  • This kit from Comm Gear Supply is a GREAT solution to use your two way radio with your hearing protection headset!
    I was mistaken in saying they had non-braded kits. You want the braided kit anyways!
    Comm Gear Supply changed their program that gives credit, so if you so choose to want to help out, please use one of the links to their site before ordering so I get credit. It used to work when just using my coupon code. Either way, get your COMM's up!

    This is a good ass video! I have Peltor comtac III's but the stock PTT's arent amplified, and civilian radios dont have that much broadcast power by comparison to mil radios. This makes my voice SUPER quiet when using the peltors boom mic unless I have it literally touching my lips at all times. Turns out this website you mentioned makes amplified PTT's. Now I just have to find one that will work.

    Hey thanks for another great video.
    What are your thoughts on the pros and cons for this setup compared to a handheld shoulder mic and a standard headphone jack up to the Howard leights?
    Just cable management and mic quality? Another consideration for an alternative setup is a shoulder mic and a surefire in ear security style setup that can run either by itself or under over ears.. Thanks!

    • @CallMeColtLLC

      The only thing I don't like with the Disco32 is how easy it is the hot mic with their PTT. The little protector they sell I thought was way to cheaply made. A lot of people are happy with them though!

    Hey Colt! I love this series about civilian comms. This got me wondering, does this system offer any advantage compared to connecting the sky eye tactical speaker mic to a non-comm headset via a 3.5mm aux cable? It seems like both options would accomplish the same goal. Although this system is a little smaller, it seems more complicated and more expensive.

    • @CallMeColtLLC
      @CallMeColtLLC  3 года назад +4

      I think both solutions are good but this on is purpose built. Cable management & PTT placement will be much better with this kit. The SkyEye speaker mic is much more bulky but is cheaper. Ultimately, I'd say is personal preference and cost benefit.

    Do you hear sound in one earphone or both when you use it with a radio?

    • @CallMeColtLLC
      @CallMeColtLLC  Год назад +1

      This all depends on the hearing protection headset used. The adapter is outputting stereo 3.5mm as I show it in the video, unless you get a different setup. If the headset you are using shares the input audio to both ears, yes. The exact setup in the video does. If it shares it to only one side, than no. It is all dependent on the headset in the end. I'm sorry this is not an exact answer, but due to the huge variation, I can't give an exact.

      UV5R has a very poor interface for external connections. I had nothing but problems with them and it is why I do not use or recommend that radio at all if you plan to attach anything to it. Watch some of the other videos I have made on Baofeng multipin radios and hopefully you'll be convinced to switch. More than likely, you are just getting a poor connection. It's just a headphone jack after all and really doesn't hold up well to abuse.
