This poignant song is full of profound meaning. It makes me tear up every time I listen to it. My good friend Ralphie Morrow was drafted out of Sandcreek High School in 1967. He went to boot camp and was shipped directly to the jungles of South Vietnam. He was killed on patrol in the first week he was there. He never saw his 19th birthday. So sad.
It must have been about 1962/3 when my late father (he would be 115 today) first heard this lilting ballad. He had a soft heart. He lost his father and two uncles in 1917 leaving only one of the 4 brothers to survive the war. His mother and grand parents never recovered. Father listened. I saw his head sink into his upheld hands. He was openly weeping. He lost friends in the second war too. It was the only time I ever saw him show his raw feelings. I remember mother and I trying to comfort him with a stiff whisky. You can imagine what this beautiful song means to me.
A song can bring back memories and emotions to the fore front of one's mind. I'm sure it brought back the pain he had endured all his life. May he rest in peace. God bless
it is a beautiful song, Adrian...ive heard it many times during the 60's and later, done by many artists and it never gets old...my dad fought in WWII and Korea and managed to come home in one piece and lived a good life til his untimely death from cancer in 1978...we had attributed this to his time in the military, as he was an officer in the chemical corps where protection for the troops was much less than it should have been, compared to what we know now...but who knows for sure. I, for one, loved the military life and being the no. 1 son of an officer...but I, thankfully, never had to experience the downside of having a loved one or even a buddy not come home. Your "old man" sounds like he was one of the good guys...
in 2 days (June 6, 1944) it will be the 80th anniversary of D-Day I have been watching RUclips videos of these elderly veterans taking an honor flight to back Normandy Beach to remember. I was born in 1943 do not remember because I was 11 months old. Thanks to all you who have survived. Thanks for your service. God bless all of you.
This song will always be relevant. There are alot of brothers, sons and Fathers across the world going off to fight in a wars they do not understand and for a country that they have grown disenchanted with. We will never learn.
My dad loved this song. Brings tears to my eyes. Dad you did so much in the way only you knew how to love . I didnt understand your language of love. I rebelled. Today when I have a son I realize how truly kind you were and what you sacrificed for us your children. One day we will meet again in the presence of our Lord. Till then dad know you are loved forever
A loving father is priceless. So glad you were able to know this kind of fatherly love. Your dad would be so proud of you today. God bless. We will surely meet them again, someday beyond the blue.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Not only is the melody simple and beautiful, but the lyrics are as well. Full circle.

These poor boys had the future picked for them. leaving their family behind is such a sad thing hearing news that your son, family, or friend passed in the war must be heartbreaking. Well, they just reinstated the draft. If we don't get RFK Jr. in, we're f**ked!! I'm already thinking of where in the hell I can send my grandson. Can't go to Canada anymore.
Well people need to educate their children and step up and impart wisdom and stop letting the school system teach them evolution and the Big Bang theory and the media and entertainment industries competitiveness, avarice, superficiality, and vain idolatry, and perversion of one sort or another and to practice storylines that have nothing to do with real life and how one ought to relate to others in real life… I pray people will repent to the Lord Jesus…

This is the favorite song of my grandfather who just passed recently. This song makes me feel that he is still here, living and waiting for us to visit him. I miss him so much
A long time mentor and friend of mine died recently. He introduced me to this song and its message on war. This song is one of my few reminders of him. He gave speeches to schools in my area about the Holocaust and how lessons of the Holocaust apply to modern life today. He was a man of integrity, and this is one of the few memories I have of him. I will miss him. Fly high big guy :)

