They make arc rail adapters specifically for Howard leigh ear pro. You just pop off the existing arms and push on the rail adapters. No need to cut any wires.
you would still have to cut apart the leather band to get the wire free. So you are destroying that part either way. I dont see why you would buy the “adapters” when you can slide the metal wire in the existing 3m piece. Seems like spending more on an unnecessary part. Thanks for watching 😀

Solid video, but I would like to point out that you DO NOT HAVE TO DREMEL (not yelling, just drawing attention. lol) the metal wire on the Howard Leights. The plastic tab that the metal wire slips into are clipped onto the ear pro with a simple plastic locking tab. You can use a flathead screwdriver (or simple makeshift prying tool of your choice) and pry up gently behind the black plastic near where it clicks into the OD green tab on the ear pro. It doesn't take a ton of effort, and it pops off and then you can rotate the black plastic piece to remove the metal wire, and then attach the 3M piece and click it right back onto the ear pro. For the audio wire, short of disassembling the actual ear pro, you do need to cut the head strap "leather" as you show in the video, however, and that definitely is the better way to go from what I can see. Hey man, two questions for you that I can’t seem to find the answers to. 1. Does the peltor adapter fit Axil Trckrs? 2. How do you have your light mounted around the adapter on your helmet with out it getting in the way?
Those Axil look too thick/big to use with a helmet. I could be wrong though. I honestly dont know if the peltor adapters would fit them though. I made my own velcro pic rail helmet attachment point initially. Ive since upgraded to an ECHO arms helmet pic rail section, that velcros on.
gel ear cups help, but if you have a strong/boney jaw bone, you may not get a good seal. For me, they were too low on my head when mounted on my helmet. But im glad to see that a company made an adaptor. it looks like it would be a good option for someone who is using comms with the howards leights
Hey do you know if any ear protection that makes it so you can not only hear sounds, but hear what direction the sound is coming from. Vs omnidirectional how most ear protection you find nowadays like Razors and such for hunting. Thanks!
I used a small armorers hammer with a nylon head. I just tapped it over. The small locking tab will pop up and down without damage. So force it, but gently 👍
yes. I ended up putting the Peltor Sport RangeGuard ear pro on my helmet and they fit way better than the howard leights 👍 the HL sat too low and were too big to push up higher. The peltors feel like they were made for helmet use. They also block most radio “squealing” when transmitting, which is very nice.
@@KalashKrusador kind of, but the wiring is in a separate “cloth” sleeve thats attached to the headband. So you can actually put the Peltors back together if you wanted to (in theory). The peltors ear cups also detach differently/easier. I dont believe you have to cut the metal wires 👍
It should, but the walkers are bigger. You may not be able to get them high enough, depending on if you have a hi cut helmet or a maritime cut helmet (with more ear pro space). But they will fit on the Peltor Arc Rail Adapters in the same way as the Howard Leights and Peltor Rangeguards.
Ive heard that the wire size is the same. So in theory the peltor adapters will fit the Walker Razor. But since the Walkers are larger, I dont know if they would fit on the helmet itself (it might interfere with the helmet). If you had the higher cut maritime helmet, it probably would, but Im not sure with the standard high cut. I personally would just get a set of howard leights that you can chop up and keep the razors for regular use.
I got the TNVC brand and just realized that they don’t actually “pop” away from your head they only swivel. And they were $70. And they always pop out of the actual arc rail when I try and put the helmet on 😡
Unity Tactical makes some that are always tight. They are a spring steel wire, I think. The only issue people have with the 3m Peltor Adaptors is they can pop away from your head when jumping out of planes. You should see if you can return yours, because thats a bad design if they wont stay tight to the head.
