The theme of this Rondo bears a striking resemblance to Beethoven's famous "Pathetique" Sonata, Op. 13 no. 8. Given that this piece was published in the year of Beethoven's death (1827), perhaps we can call it a "tribute". However, the dedication is to Aguado's contemporary, François de Fossa.
Recorded March 6th, 2017 in Toronto.

Hey, Jack. I started with a country background and played that way for years, until a friend bought Bouree in Em tabs for me. I've been playing classical for 20 yrs now. We both can now testify to the beauty of classical 👍

Jack, you did not miss the point at all. You played a different genre and saw another. Keep exploring and keep pushing. As a classical guitarist I am trying to cross the other chasm of playing by ear, improving solos, etc., Keep exploring and keep pushing.

I learned this many years ago and have listened to a large number of renditions by excellent performers. I have not heard a better one than this. Flawless and beautifully played. It has given me the nudge to go back to it.

Muy buena interpretación en matices y expresividad. Arrastres, vibratos y cadencias muy propias de Aguado. Muy trabajados los arpegios rápidos y escalas. Es la mejor interpretación del Rondo de Aguado que he oido. Soy guitarrista.

Indeed good technique, but the beauty of his playing lies in the slower parts. So, why rushing through, when you lose musicality in the piece. More in phrasing and changing of dynamics...

The skill, precision and flawlessness are awe inspiring. Still refer Breams version but man this guys playing is simple the cleanest around. He is one of the greatest players I've ever seen
It could just be the sound equipment, but you have one of the best tones Ive ever heard. Hardly any nail sound even when going pontecello.
Thank you so much! Nail noise is definitely a pet peeve of mine so I try to minimize it. Short nails really helps too.

I think this is an exceptional performance: very assured, so that the elegance of Aguado's early romantic style isn't subsumed to the considerable virtuosity needed to play this difficult piece. The sound production is clean, nuanced and well phrased. I think it compares favorably to Bream's version on his DVD "Guitarra"

The only other guitarist who play this Rondo as brilliantly as this is Julian Bream. Drew and Julian are of the same top level in my opinion. I am glad the chain of succession of exceptional guitarist has not been broken. These days there are more and more outstanding classical guitarists appearing from all over the world. Andre Segovia would be very happy to see his dream comes true had he still been alive.
I don’t want to second guess the amount of preparation required to play this piece as he did. But a performance of this caliber can only come from a very gifted musician. I could prepare all day and everyday and not get close. Bravo!

A great perfomance Drew.I listen to this piece of music everytime i can. Li jie and one of the best clasical guitar player is Julian bream he did it very well with this Agusdo's Rondo. I had it for my 6th guitar exam in 1983 .
Julian Bream plays this amazingly well....on a level of his own.
Thats crazy having it for an exam. Personally I think these pieces are beyond examination level.

From observation, this whole performance, from the tempo to dynamics and even to the overall feel, comes really close to that of julian bream, who imo has the best version of this piece. Its so nearly a 1-1 copy, and hats of to you for playing with the style and feeling of one of the greatest classical guitarists ever, but with your own personal touch. Very well done. Only thing lacking? Bream's insanely comical and intense facial expressions😂😂

Why this piece is not more widely known in classical guitar circles has always baffled me. We all know the tired workhorses, so why ignore this and other great pieces from the classical (or romantic for that matter) eras. BTW, best performance I have ever heard or seen. Peace to all...
