Man when the Ark first came out I made several taming boats and through the years I never thought I would have to make another, it’s fun being primitive again for a change. We all got comfy using other endgame methods to tame easier but this to me is like relearning the basics. Thank you for the video.
Yeah I think the beginning ark and trying to figure out traps and such make it really fun!
change gate settings to 'always open inside'!

@@Fynixmech and set some code on both doors, and put a code panel inside... then you can close the door safely

😃 I noticed that one could add ramps to the back of the trap angling down over the habitat to lead large+ creatures into the trap from behind. It would cover the entrance with an overhanging ramp, but would also keep anything from following you from behind up to the door opening if you had to run back inside to safety for any reason. I really like this trap and am going to play around with adding to it after I your idea built first. Thanks for the idea video. Watching for more to come.
You could build something like you were saying in ASE but doing a ramp like that the dinos don't fall in anymore. I tried a lot of testing before trying this out and yeah the new dino ai doesn't let them do that. I have used a build similar to what you're talking about and it is a good one too. I appreciate you watching! 😁

What’s the reason for using 2 dinosaur gates at the front? Doesn’t the trap work if you swap them for doorframe walls?
It's just less structures on the boat. Depending on the server you're playing on you may be able to use walls all the way up but it'll count as more structures on the boat.
And what if that giant annoying sea creature knocks your raft over? Will it still break? I've tried so many times crossing the river without that big idiot bumping me off my raft zzz 🙄 but with no built base on it tho, just a normal raft.
Stick close to the shore. Either that or use honey.
I built and it is fine for taming, but i was trying to transfer a triceratops up to a new base and couldn't get it on board, wouldn't go up the ramp. Would go up the same ramp in an on land building but not the raft. Is this a thing or have I built something wrong?
If you're just trying to have it follow you, it might be the ai pathing. It's trying to go around. If it gets stuck at the ramp it might be how the ramp is snapped on.

@@Fynixmech Devastated! totally built your trap, went up the coast and parked it near bigger dino spawns, had everything ready and then things stopped working, blamed my settings so reset them but still problem, discovered my mouse had probs so plugged in another one, reset my settings to where I had them, logged in and everything was normal..everything...except my boat!! All I had was a little raft with my bird sitting on it looking quite forlorn. All my mats, all my items inside, all gone. Even a little temporary hut I built was still there on beach but no taming boat. ....sigh. Can't work this one out. Guess I have to start all over again.😵💫😢
Geez, seriously I am not a crazy old lady even if my husband is sitting nearby laughing his head off at me. I flew back to my raft, he saw it, i saw it and landed on beach nearby, turned around to see if there was a box or something full of my mats nearby and bingo!... there it was...the big boat back to normal. WTF!! This game is bonkers! 😜
Oh no! Yeah this game is very weird right now heh. I hope they continue to optimize it so I have hope it'll just get better haha. I recently thought I lost my whole playthrough so far and would have to start over so I know the pain. 😅

Ah ... I used to play on console for years. I enjoyed it since most of my friends were on there.
@@Fynixmech I have ps4 and I still don't know if it's releasing on it or not, or if it can even handle the game
@typoplays I hope they optimize it better. Consoles stuff is a little more strict so that's why it keeps getting pushed back.
great Guide, but didnt work for me :/ own Nitrado server and Theris for example cant hop onboard. they will not walk up the ramp
I wish i had read comments earlier..I built this boat and tried to lure a theri onboard..he was not interested in walking up the ramp instead wailing on the walls of the base. Had to pull all the gateways off and trap him oldschool
There's 2 snap points and you have to make sure you get the lower one... as well as make sure there's enough space to walk back. If the boat is smaller than it won't walk into the trap.
Does anyone else tame teleport when they are finished taming?

I use to use ramps on the front of my raft with door frames instead of gates but that was the old ark not the new one
How do i stop my dinos from being pushed through the walls and out of the raft when i pass a rock in the water etc?
You can't. They never fixed this. You just have to try and avoid rocks.
@@Fynixmech aw that sucks, I guess I could try out the dinos on the top floor they might clear most of the rocks
That could help! I did something similar building a platform up one high. It works, but you gotta still work around the rocks.
Can you tame argentavis with this ??
If you put a ceiling on it, but their ai has changed for ASA and makes it a bit more difficult. If it's ASE then no problem. You'd have to build a separate argy specific trap to work in ASA. There's a few builds on youtube, but captain fatdog's will work if you built it on the ceiling.
@@Fynixmech lol I have Asa and the argys are just as stupid as ase 😂 but I can't build structures on land too many other structures
I placed down 2 dino gates a quarter and 3 quarters the way down, the same direction as the doors he opened to lure in. Argy couldnt get out

