using the chopsticks as the weapon and then in the end as the utensil to feed himself is metaphor for criticizing capitalism but still having to participate in capitalism to survive. mhhh the nuance. he's so hot for that. Karl Marx would have loved him and streamed his album.

female vocal in SDL and life goes on is ADORA. she used to be one of bight's in-house producers. she now also has her own career as a singer. some of BTS' songs she's worked on are spring day, 134340, euphoria, epiphany, so what, etc. if you've reacted to suga's previous solo works, you'll also find her background vocal in moonlight, 28, people, interlude: set me free from his D-2 mixtape

Ryuichi Sakamoto, the artist featured on Snooze, was a Japanese composer who composed many beautiful pieces for movies and won awards like a grammy and an oscar for it. Unfortunately, he passed away three weeks ago after a battle with cancer. His most famous masterpiece is 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence', which is SUGA's favorite track of him and SUGA even posted a video playing it. He admires him deeply and has talked about how big of an influence he was to him:
"When I was young, my parents took me to see a re-run of Last Emperor (Sakamoto composed the OSTs for the movie). That was when I first experienced the feeling of being awed by music. I began composing music when I was twelve and I dreamed about my future by listening to many of your music and sampling them. There are many musicians who have inspired me but you are one of the people who have influenced me the most."
I think this is what makes Snooze and his feature on it even more meaningful. SUGA was comforting the younger idols/his juniors through the lyrics while the song features the very man who inspired him. The backtrack played by Sakamoto sounded so so beautiful.

I saw that snooze is specifically speaking to other idols and entertainers in the industry. He's talking to them as someone who has been in the industry for 10+ years and is giving them a comforting message full of his own advice that he wasn't able to get when he was starting out. It's especially emotional because a few days ago a member of the group astro, moonbin, committed suicide likely due to many of the issues that yoongi talks about in this song

And it’s meaningful for Woosung to be the feature on Snoozeaa am, as someone also born in 1993 (born less than two weeks before SUGA) who has been through a LOT in his career. I was disappointed that Michael skipped right past his feature every time he sang. He deserves better than that. He has a beautiful voice and he blends so well with SUGA.

I also think in a way it's a like message to himself as well or a reminder to take care of himself. Because when he performed 'Snooze' live during his last encore concert he said during the Weverse live that he got emotional both from being a senior now thinking about the younger artists, but also because of all his memories with the members over the last 10 years flashing through his mind. :(

Another one that actually also comments on the production is Joey “Lucky Boy” Nato. He’s a producer, rapper, so his comments/feedback are on the music production - what instruments and such. 26:03 he got into a car accident before 2013 when he was a trainee, he was working as a delivery boy and a car hit him which broke his shoulder but since he was scared if he told the company about it he would be cut from the debut group (bts) or delayed the debut date he trained with a broken shoulder and never treated it, it damaged his shoulder permanently which affected his dancing and if you see some bts concert clips you can see him grabbing his shoulder in pain after performances with hard choreographies, for almost 8 years he performed with his damaged shoulder and never once lacked in the performance aspect he literally gave his all, in late 2020 he finally got a shoulder surgery to treat it because his shoulder pains after dancing were getting worse and that's why he couldn't be on some of the promotions for bts' "be" album so if you watch some interviews from that time you won't see him with the members since he was in recovery (the bts members still brought cardboard cut-outs of him and couldn't stop talking about how much they missed him so he was somewhat present hehe).

After Agust D / Suga explained Haegeum also meant "a liberation from restrictions / bans or something forbidden and based on his lyrics he questions so many societal issues eg. going against conformity, herd mentality, loss of creative thinking, being slaves to prejudice, capitalism, money, RUclips, flexin' and misuse of freedom like freedom of speech to hurt / harm others", it made me think of so many things and reflect again. Thought provoking is an understatement.
Bravely calling out everything / everyone who abuse power, money, profits and promote self indulgence etc with nothing vague about what he means!
My personal perspective is that in this song and throughout the whole D-Day album, the ultimate survivor is Min Yoongi reborn, forged in the relentless fires between his personas Suga and Agust D on & off stage. Min Yoongi is the proverbial scarred Phoenix that rose from the ashes of his trauma and life experiences to evolve into the human being that he has always wanted to be and how he is trying his damn best to live humane in this crazy world.

I agree a lot with you, Yoongi is also the most relatable to me, I've been with them for years and that never changed. I cried so hard with Snooze when i read the lyrics because oh my god!! He also added to this song the lines of So Far Away (honestly my favorite Agustd song) where he talks about living without having a dream is painful and dreading, and now with this song he hopes that those who have will succeed without having to gave up on themselves in the proccess. It's something he said a lot to the members of the younger group of their label, TXT, in his show Suchwita, this song looks a lot like a message to them also.
Even if our struggles are different, Yoongi is the most honest about the most heavy topics and his music speaks in a personal manner like hes talking to you directly and always includes something like a pat on the back or a kiss in the forehead lol. He's very considerate to people who might be going through something similar to him or just struggles with life in general, I think that's why we can relate so much. His honesty resonates and his words of comfort are always just right, he really just hopes he can get us to go through another day, he's an amazing artist and person in general.

