@@toastbloke agreed.. I used to be able to build pillars below the boat.. then snap a hatch frame to them, delete the pillars and the hatch frame would just float there like it was connected. Great place to put some turrets :) But alas, now when you delete the pillar, it all goes away... that, and, well.. no hatchframes anymore since its an all in one piece with the door.

This is an excellent video. Thank you! Just a note: when trying to get the height of the pillar correct, it was much easier for me to reduce the sensitivity of my mouse to it's lowest setting. Then I would pull back until the rotation circle snapped below the raft and then very carefully moved my mouse forward, clicking the moment the blue circle snapped above the raft. I had missed the location multiple times while trying to use the keyboard. Just an option. Cheers!

Still works. Great tip on the arrows being close to boat. I used mouse wheel to move it up and down. If you do not get it low enough it won't be drivable. Pick em up and try again. Its drivable once you get the right height.

I've been trying... but it's not looking possible. Had a few interesting things crop up, but foundations seem set to only place on a platform or ground, not to other structures, even when you think they should!
I'd just build over the top with walls and a ceiling, then it can't get C4'd from above or below. I don't play PvP on ASA though, but if I did, I'd not plan on living on a raft at all with all the exploits! Just use it for a bit of fun!
You can get a 3x3 the old way, but the placement is a little different. It puts the foundations too high now though to drive the raft through them. That's why I had to come up with this. I'm just glad we can still get the old effect!
The reason they patched it is that prior, if you build on the raft (rather then on structures of the raft), essentially there was no structure checks: as long as your reticle was on the raft rather then a structure (and clipping disabled), the game would allow it. By placing your foundations "under" the raft you'd be able to use this trick... My original boat build was essentially all utility structures clipped into one another surrounded by walls :p
That makes complete sense! I figured it was getting confused between the two surfaces with the random red-boxing and having to re-render things to put it right, but that explains the clipping. It was almost if things dropped off the side of the raft at points and through the walls. I didn't try on the raft on it's own to realise this! Nice spot!
PLEASE NOTE : This works when building near to the shore in shallow water - trying to do the same thing in deeper water and the snap of the foundation does not work correctly
The only disadvantage I encounter is that you cannot enter the raft from below the water since there're foundations that are blocking the raft from below and you need to put ramps or ladders to climb it, but I find it more realistic.
I get you completely. It's nice to be able to get out of the water quickly! I always value the added protection of the raft over the underwater access though. In the last game I had a method of getting both benefits, but it doesn't seem possible in this game, which is a shame!
Click 'fire' once to lock the position and then look up and down before clicking it again to place. This will only work when free placing the pillar though, so on the ground and platforms, otherwise it will just snap to another structure at a set position. Let me know if that helps!
You mind dropping your graphics settings and console commands (if you run any)? I play with a 5800x3D and a 4090 (in 4k) but my game still looks rly blurry, though now I can at least run it consistent 60 fps.
I play 1440p, set the game to default graphics, then change all numbers for fluid etc. to 0.5 and cross my fingers. Occasionally, I'll tweak view distance if extra frames are needed. Games been looking and performing worse and worse for me with each passing update though, so mine doesn't even look this nice anymore! 🫣
i managed to get a perfect line up useing the hole in the front of the raft with the sail removed. you want the piller just barely clipping through the wooden bar going across the deck
On Ascended? That's very strange. They look the same on mine with ever low graphics. Wonder what that might be! Great stuff in regards to your other comment too! As long as you've got the method to work, that's all that matters! Spot on!
Haven't tried in a while, but not last time I checked. You know how it is with WC. Obviously, the most important things to patch are the helpful tricks... not the actual broken things in the game... like cheaters or the lights 🫠
DUDE CLUTCH, really goood job! I know this is 7 months old, we delayed playing ASA until bugs were under control. Another thing that I cant figure out is adding doors to my walls when extended 3 ceiling tiles back from rudder foundation row? I can put walls/door frames up but no doors? Any ideas there? Ive tried ASR and placing foundations as far back as possible. Oh and why don't the pitfall traps work on some dinos anymore? Theri, trike etc. Thanks dude, great content.

