeps his head together.

If you look at this in the long term, cars are going to become a commodity. Sure EV’s are too expensive, particularly in the West, but that will change and there quickly won’t be much profit in this as there will be so many cheap good EV’s.
Much better to go the SaaS model, limit your physical cars to a few desirable profitable models and licence out your software whilst keeping control of it yourself. It’s an obvious model for the long-term, it just needs the tech to evolve to a point where it’s feasible.

By 2023 law in China robo taxi need at least remote operator , robo shuttles and robo trucks need in vehicle safety operator .
It's not the data transfer thats the problem, its US protecting its car makers as it has done since 1960s, when it was clear GM and Ford cant handle free market.
Example the ban of small pick ups in US, for "safety" reason, that goes out of window right a way, old war jeeps are allowed on US roads, no doors, no seat belt, no safety.

Actually people asking for the steering wheel nag to go away may not like the result. Which will be that the internal camera will constantly require your eyes to be on the road. No more looking away for more than a couple of seconds and that only when there is no traffic around.
In other words you will have to be even more alert with your eyes on the road..... which might be more tiring on long trips than just having your hands hang on the wheel.

The only other thing more boring than an electric car would be an electric car that drives itself. I’ve rented EVs in 3 different countries and I’ve honestly tried to get excited about them but I just found them to be bland, lacking character and a bit boring to drive. But that’s just me, my friends have EVs and despite range issues are reasonably happy with their choice.

  • @Kukaboora

True AI does not need much data. If you have to rely on data for AI to work, that AI is constructed in interpolative mode. It knows within the boundaries of dataset but not beyond, aka the edges problems.
As a human being, I could be in Timbuktu for the very first time and I can drive on any roads in Timbuktu without any prior knowledge ( dataset) of any roads of Timbuktu.
That is because I can recognize what a drivable surface is with seemingly very small set of facts and data. Simply put, we extrapolate from facts of a small dataset when we encounter some unknown circumstances.
It seems to me the large part of population has very bad conception of what AI or AGI is and falling for “large set of data” AI. And worse, they keep talking about it.

All he does is dropping a ball, catch another one, no focus at all. Even the viking recognize that the goal of Tesla is not producing cars anymore and all it has become is a gamble.