  • @narwhalzipan3785

One of my favorite things about Min Yoongi is the way he shows us what music really can be. He has mastered the art of distilling the human experience into potent catharsis. His music makes us think, feel, reflect - he makes us want to be better people who can make a better world. And on top of all that, everything just sounds SO GOOD. The beat, texture, flow, and atmosphere of each track is impeccable and perfectly suits the tone of it's content. The arrangement of the album as a whole is absolutely masterful. Beginning with loud declarations, sliding into vulnerable ponderings, then understated truths, and landing with comfort and reassurance. It's just so perfect, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to listen and absorb everything he has given us. Also, knowing some of what he's been through, and to see how he has grown into the person he is today with such strength and grace - I'm so glad he's here.

yoongi basically kills off a version of himself every music video because every single version ultimately gets poisoned with greed (he has talked about "the monster called greed" that's a leash the previous two albums as well...), so when that greed grows too much, a new version of yoongi kills the greedy one, sort of like his version of keeping himself down to earth, perhaps. that's how some of us interpreted him killing his other selves in daechwita and here, in haegeum.

43:17 he is literally talking about how when he/BTS does speak up they're looked down on and also how if they don't speak up they're looked down on having the influence and not speaking up. What's funny is literally for Haegeum, he's been targeted by 1000s of people right now on twt calling him hypocrite for speaking up on Capitalism cuz he's now a millionaire. These idiots want to complain about everything. Suga of all the people has faces the wrath of capitalism literally debuting in a small company what money & influence can do. Now he's using his position & influence rebelling against and showing beautifully in the mv that despite him rebelling at the end of the day he is also part of the system.
I wonder why other forms of art or cinema are highly acclaimed for talking about issues like this but when BTS/in this case Suga does it, he is called a hypocrite

Thank you as always for this reaction! I think I listened to this album at least 3 times today and I already feel like I won't be able to live without it. This album just hit and surprised me in a freaking good way! The way I can feel Yoongi's growth through it is just so amazing. In his first mixtape ( that was released in 2016) I felt like he had something to prove as BTS were still trying to show the world what kind of music they could pull off ( they literally had to fight against prejudice) so he rapped pretty fast and his songs were more about their haters and current succes at that time. In the second album, you can definitely observe a growth from his first project as it contains songs from 2016 to 2020 and I feel like the songs are bound with a logical thread ( I have no idea if this expression actually exists in English ), so you can feel a distinct progression throughout the album. In D-2 he still shows us is inner thoughts and struggles like he did on Agust D ( with So far away and The last) but he matured a lot and we can sense that he sees the world with a new perpective. But in D-DAY, Yoongi becomes even more intimate with us and the growth from his previous album is there again! Yoongi isn't afraid of what the future holds anymore and became so optimist ( I was really surprised about this side of him actually). He acknowledges that all the hardships we've been through define who we are now, in the present and encourages us to keep going even if it's hard because everything is eventually going to be okay ( yeah you can tell I'm a big fan of Snooze :) Whatever all of this just to say that Yoongi trully impressed me and that he is such a great example!

Michael is back at it again😭👏 my favorite reaction among any other reactions out there when it comes to BTS' albums whether as a group or solo. the thing i like about your reaction, Michael, is the fact that you can make me cry harder after i cried enough by the lyrics themselves. reading the lyrics while listening to the songs for the first time already made me bawl my eyes out, then watching your album reaction afterwards just make me cry even harder for the various reasons. you make me notice the things that i missed, you make me appreciate the album even deeper to a whole another level, you help to emphasize some lines that i might not quite understand at first. that's the thing, when i already love an album so much then someone can make me love the album even more, i like that.
and i'm on the same page as you about Yoongi being the most relatable member because of personal reasons. that's why i always listen to his whole discography when life gets too hard because his words-i feel like-are the only thing that understands me

BTS music can be overwhelming and need several listening to unpack the poetry, double entendres and this is even before the MV’s. I don’t love all of their songs but they are prolific as artists and put music out nonstop. It takes courage to release mixtapes for free sharing work in process. It’s beyond healthy that they are continually encouraged to express themselves by their company which is a rarity in SK or anywhere else