@@poortac5568 what I have are the unity mark ones, is what I should have said in my OP. They do stay tight to my head, they don’t however pop away from my head which makes it easy to take helmet on and off if that makes sense. I also used to have an L/XL helmet and recently just got a M/L and it fits much better. And the headphones seem to not pop off of the arc rail so far
@@themilkdud8515 that makes sense. I wonder if they make different sizes for different helmets? Thats why I went with the 3M over the unity. I was worried they wouldnt be tight enough on my skinny face 😂
@@Diinoh Thats normal, you can add some hot glue, electrical tape, or anything to the adapter, to add girth 👍 I didnt need to, but in theory, it should work
Put mine on my helmet. I cant get it to snap down because my head is too wide. But my head is too skinny for the protection to work all the way out. If that makes sense. Any thoughts?
Sounds like your helmet might be too small? If you dont want to buy a new helmet, you might have to get a constant tension helmet adapter instead of the snap Peltor one. HHV makes one, but I dont know if they make an ARC rail version or just the M-Lok version.
found it - www.hardheadveterans.com/products/rail-adapter-kit-rak-fits-arc-peltor-3m-and-other-helmet-headsets its $50, but this is the only solution I can think of that would be a (hopefully) easy fix.
you can just pull them out, but you risk breaking the plastic parts. The metal wires look like a key on the ends, they have to be twisted to come out the correct way.
I have with a set of Peltor Range guards, but I was afraid of breaking the plastic tabs on the howard leights. The Howard Leights tabs are more difficult to remove than most other ear pro ive tried this on. If you break that plastic, you may as well trash the ear pro.
Question: BUBBA: why didn’t you just take off the Blk plastic clips off the Howard’s and not cut anything up?? Once you would have done that you do the same thing but you would still have old headset to use
I was afraid the plastic would snap, making them unusable on a helmet or on the headband. The plastic feels brittle, so I didnt want to mess with it. That is what I did when I did the same things with Peltor Rangeguards ear pro. They are a lot easier to remove, without risk of snapping the plastic.
Everyone should be aware that HHV now uses an M-Loc rail. In order to use the Peltor clips you'll need an adapter to convert them from the ARC mounting base.
You know you don't have to cut the metal part right? With a little strength you can pop off the plastic adapter that goes from the metal arm to the ear pro ear cup. Then just rotate the plastic to remove from the metal arm.
@@poortac5568 If you get a pair of needle nose you can pinch the snap tabs to remove the bracket then you can easily slide off the plastic part the metal bar goes into. I just don't understand that logic of cutting the metal headband to prevent breaking the headset 🙃 I just wonder how many people here destroyed their ear pro from watching this 😥
Also you mounted them backwards. The mic Jack port is flipped towards the rear. It needs to be facing forward so you need to flip the cups to the other side but I’m sure you know that by now
pop the black plastic arms off of the headset, then you can remove them from the wire, no cutting, then look where the flat spot is on the wire and make a similar flat spot on the new wire, put the black plastic ends on the new wire and now they won't fall off and you won't get stabbed in the head with the wires when you try and take your helmet off. you are welcome.
its not a screw, its a plastic tension piece. you can pop the piece off of it, but i tend to be over cautious and went the route where I knew I wouldnt snap off the plastic. Making it unusable.
you can, but there is a risk of cracking or messing up the plastic tabs, which make the entire headset unusable. Since you cant really reuse the metal wire, I cut it instead.
Wtf ? Why did you cut the wire Pop the mount off the ear cup and them rotate to remove plastic from wire. Now you can get a $15 cover for the headband and switch between helmet mount and headband. 3 years late but maybe it’ll save someone from the error
@@camopirate I didn’t want to risk breaking the plastic tab. I did do that with a set of peltors though, and put the Howard Leights on the Peltor headband.

I found an accessory that allows you to use the AMP attachment with other headsets. It’s called the AXL RAC.
@@perceptivestrategics3657 that is interesting. I have switched over from the howard leights to the Peltor Rangeguards. They block out radio static/interference when transmitting.
Thanks!
The howard leights allow you to hear where sounds are coming from
The notch on the mount gets locked into place really tight how do I lift the piece to slide mount.
I used a flathead screwdriver.