No you'd have to set it up a little different for that.
I built a trap similar to this on land but apparently, even though Hyaenodons and Sabertooths don't fit through doorways, Raptors do! Super annoying.
Yeah its weird. Raptors used to only fit if you double stacked the doors, but I could see this happening too. The hit boxes are so strange.
@@Fynixmech I just found that now! if you put an HORIZONTAL pillar at the bottom of a simple doorframe AND one on the top, the human can cross through the doorframe but the raptor, no! (at least in SP)
@dani2mars128 that's a pretty cool find! It's so weird what they decided to keep and not in this game haha .
@@Fynixmech It only works when there is no door, so not in the bases, but in the trap, yes! (continue your good work!)

today I learned that if you tranq the animal in a pen like this you have to tame them in that area because I first brought a theriz back to my base to tame and when it was complete he teleported back to where I tranq'ed him, at first I thought it was a glitch and went and picked him back up but later that night I grabbed a daedon and brought him back and once the tame was complete he also teleported 7000 feet back to where I trapped him lol
That's so weird! Usually you can bring them along with you. I think they'd been patching a loy of things, especially with console players into the mix.

No...Rex can't fit through normal dino gates.

Not this specific one because gates aren't allowed on rafts. If you can change the code in the files then yes this is possible.

How are people getting the foundation to snap in the middle of the pillar it won't let me
It seems for console you have to sink the foundation like the first method I show.
@@Fynixmech what is the first method you showed? Forward on the dpad or either of the analog sticks does nothing to change the elevation.
@Fynixmech Thanks after watching some other videos and your videos, I couldn't get it to snap like in your videos. So I started looking through comments if anyone had any issues with this, and I found this comment and reply. So, thanks 😊. PS5 here, and it was getting frustrating not getting it to work.
I would assume it'd be the right stick, but I haven't played ark on console in years. From what I understand they also changed some controls around from ase.
Yeah, I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you. If I had a PS5 and ASA I'd try to figure it out. Sadly, the finances are tight right now for me to be able to afford one. I'm guessing they made this change to consult because of exploits or possibly the system not being able to handle it. It is possible it'll be introduced later, but that's only my thoughts.
can the gateway fit Rex, Spino, Mammoth?
No none of those creatures can fit through regular dino gate.

No this wouldn't work on ASE. My 100 days taming pen would though which I have a video for.

If you just place them on the raft then yeah thats probably possible. If it doesn't detect enough underneath If it then it won't work.
Would love to see a video on how to make a water dino taming raft updated for ASA as no one else has a video on how to make one
That's a tough one since most creatures wouldn't be able to fit in there. You'd be able to trap mantis and anglerfish. That's about it though. Plus if you were out in the water more tou have to worry about Leeds, which is also tough.

It should...I built this on a dedicated server, but the building settings match official. As long as they don't change anything

Is anyone else finding they are only able to add two gateways?
You should be able to add 2. They are known to change the game though so this may have changed if you're having a problem. What is the message saying?
I added two side gates first then after adding one back gate the final one didnt fit so I flipped it and it fits just fine and it all looks normal no gaps anywhere.
so weird, but glad it worked out. I didn't have any problems with gate placement initally but it's definitely possible with ark building mechanics 😅@@notaclu6911
Seems wild dinos no longer follow you up ramps. The devs .ade them smarter I guess.

It doesn't seem to work the same on console. You can eyeball it and sink the foundation.

Are you scared of the leed fish smashing the boat.. how do u avoid that fish while in the boat
Not really I usually sail pretty close to the shore. Its only a problem if you're just hanging out in the middle of the water.

Works on single player and dedicated. Also console seems to have different rules too which I wouldn't know. Works on PC but they constantly update the game.

But what about New AI on Dinos ?
This will work if you do it the way I did it in the video. Some people suggested ramps, but the new ai makes it so the dinos will go around. Currently, this design will work as long as no changes are made to the dinos' ai.
Will it work on a mammoth or a rex?
No since they don't fit through the dino gate, but I'm currently working out a build for one 😉
Could just put a bear trap down in it, remove dino gate, kite in and then place dino gate behind once in :)
Bear trap can't be placed on raft..I tried already 😅

It should but if that doesn't you can put it on the side or sink it manually which I show.
