I, too am infatuated with the guitar. I listen to classical guitar pieces daily, as I have for 30+ years. I cannot play due to my disability, but am grateful for my good hearing. The guitar is ‘king’.
Having trained in guitar, but lost my skills from giving it up for a long time I am staggered to find out just how far classical guitar standards have come in the last 20 years. If there is a more perfect guitarist in terms of tone and nuance than Drew I would be surprised.
I know several cellists learned to play classical guitar. The best known was Konrad Ragossnig. He was cellist first and changed to guitar after listening Andres Segovia
Drew, to listen to you and to see you while playing is just what we need in these days. For one who as an amateur has been practising guitar playing for over 60 years one wander how a human being is able to handle this instrument as you are.
Interesting discussion of the pieces and Drew's guitar heroes. Williams is my first guitar hero. My guitar teacher gave me a copy of the Seville Concert video in 1994. In 1996, we saw Manuel Barrueco at the Backyard outdoor venue in Austin. Drew and his duo partner, Michael, have become my young guitar heroes.
Beautiful music of course. But what a master this man is of the instrument. I have never heard such mastery and musicality on a classical guitar. Brilliant.
como siempre tus interpretaciones las llevas a tan alto nivel de calidad técnica y interpretativa que consigues emocionar....muchas gracias por compartir tu arte con nosotros... gracias por tu honesto trabajo y seriedad eres un ejemplo a seguir.
I haven't heard this piece since Manuel Barrueco recorded quite a few decades ago and very excited to listening the flawless rendition by virtuoso guitarist Drew Anderson.
I guess the "thumbs downs" are from folks with jittery fingers that missed the "thumbs up"? Not many people who can hit all those hammer-on's and pull-offs so fast and accurate. Really enjoyed this! Thanks!
Terrific performance! I adore the Scarlatti sonatas, and the Sonata in G has been a favorite for many years. I have never heard it played by a guitarist before. Thanks so much!
Drew this is amazing! Your ease and execution while spending as much care in the musicality is so incredible. Particularly K. 213 is so beautiful congratulations 🥳
Drew - wonderful thoughtful and passionate playing. As a guitar player myself for 60 years, I was fortunate to hear Segovia in person as he performed in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. Segovia had a presence from the stage. I see you with a similar composure and purpose. I grew up listening to the Scarlatti harpsichord Sonatas - father and son. Ralph Kirkpatrick's recording best captured (for me) the pace, playfulness and utter genius of the musical thoughts weaving in and out of the hundreds of harpsichord sonatas composed. This is the first time I have experienced the intensity of Scarlatti performed successfully on the classical guitar. I will look for future recordings from you. - Michael, 11Jul2020
Beautifully light playing, great tempo control, good choice of Scarlatti sonatas, great setting and well-filmed. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Great stuff!
Exactly as crisp as it has to be when it has to be. I can tell that, despite your concentration, you're not taking the tone of that beautiful guitar for granted. This is really amazing. I have to listen to more Scarlatti...
Beautiful playing- both in execution and conception. You do know, don't you, that Scarlatti is next to impossible on keyboard... it looks like a bloody nightmare on GUITAR! Your r hand finger control is unbelievable. Well done mate. EXQUISITE. Man, you're so good I can't stand it!!!
@@JoanKSX after I listened Drew playing K490, I said....I need to listen the K490 played on harpsichord. I still like better the Drew guitar :) Unbelievable sound! 😍
I love Scarlatti! I just watched the Now Hear This episode on him so this was great timing :) This was an incredible performance. I’m amazed at the level of control of dynamics and tempo. Also I’m impressed by your transcriptions! Thanks for uploading.
I'm only 1 minute in, but I have to say this is such a beautiful piece and I mean of course you played it flawlessly. Unreal, you truly are on another level!
Thank you so much. If you like Scarlatti, I'll be going in on this week to record what I believe is the most beautiful sonata, stay tuned to find out what that is!
@@DrewHendersonGuitar Scarlatti translates so well the guitar baroque music to harpsichord, like couperin did to the baroque lute, is far more sofisticated than any guitar composer, sanz, corbetta, robert de visee, guerau.
So good, I had to listen a second time right away. Yes, John Williams - the Seville Concert. Congratulations on a wonderful performance. The recording and the video are world class, right along with your performance.
I have watched all of your videos Drew and thousands of classical guitar videos. I can honestly say that I think you are the greatest classical guitarist alive today. Your technique and musicality are on another level. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent.
Honestly, I'm no expert. Can't play the guitar at all. But I've always had a love for hearing it. And you are absolutely astounding. I could listen to this video over and over. Thank you so much for sharing it. Your skill is stunning to say the least. I'm totally subscribing.
bravo. excellent technique. very clean very fast. full barre chords alternating with melody right on beat - high level of difficulty. masterful interpretation - just the right amount of rubato. bravo.
Great stuff, and such a crisp sound. Also picking the trills (which I've noticed is a contemporary way of playing classical) seems to work very nicely, and requires great technique. Well done. The infamous Scarlatti.
Outstanding! I have always held Barrueco's versions as the benchmark for Scarlatti on solo guitar (and of course the Assad brothers for the duo version) but you have just raised the bar. Delightful!
@@DrewHendersonGuitar Many thanks! Things are going well. I'm in Berlin at the moment and still playing and watching your videos for inspiration. I just learned a fugue and will record it sometime soon. When you have some time we should have a chat.

I've been a cellist for my entire life...I wish I had taken this up earlier. I'm completely infatuated with classical guitar.
I know several cellists learned to play classical guitar. The best known was Konrad Ragossnig. He was cellist first and changed to guitar after listening Andres Segovia
I am a classical guitarist I wish I had taken up sitar it’s just out of this world no western instrument comes close to it
Some of the best Scarlatti I've heard.

Unbelievable technique. Sublime. You’re my new favourite guitarist. Bravo, sir.
Truly exceptional work Drew! So clean and full of vitality. I loved it :)
Making it sound so effortless and natural, which is of course very difficult and amazing! Thank you.
You are one of the best guitarists I've heard in a long time : stylistically, technically, musically. Keep going!

What a clean sound like a Crystal ...so beautiful...
Drew, absolutely fantastic music making. I always expect the highest quality when I’m looking at a video you have produced. There’s never a doubt!
There are many excellent performances of Scarlatti out there. But this sits on a level way above others.
Great pairing of these Sonatas. K. 146 is such a great contrast to the D minor Andante. Amazing playing as always!
Thanks Abshir! Hope to see you soon.
Your videos are just so perfect. The lightning, the acoustics, the edits, the technique, but most of all: the musicality.
Beautiful guitar sound exelent playing !
I was soothed by the beautiful and wonderful performance. Thank you very much.
Fucking killed it again Sir Drew!
You are a true virtuoso!!

Que bien suena la guitarra en el ámbito de la Iglesia. Me gustaría estar aunque sea detrás de una columna para llenar el alma de esa musicalidad !
amazing, you should record an scarlatti sonatas album
Luminous, clear, commanding musicality! I tribute to Scarlatti's brilliant mind and varied approach to his Sonatas.