I remember this song from my childhood. I sing the first two opening lines many many times as that is really all I could remember. I'm a veteran myself and I just stumbled across this really by accident. But it got me......Thank you.
Cry, cry for every flower. Loved these flowers from 84 years ago. Still beating for all these flowers. Pick a flower and pin it on my dress too. I give you a garland of flowers with ❤.
Listening to this today. June 1st, 2020. The guitar intro started and so did my 😢. Haven't heard this in over 40yrs!!! Gold never rusts. Rust never sleeps. Peace. Now.
What a beautiful and meaningful video set to this fantastic version of this song. I actually own t3he original LP of this song. I am a retired military member and I hear this song and it fills me with sorrow and sometimes tears that this vicious cycle has not been broken yet. And now, not only our young men are killed adn maimed, but even some young women as well. Thank you for this song, I have shared it on my FB page.
It is a reminder of all of us- Be leaders of any nations or citizens, that we should not Advocate to Engaging WAR. For in War, there is no Winner, but in real only Losser.. Thank you for this musical presentation. (If permitted to share, then I would..)
I lived in Hawaii for 34 years and I managed a gym that Dave Guard used to attend. He was quite a character. Brilliant, personable and funny. He used to submit letters to the editor of the Honolulu Star Bulletin and Honolulu Advertiser under the pseudonym of Eduardo J. Guardo. His acerbic but well-tempered wit was a blessing. He is missed.
Where has this music gone? Long time passing Where has this music gone? Long time ago Where has this music gone? Gone to time everyone. When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? Seriously good stuff like this needs to make a comeback.
I don't think that I've ever seen a better; more visceral, presentation than what jasmine e has given us....and for that I will be eternally grateful.....
When we don't learn to accept, understand, and love ourselves, then we can not do the same toward people outside of us. Patience and peace is from self love. Sime od us was mot taught self love, self understanding, and self acceptance. How can we give to other people and animals. We don't know about and don't give ourselves.
Translated: It has been quite a while that I haven't listened to this song and it's kind of heart wrenching listening to it now against the backdrop of the Russian Ukraine war. This famed song that carries a anti war undertone has originated from an Ukrainian folk song, inspired by a Russian novel - [And Quiet Flows the Don]. It depicts the lives and struggles of the Don Cossacks who lived along middle and lower Don during the early 20th century. The Cossacks youths were conscripted and leaving to report to the white Russian war camp. They would soon be embroiled in the civil war. The Cossack mothers would lullaby the children, "Where have all the geese gone? - gone amongst the reeds." "Where have all the reeds gone? - Cut off by the young girls?" "Where have all the young girls gone? - married to the Cossacks". "Where have all the Cossacks gone - gone to the war" Inspired by this folk song, legendary American folk singer, Pete Seeger wrote this song in 1956 to voice his stance against wars of aggression. Having witnessed the Second World War and the Korean war where American boys were fated to sacrifice just like the Cossacks; he changed the lyrics, "reeds" to "flowers". As it was sung in the lullaby; the flowers were picked by the young girls, the young girls then got married, their husbands went for war, they were killed and buried, their burial grounds were soon forgotten. Then came along the next generation of young girls, they too came to pick flowers but they weren't aware that beneath the flowers were the burial grounds, the young girls got married and their husbands again went to war. In a gentle tone Seeger brought forth the cyclical fallacy of war by asking *When will they ever learn?* ruclips.net/video/bI3QVsW30j0/видео.html
maybe you'll never get this.. when i was in 4th grade my teacher to give us a break would bring in his guitar and sing this .and 500 miles...blowing in the wind...god bless kim... and thank you mr watson;;;;
How was this song conceived in the first place? The imagination is legendary. This song gives me a mixed feeling of sadness and melody. Thanks for the song and for the uploading!

normal people don't want war! Neither in Russia, in the US, nor in Iraq or anywhere else .... All is a matter of politics! dirty politics and dirty money! Peace to people of good will.
Clive Bindley we don't need saving , or help, we are Americans for God sakes, you have the right to protest and assemble peacefully. but it's just kinda sad to see how people are still upset at our victory in the office. Make America Great Again!!
Maggy May and that Is there right to not vote for one I the other, and I'm glad about that, I just feel that some of them are liberals and decided that going online and protesting about trump was "a vote" when really it was not, the Democratic party could have won the election easily, but some young people did not vote , they only protested, and that's why Clinton won the popular vote and not the deciding vote..

Grandfather WW1 and great great grandfather captain in the Union Army Civil War.-- me son three tours in Iraq. I hate war but sometimes it may be necessary. I love this country with every ounce of my blood. When I hear this song it takes me to these men. Never did one die but all served and experienced the death of fellow Patriots. God bless America.
Im so glad u survived the war! What an honor to come from a fly of Patriots. God bless u and all the other heros of the Nam war. I understand yr feeling of luv for yr country, me too, when i was in school and we learnt about the states in our geography class i fell in luv with it specially california😄😄🤔 and vowed to come and make the states my home from maybe age 11, but destiny had other plans for me. But the two times i visited the states i visited the Arlington cemetry and paid homage to soldiers who lost their lives, and to the unnamed soldiers whose statue is there. I cried for all of them, and prayed for all of them. Thank u Mark for all that u and yr family did for yr country. God bless u.