How do you keep the ear cups from sliding all the way out of the clips once it's all done? Left side is real loose and sometimes comes off completely.
Mine were tight enough to stay on. You could coat the metal wire with hot glue or something else to add thickness to the wire.
@@poortac5568 thanks, I'll give that a shot
@@nooncedid you ever give the glue a try? Having the same issue they just want to fall out.
@@agunner6262 haven't yet. Just been careful not to bring them all the way out but it's kind of annoying.

4:52 the meme gets me
I like to think it doesnt describe me but, deep down, I know it does 😂
Do you have to depress the tab on the headset mount or do you just force it past the notches to where you want it?
I used a small armorers hammer with a nylon head. I just tapped it over. The small locking tab will pop up and down without damage. So force it, but gently 👍
Do you think this works for Walker's Razor?
Ive heard people say they fit on the peltor arc rail adapter, but they are much bigger and will probably be too low on your face when attached.
Thanks! Really helpful video!
no prob, thanks for watching 😁
Love the soyjacks, good video
thanks 😀
Do you have any issues with the impact sports sitting a little too low on the ears?
@@poortac5568 thank you! And you also had to cut up the padding on the peltor ones correct?
@@KalashKrusador kind of, but the wiring is in a separate “cloth” sleeve thats attached to the headband. So you can actually put the Peltors back together if you wanted to (in theory). The peltors ear cups also detach differently/easier. I dont believe you have to cut the metal wires 👍
Will this also work for the walker razor ear pro?
It should, but the walkers are bigger. You may not be able to get them high enough, depending on if you have a hi cut helmet or a maritime cut helmet (with more ear pro space). But they will fit on the Peltor Arc Rail Adapters in the same way as the Howard Leights and Peltor Rangeguards.
I just did this today and a cheapo short pair of Walmart bolt cutters will work faster and easier than a dremel 😉
true 👍
You actually don't need to cut anything but the fabric because you can just unclip them twist the black clip of then snap the clip back n the earmuffs
I didnt want to risk snapping the plastic
would this work for Walkers Razor? want to get a longfri and not have to but Howards since I already own the Razors
Yes it works exactly the same. I have walkers on my HHV
Great job, thank you!
anytime! thanks for watching 🇺🇸
Thank you so much!!!!
anytime! 😀
My Peltor adapters do not have an adjustable feature that snaps like you showed on them, and yes they are on brand, not knock offs. Any ideas?
@@tannerhoard8382 I think they make a tension only model, but Ive not used them.
Great content guys! Just subscribed..
Thanks 😀
I’ve done this today and my ear pro slide up and down the adapter for some reason how can I fix that ?
@@Diinoh Thats normal, you can add some hot glue, electrical tape, or anything to the adapter, to add girth 👍 I didnt need to, but in theory, it should work
Put mine on my helmet. I cant get it to snap down because my head is too wide. But my head is too skinny for the protection to work all the way out. If that makes sense. Any thoughts?
Sounds like your helmet might be too small? If you dont want to buy a new helmet, you might have to get a constant tension helmet adapter instead of the snap Peltor one. HHV makes one, but I dont know if they make an ARC rail version or just the M-Lok version.
found it - www.hardheadveterans.com/products/rail-adapter-kit-rak-fits-arc-peltor-3m-and-other-helmet-headsets
its $50, but this is the only solution I can think of that would be a (hopefully) easy fix.

If they come out by just pulling what’s the point of cutting
you can just pull them out, but you risk breaking the plastic parts. The metal wires look like a key on the ends, they have to be twisted to come out the correct way.
@@poortac5568 thank you for the clarification
i appreciate you
thanks 👍
i hope this works with my gloryfire muffs once im done cutting my pasgt into a fast helmet
thats a lot of modifying, good luck 😀
cutting your helmet compromises it.
Great video, looking at doing this, one question, do the arc adapters swivel up so the ear pro is out of the way? Thanks!
yes, they will swivel out of the way. thanks for watching 🇺🇸
Why didnt you just take off the wire sleeves on the side of the ear cups and remove the wires that way?