If I ever crack them, I’ll be sure to share! With traps, the dinos have new pathfinding mechanics and ‘AI.’ I’m finding interesting things about how it works all the time, but I’ve got a trap series on my channel where I’ve designed traps that work despite the changes. Damn, you did it again! How are you adjusting the height of the pillar? OK, I think I got it figured. Before I click to set the pillar, I click once and move the pillar up, or down by moving the mouse forward, or backward. Now that the pillar is figured, I cannot set the foundations as low as you did. The pillar only goes so low and the ceiling part then dictates how low, or high the foundations are placed. I will play with the quarter wall a bit more. Wow, not sure why it worked this time, but it did.
Sorry for the late reply! I've had a mad few days! I'm glad you've got it figured out, but just to clarify, you raise/lower the pillar by looking up and down once you have clicked once to place. With the pillar placement, there are very narrow margins and you need to do it near the shore to get the pillar to drop below the raft, so you can raise the blue rotation icon to the perfect height. Just above the raft! Hope this helps!
Was trying this as of last night. on offical small tribes. The foundation would only snap to the top of the quarter wall and not the bottom not allowing me to sink them. I thought i was following the process to the T. Any ideas?
It doesn't put you in the centre, it just lines you up with the boat to make things a little easier. You don't even have to do that step thanks to full alignment mode. When you dismount it will put you on the join where the mark you need is to help find it, though. Hope this helps!
You click once to lock it in position and then make your character look up and down to adjust the height. Should be the right joystick! Let me know if that helps!
@@toastbloke ya, i used the motor boat. But if you want all 9 foundations on it. You can't use the same spot in your vid. You have to adjust the pillar on the next square indent of the motoroat and place the pillar half on it.
@rickrollrizal When I was making the motorboat version, it was impossible to fully cover it due to the shape of the model being uneven. Its just a matter of fiddling around to get it covered how you prefer I guess. I spend way too long on that kind of thing 😂
I tired it like 10 times and I got everything but the height perfect No matter what I try it is just high enough that I can’t select the raft thru the floor, I don’t want to have to do a trap door but I got to frustrated I’m on ps5 but using mouse/Key
There is very little margin for error. It's got to be at the lowest possible point on top and can only be done near the shore. I use my up and down arrow keys on my keyboard and just tap them. It make movements in increments, so it's easier that way. I hope that helps!
The sail doesn’t take any damage as far as I’m aware. It’s just a visual if you choose to have it up. The top isn’t protected by the foundations as they sit just below it, but build walls and a roof over them and it’s protected by those structures 😎
Usually that means the pillar is too low, or maybe you’re too close to shore and a rock is getting in the way. Have another go and let me know if any of that helps.
All foundations work, yeah. They look fine too, just wouldn't usually build them on a raft or motorboat. They need to introduce something stronger. Would love an actual Tek tier raft or something, if they ever fix the exploits!

And yes, I only ever make stone or metal in PvP, but for examples and PvE builds, it's nice to use different materials sometimes. I'll see what I can do! 🙌

On console, it's a lot harder to get the perfect height due to using a controller, so if you've got the sweet spot, well done! I'm glad you've got it working!

Just jumped on to test and it still works, icon and all, exactly like in the video. You couldn't rotate pillars on the old game, but it's a feature of Ascended. What is happening when you set the pillar position?
Me too! I spent a while trying to figure out how to recreate it early doors and moved on to other things on my list, 'cause it doesn't seem possible. Foundations need to snap into something now it seems! Maybe I'll get back around to trying to figure it out someday!
I can imagine the placement is hard with a control pad for sure. Might take more time to figure out that it's worth. The main thing is, your raft is up and running! 😎

I'll delete the comment in a bit. I was hoping to cover the raft in metal foundations so a leeds couldn't destroy the raft, but it was still 2 shot when I found one.

Finally gave up in disgust apart from the game crashing every so often I discovered after building my raft when I re-started the game parts of the raft were missing At first I thought it mite be because it was a mod raft so I went back to the original raft but it still kept on happening after that I just uninstalled the game and went back to Evolved instead untill they fix the bugs in Ascended
The game has a lot of problems that need addressing for sure. With the crashes, do you have DLSS on? Mine crashed all the time until I turned that off and it's worked for others since. With the raft structures, that is just a bug, unfortunately. The game hides them all, but if you mount and then dismount your raft it all comes back. Really strange! Enjoy ASE in the meantime, though. I hope they move quickly on fixing this instead of DLC!
@@toastbloke Having the same issue. I have used this before without issue, but now it does not. Does not allow you to drive. Tried both regular & ASR Stone foundations. Are there any specific server settings that need to be set?
Once you click fire, which I believe is RT, once, use you right joystick to look up to raise it and down to lower it. Just be careful not to look left or right as it will rotate the pillar.

