@DoctorishQ You are a hot doctor! I wanna go into EM and your videos are very inspiring. Thank you for your time and commitment, it shows how much you actually care about helping others!
Great to see you back! Glad to see you nearing the end. You have been a great source of information. Good luck on Match Day! #side note: I loved how your cat randomally appeared. Looks just like mine :-)
@MissMavieStar Your welcome! Thanks for the suggestion. I've been thinking about starting a blog. I'm moving from a very large urban city to a very rural southern town for school. It may prove to be interesting reading as I make this transition. I'll be sure to send you the link if it comes to fruition! Be sure to message me if you have any other questions about osteopathic medicine, I applied exclusively to DO schools, and NOT because they are "easier" to get into!
@DoctorFeatherstone We took the Meyers-Briggs as part of our professionalism course and I was ENFP. I'm most heavily skewed toward extroverted vs introverted and was almost 50-50 feeling vs thinking. In fact, I took it again later on and it had changed but really I feel it could go either way depending on my mood. According to the analysis, I don't plan well and I have a short attention span. I have excellent verbal skills, however which makes up for my usually poor preparation.
@Baller5ajk HAHA! Ok, there aren't really GPs in the US anymore. We call them family practitioners and there's a residency for it- only two or three years I think. I applied into general surgery residencies this year. If I complete those 5 years and then go into practice, I will be a general surgeon. If I do a fellowship instead, I am a specialist in some kind of surgery. Make sense? :)
@MissMavieStar So I am at an allopathic school and I know pretty much 0 about osteopaths except that they get a D.O. and it's a bit easier to get into than allopathic. I know they're supposed to focus more on whole-body medicine and study body manipulation as treatment but I'm honestly not entirely sure what that means. I have seen excellent residents who were D.O.s, but it is known in the field that entry is easier. Beyond that I don't know.
This video is wonderful. The details you put into your videos makes your channel one of a kind! I've read some of the post for this video and I would like to build off of one of the indivuals that posted. If possible, can you please describe your academic life in high school. Also, what type of personality do you have based off one of Carl Jung's theory. For example, whether you're intoverted or extroverted, intuitive v. feeling, etc.
You can do a year of research and then try again, there are one-year "prelim" programs that at least keep you employed until you can apply again. Definitely no guarantees, especially since the number of med school spots has increased but not residency positions. My year actually was the first year there were more domestic MD and DO applicants than there were residency positions, and you always have even more people trying to get in from foreign medical schools. It's scary!
@MissMavieStar I'm starting medical school at an Osteopathic school in a few months. The manipulation is called OMM (osteopathic manual manipulation) there is a very good book called "The DOs, Osteopathic Medicine in America- by Norman Gevitz" that gives a great, readable history of the field. If your interests are in preventative medicine, you could get either an MD or a DO and be able to do that.
i watched ALL your videos today, you're quite amazing and i hope you match where you'd like to!!! i'm prepping for step 1 right now and i was wondering if you had any advice on how i should prep myself for rotations eg. what kind of skills/knowledge should i have to be impressive and to get good grades? if i want to get into general surgery, what should i do to increase my chances of getting matched starting the first day of rotations? (eg. research, good letters of reccom.) ?
Where are you traveling to?! I mean broadly, what countries/continents, etc. Is it hard to afford after all the interview expenses? I'm just wondering because I'm a huge travel fanatic but also a pre-med, and I want to try and find time for both! Thanks for all your advice and posts :)
Thanks for all your support everybody! I really can't tell you how much it means to me :)