So the female voice from SDL is Adora, who was an in-house producer of Big Hit, and recently lunched her solo singer career
I cried A LOT listening to Amygdala, the first time I only listened to the album, and even not knowing what he was saying, I cried, and then when I listened reading the lyrics I just broke down
And Snooze: it is a song that yoongi made thinking about younger singers that he wanted to comfort and tell them that he knows it's hard, and they should cry and and rest and laugh. He wants to be their comfort and support them, and you can see this also in Suschwita episode with two members from TXT, which is the second group that debuted at Big HIT

As always, I loved your reaction. I agree with everything you said about Yoongi. I really feel like he was able to outdone himself with this album. For me this, album is perfection and is the best album of the year till now. Also, Snooze and Life gos on are my new confort songs.
Yoongi is a genius artist and I think of him as one of the best lyricist in the world, his music is amazing and his lyrics are so relatable. He just always blows my mind away.

The female voice probably is Adora. He loves to work with her... easy to understand, isn't it? Her voice is lovely!
You know? All his lines are so relatable to al the sh@t we are living today... Living in a society is making politics. Any movement we do in society is politics. The day all the people understand that, life will be better.

I 💜 you but did you have to keep rubbing it in my face you are going to his concert and going to witness the genius in person. I was lucky enough to get to go to BTS concert last April. It was the most magical experience I have ever had. I really thought I was going to get tickets to Suga/Agust D but it just didn’t work out, so sing, scream and cheer for me. Happy for you 😊

I know im 4 months late to this, but you mentioned not knowing what yellow journalism is, it's a term i know from history classes. Yellow journalism is essentially the concept of newspapers writing sensationalized or exaggerated stories which may or may not have any basis in truth in order to sell papers and influence the public. The most common example of this cited in US history is the explosion of the USS Maine, which exploded accidentally, and which newspapers/politicians who wanted the US to get involved in conflict between Spain and Cuba, accused Spain of doing intentionally. This is one of the first major examples of yellow journalism in the US, and it's a pretty archaic term nowadays, something that is usually mentioned as a historical fact about past corruption. The fact that he uses this term specifically is really interesting to me, given the context of the song. The implication is that nothing has changed, and we are, as a society, just as corrupt as we have always been, we just hide it better.

26:08 HE HAD A CAR ACCIDENT, AND BROKE HIS SHOULDER. HE DIDN'T TELL IT TO ANYONE AND KEEP IT TO HIMSELF BECAUSE HE'S AFRAID THAT BIGHIT WOULD STOP HIM FROM BEING BTS, AND LATER TELL THEM AND HE JUST GOT SURGERY THIS BIG YEAR OF 2020. HE SUFFERED SO MUCH, AND IT'S THE SAME FROM HIS FIRST MIXTAPE "THE LAST"

I love that the music video perfectly mirrors Daechwita. But a modern version. The corrupt King who kills people (now a corrupt police man) with the scar who represents capitalism and corruption of power. Then Agust D is his true rebellious self looking to free people from the tyranny of the corrupt powers. And the people support him doing so (as seen by the fact the "underlings" support him in his assassination of the King). The opening scene is also a modern version of the opening scene from Daechwita, where Suga appears with his companions as they walk through a busy market street. Then you have the scene where he has his hands tied around the bonfire, which is what happened in Daechwita as well. Then the assassination by gun. The "killing" of the old by the new. And then the freedom of hanging out of a speeding car and breathing. Like in the Daechwita video as well.... as well as referencing the Joker who was notorious for being rebellious and against the Establishment. There's a scene in the Dark Knight movie where Heath ledger drives while hanging his top half out of the car and breathes/smiles. After having caused absolute chaos. It's all amazing. Suga has so many layers to his creativity... it's amazing. And the scene where he is being "drowned" by his character in what was a bathtub of money but transformed into water... such a beautiful representation of Powers, Money, Corruption, Big Media and Old Ideals being used to overburden, silence and drown those without such power. It's such a beautiful image for what we all experience in real-life.

And he said the Daechwita version was him killing his old self. And now his old self, is a corrupt power. (Seen by the scar he had in Daechwita as well) And now his newer version is killing his older new version. It's SOOOO good.

Daechwita and Haegeum feels like lost twins because this feels like a pattern. Yoongi keeps killing off his old self (the king with a scar) when his self reaches the point of greed and corruption once again. He keeps doing it to bring himself back down to the ground so that the humble version of himself lives on instead of the one tainted with greed. He shot the king on Daechwita and shot him once again in Haegeum.
That's why he mentioned that he forgave those people who hated them and want only to stay humble.
BTS/YOONGI ARE THE MOST SELF-AWARE ARTISTS I'VE EVER KNOWN...
like they knew something we don't, they know how dirty the industry works and that's why they don't get swayed so easily. They are not afraid to call out names and the industry. Slamming them for corruption and all. Taking all the risks of backlash they will get that may affect their career