First time you get C4'd that raft health is toast. You should place one low and try to get the other foundations above the raft.
I'd just build over the top with walls and a ceiling, then it can't get C4'd from above or below. I don't play PvP on ASA though, but if I did, I'd not plan on living on a raft at all with all the exploits! Just use it for a bit of fun!

I did try the old way with a fence foundation and pillar BUT I could only lay doen 4 foundations and couldn't extend the raft anymore

How do you get you camera to do that? My doesn’t snap to the middle when I jump on my raft

playing on pc, the the planks on my raft dont have the same markings sadly even with textures maxed

I do everything up to putting quarter wall down. But it does not snap on button on the wall. It keeps snapping against the ceiling or the pillar.

Nvm, I was using the sloped wall, not the quarter. It works now.

I couldn’t find a way, sadly. I need to try again at some point, but I spent ages on it, and it wasn’t looking possible with the new structures!

Yes! It can be trickier to not rotate due to controller, but this currently works on all platforms. 🫡

As in you can't place any structures after a period of time, or are you hitting the games structure limit?

Could you be using the quarter ceiling by mistake? There’s both a quarter wall and ceiling piece in the game.

Works on ps5 official as of 14 dec must of been in one of the recent updates because ive been trying since this video came out lol
On console, it's a lot harder to get the perfect height due to using a controller, so if you've got the sweet spot, well done! I'm glad you've got it working!
@toastbloke yeah it's been very strange we had weird collision issues also and the snap points were really weird works amazing now though and it looks best In metal 👍
I have the rockwell raft in my inventory but cant place it in game. Any ideas?

Have you installed mods? I wonder if that's a mod as there's only a raft and motorboat in the base game as far as I'm aware. @@seanmillette4323

Just jumped on to test and it still works, icon and all, exactly like in the video. You couldn't rotate pillars on the old game, but it's a feature of Ascended. What is happening when you set the pillar position?

Me too! I spent a while trying to figure out how to recreate it early doors and moved on to other things on my list, 'cause it doesn't seem possible. Foundations need to snap into something now it seems! Maybe I'll get back around to trying to figure it out someday!

Having too much trouble on console. I just leave the middle empty and hold Y on Xbox to select drive the raft. A lil ugly but it’s inside so idc.
I can imagine the placement is hard with a control pad for sure. Might take more time to figure out that it's worth. The main thing is, your raft is up and running! 😎
@ yeah there was a easy way kinda using your method only with columns but it’s been so long i forgot how to do it.

@@toastbloke This is crazy, I made a raft and couldn't even get the pillar to turn green. Even made a video. Your response inspired me to try again and no issues the second go around. I'll delete the comment in a bit. I was hoping to cover the raft in metal foundations so a leeds couldn't destroy the raft, but it was still 2 shot when I found one.
@CantankerousOB Don’t worry, it’s not a problem. I’m happy to help when I can. I’d rather know if there is an issue so it can be fixed and comments help push the video out to more people too. ASA is so broken at the moment that weird things are happening all the time! Hard to know if it’s a glitch, patch or error. Glad it’s working now 🔥

Finally gave up in disgust apart from the game crashing every so often I discovered after building my raft when I re-started the game parts of the raft were missing At first I thought it mite be because it was a mod raft so I went back to the original raft but it still kept on happening after that I just uninstalled the game and went back to Evolved instead untill they fix the bugs in Ascended
The game has a lot of problems that need addressing for sure. With the crashes, do you have DLSS on? Mine crashed all the time until I turned that off and it's worked for others since. With the raft structures, that is just a bug, unfortunately. The game hides them all, but if you mount and then dismount your raft it all comes back. Really strange! Enjoy ASE in the meantime, though. I hope they move quickly on fixing this instead of DLC!
I think I'll just wait untill they fix the bugs and play Evolved instead

@@toastbloke Having the same issue. I have used this before without issue, but now it does not. Does not allow you to drive. Tried both regular & ASR Stone foundations. Are there any specific server settings that need to be set?
Disregard - in case anyone sees this, use the new method of watching for the blue circle to move. It's MUCH more effective for getting it right.
How do you lower the pillar on Xbox?
Once you click fire, which I believe is RT, once, use you right joystick to look up to raise it and down to lower it. Just be careful not to look left or right as it will rotate the pillar.