I have with a set of Peltor Range guards, but I was afraid of breaking the plastic tabs on the howard leights. The Howard Leights tabs are more difficult to remove than most other ear pro ive tried this on. If you break that plastic, you may as well trash the ear pro.
Good INFO
thanks 😀
Question: BUBBA: why didn’t you just take off the Blk plastic clips off the Howard’s and not cut anything up?? Once you would have done that you do the same thing but you would still have old headset to use
I was afraid the plastic would snap, making them unusable on a helmet or on the headband. The plastic feels brittle, so I didnt want to mess with it. That is what I did when I did the same things with Peltor Rangeguards ear pro. They are a lot easier to remove, without risk of snapping the plastic.
Unfortunate this isn't reversible cuz I really like these ear pro
correct, this is a permanent modification.
Link to that helmet?

Everyone should be aware that HHV now uses an M-Loc rail. In order to use the Peltor clips you'll need an adapter to convert them from the ARC mounting base.
I would just buy an ear adapter from HHV if I had one of their helmets. The Peltor mount already sticks out way to far imo.
You know you don't have to cut the metal part right? With a little strength you can pop off the plastic adapter that goes from the metal arm to the ear pro ear cup. Then just rotate the plastic to remove from the metal arm.
Also pro tip. Put the adapter on the helmet first before you put the ear cups on.
@@TreyMorgan-wn8dk I didnt want to risk breaking the plastic tabs 👍
@@poortac5568 If you get a pair of needle nose you can pinch the snap tabs to remove the bracket then you can easily slide off the plastic part the metal bar goes into. I just don't understand that logic of cutting the metal headband to prevent breaking the headset 🙃 I just wonder how many people here destroyed their ear pro from watching this 😥
@@TreyMorgan-wn8dk you still run the risk of breaking those brittle tabs. Id rather break the headband wires, that Ill never use again 🤷♂️
Also you mounted them backwards. The mic Jack port is flipped towards the rear. It needs to be facing forward so you need to flip the cups to the other side but I’m sure you know that by now
wrong, the mics face forward. the aux port should be in the rear. its all on their website. feel free to look.
You don’t need to cut the muffs off they pop off
true, but you can break the plastic that way. you have to destroy the headband anyway, so I played it safe.
pop the black plastic arms off of the headset, then you can remove them from the wire, no cutting, then look where the flat spot is on the wire and make a similar flat spot on the new wire, put the black plastic ends on the new wire and now they won't fall off and you won't get stabbed in the head with the wires when you try and take your helmet off. you are welcome.
yay now i donrt have to buy sordins to mount earpro to my arc rails
thx dude that really helps
you earned yourself a subscriber with that amazing info pal
@@evoklax 😎 no problem, thanks for the Sub 😀
@@poortac5568 no problemmmooooo
There's a screw on the side to remove them without cutting lol also locks them like they were
its not a screw, its a plastic tension piece. you can pop the piece off of it, but i tend to be over cautious and went the route where I knew I wouldnt snap off the plastic. Making it unusable.
how to mount video....oh, I did that off camera. ???
The mount only attaches one way, it slides into the dovetail 🤷♂️
Couldn’t you just pull the metal pieces out without cutting them off?
you can, but there is a risk of cracking or messing up the plastic tabs, which make the entire headset unusable. Since you cant really reuse the metal wire, I cut it instead.
Wtf ? Why did you cut the wire
Pop the mount off the ear cup and them rotate to remove plastic from wire.
I’d like to them on when you’re finished. Show me that pretty face!
You gotta purdy mouth 😂
You LITERALLY could have just pulled the cups off the wire without having to cut them with a Dremel lmao. I thought I was having a stroke trying to figure out why you had to cut them lmfao
You could, but you risk breaking the plastic tabs on the ear pro. Id rather sacrifice the metal band that risk breaking the actual ear pro.
