Drew started as a student of mine and advanced so fast I needed to get him an interview with the renowned Eli Kastner, who taught the editor's of the RCM Guitar Syllabus. I have fond memories of guitar shopping with him at the 12th fret in Toronto. The guitar he wanted was not on the shop floor, but hidden away! Truly a gifted, astounding musician, and great guy.
Bach speaks of kings and queens, life and death in tones. And this guy fully understands the tales. Really impressive. You can grow wise listening to this.
Beautiful insight. I have always tought Bach is THE perfect music for watching some chess analysis (I wouldn't say playing it, as silence is the perfect match for that oc, although I have also done that). Put those together and It's like a mistery unraveling in front of you.
You are very poetic but I do recall that Bach added to his hand written music the phrase "All the Glory belongs to God" Unfortunately many Royals in history were inbred morons who sent entire generations to die. Also, most great artists came from humble families. New Royal Kids are gorgeous thanks to Diana ,Grace and Kate. Great Bach on Guitar, the G minor on 7 string Is Heaven.
Grazie maestro ❤
I have always felt that only plucked string instruments can truly capture the beauty of Bach's music. You can feel the touch of every pluck, the breath of every fingertip. It's as if the musician's fingers are directly touching your heart. Without a bow or keys, it speaks intimately to you.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind words. Every note in Bach’s music is so important, it takes a long time to do a piece justice. I actually recorded this three times!
@@DrewHendersonGuitar as you say EVERY note in bach s music is so important, no other composer has this ability this is why it is important to put all this effort into playing his music and this is why i can only remember bach 's music in my brain. strange but understandable ?

You really need to post more Drew! You really nail Bach. I showed a friend of mine this upload who is as picky as it gets with Bach and he really loved it. Hope for more!
the problem is that listening you one can think that the guitar is a very easy instrument and that it is so easy and natural to obtain this wonderful sound and this wonderful interpretation! bravissimo, it is a pleasure to listen you
See ! It's also happens with our holy Life. The most it seems easy or easier, the most it needs to be attentive, careful, openminded ; in a single word, wise. It' a 24/24 hours 7/7 work ! And it works :)
Please, give us more of this amazingly and beautifully performed Bach. This kind of music is a relief and consolation in these challenging times. Thank you soooo much!!
I would have to disagree. John Williams really let the music do the talking on his old Bach album, with simplicity and clarity, but steady rhythm and no embelishments, and It's simply breathtakingly beautiful. I do like this version here, but its the most "extravagantly decorated" version of this song I've ever heard (sarabande). Still great though! Just my 2 cents. 👍
Such a strikingly beautiful performance. One thing I haven't seen commented on (at least in the ones RUclips has put near the top...) is the wonderful dynamic control.
This guy is so friggin good! He plays flawlessly the prelude I've spent a ton of time learning, and greatly expresses the more complex passages in this piece as well. Wonderful playing Drew!!
His technique is a performance by itself. Not that looks easy , just easy for him. No doubt a life time of hard work and sacrifice accompanied by dedication and unhindered focus. Thank you Sir !
It is one of the best illustrations of difference between a third-rate amateur and a real professional (yes, I am learning Prelude). Perfect, gorgeous and sublime performance, as usual. But I must say that while watching your marvelous performances I not only learn “how it should be” but I also get an enormous charge of inspiration and truly heavenly joy. Your recordings empower me to move further, to practice more diligently and to aspire for more. Thank you so much. Merry Christmas! And more inspiration and eternal music next year!
Gracias Drew excelente disfruté muchísimo tu interpretación de estas obras tan complicadas de tocar de Bach.Muchas gracias.Ricardo De Luca desde Santa Fe Argentina
It is incredible how a baroque composer could create these authentic wonders with the lute, and on the other hand the Spanish guitar with that large box gives another dimension to the sound.
"Sarabande" brought three words to mind as I thoroughly enjoyed it: mesmerizing, captivating, and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your gift of music with the world. Had surgery yesterday and this piece brought a type of healing salve for my soul that I didn't know I needed. Again, thank you, Sir. May peace, excellent health, and blessings overflow in your life. Take care and stay healthy. (Smile)
My dog is freaking out because of fireworks and she’s calm now after we cloistered ourselves in the bathroom and I played this on my phone for her. I was trained on the classical guitar in childhood and return to it from time to time, but your playing is so beautiful that it just makes me want to give up 😂
Perfect pace, gorgeous steady rhythm and so expressively played. And that guitar must have cost a fortune - it sustains long enough to savour the last chords of every cadence. This video is pure meditation. Thanks for the great work you put in to perform this it's a real treat.
Bravo! Well said! I struggled for 10 minutes before commenting to find the right words to do this video justice and eventually just spoke from my heart. You've nailed it spot on! Brilliant comment! Take care and stay healthy. (Smile)
Well thank you very much. You made a pretty good response yourself. I hope you healed well from your hospital visit. This guy's lovely playing would cure many ills. Stay good.
Just wonderful. Having learned all of these movements many years ago, I am so delighted to hear how it can sound when played by a master! So uplifting and inspirational.
I first played BWV 997 in 1984 as a student at Atheneum Music school Athens Greece. Your playing is excellent and the ornaments also. I might take it up again, although these days i don't play anymore unfortunately for a variety of reasons. Keep it up, you are fantastic!!
Incredibly well done music... AND you chose a church with the right acoustics, as well as a spot where it is lit with beautiful natural light. J.S. himself would be extremely pleased with you... 11 stars out of 10.
Drew, this is a beautifully expressed, truly flawless performance. I played classical guitar for 30 years. I could play for another hundred and not be able to play with this level of mastery. Loved every moment of it. ❤
I was waiting for this: I had once, almost twenty years ago, heard the opening notes to this prelude.. ..only knowing that it was Bach.. I fell in love with it.. ..but never knowing the title of the piece... waiting ever so patiently for the day that I hear these notes again.. And here they are! ..right there in my YT Recommendations.. Now, I have since learnt this on the guitar. Thank you.. for bringing light of the best of what the best language of Life has to offer.

Not necessarily. Evil people will not respond to it. Nor change.
When I want J.S. Bach on guitar this is the player I choose first and most often . Astounding...
still Christopher Parkening for me, but this is an excellent performance
Tilman Hoppstock is great Bach player.
I agree, but David Russel is a monster baroque player and Jason Vieau also has a wonderful sound and performance.