I don't know man. God's been around a long while, and this stuff is still a problem. Seems like if he was going to do anything, he'd have done it by now.
I had a cousin fight in Vietnam. I never met him because I hadn't been born yet and he died overseas. My father in law was also a Vietnam vet who volunteered to fight under Colonel Moore of We Were Soldiers fame. He survived the war and lived his life according to the Soldier's Code till his dying day in 2008. Before he died he actually spoke in my history class when I was studying at MTI College. Never had the experience of Vietnam been made more real to me than in that moment. God rest ye, Bill Eckhardt and James K. O'leary. I'm proud to call you both my family.
My 80 year old Father fought in Vietnam and I was a Marine. Those who forget History are bound to repeat it.

Peace. Now.
Hello Susan, How are you doing?
@James Hama I'm okay, thank you James. Do we know one another?
@James Hama I'm not interested in any man that calls me honey.
Where has this music gone? Long time passing
Where has this music gone?
Long time ago
Where has this music gone?
Gone to time everyone.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
Seriously good stuff like this needs to make a comeback.
To piosenka Marleny Dietrich
Thank you all who did your service for your country.
Only those who have faced the horrors of war know how valueful peace is
J’ai 78 ans et j’aime émue à en pleure. Une mamie
Me too a ame 74
Thank you all those who served in Nam. lost a classmate there. thankfully my Nam vet brother came home safe
I always think they'll NEVER learn, until I actually play the song.
Healing power of music ❤
Made me sad when I was a young man. Now I'm an old man, and cry for all my friends that didn't have a chance to get old.
As Veterans day comes up, I thank all of you, dead or alive, for your service and commitment to keeping America free.
I don't think that I've ever seen a better; more visceral, presentation than what jasmine e has given us....and for that I will be eternally grateful.....
my late dad bought this single in 1964 happy fathers day lots of love dad i wish id said when he was alive xxx
When we don't learn to accept, understand, and love ourselves, then we can not do the same toward people outside of us. Patience and peace is from self love. Sime od us was mot taught self love, self understanding, and self acceptance. How can we give to other people and animals. We don't know about and don't give ourselves.
My father being a combat veteran,my grandfather a ww2 veteran, this song makes me very emotional... absolutely beautiful
❤😢😮
I used to sing this song every time in school assembly in primary. In the 90s this used to make me cry every single time.
Today is ANZAC DAY . RIP 😞 🙏 to all those service people who lost their lives 😢
Translated:
It has been quite a while that I haven't listened to this song and it's kind of heart wrenching listening to it now against the backdrop of the Russian Ukraine war.
"Where have all the Cossacks gone - gone to the war"
Inspired by this folk song, legendary American folk singer, Pete Seeger wrote this song in 1956 to voice his stance against wars of aggression. In a gentle tone Seeger brought forth the cyclical fallacy of war by asking *When will they ever learn?*

How lucky u were. All the songs were beautiful.
Отличная песня. Всем мира и добра.
Ukraine STRONG!!!
I too was young and innocent once. Vietnam 1972-1973.
How was this song conceived in the first place? The imagination is legendary. This song gives me a mixed feeling of sadness and melody. Thanks for the song and for the uploading!
Beautiful voices.
Thx~
I Agree
God bless our Vietnam Veterans!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
"Man will NEVER learn"! Generation after Generation...HISTORY DOES repeat itself!!!👏👏👏🇺🇸🦅Peace will come??????
Beautiful voice and meaningful lyric on the whole song 😊🤗
キングストントリオのこの歌に結構はまって唄ってますね😁凄く大好きな歌です💘🎶😄
I went to summer camp and this was my favorite song we sang because I really needed it and I just love it
every time i hear this song,, i cry,, for war goes on and on,,, and we go on and on, wanting freedom,,, how stupid is man, for all the brave young men and women,, give their lives for us
normal people don't want war! Neither in Russia, in the US, nor in Iraq or anywhere else .... All is a matter of politics! dirty politics and dirty money! Peace to people of good will.
4 years later. The world isn't the problem. But us humans.
this song is so beautiful and peaceful. love this masterpiece
This is one of my favorites. I loved it since I was only 7 years old.
God bless us all at this time in our lives.................................When will the world ever learn?,........................................
There are protests all round the country tonight.
80 million people did not vote because they did not like either candidate.
@@harmonikahanz BS the only places Killary won is in the major cities that are full of illegal voters..this is why we have the electoral college to keep us from being governed by small areas with a large population..all those blue areas on the map are all democratic run and failing miserably! Demonrats will make the fall of this nation happen from within
Unfortunately they will never learn those in power because that is all they crave ( power ), And until the weak become strong they will go on and on.
Absolutely beautiful and very beautiful beautifully done!!!✝️🇱🇷👏👍🌹🌹🌹❤️💕💓💗
My mom used to sing this to me all the time, this is the first time I've heard it in years. I'm moved.
try listening to the marlene dietreich version
I am 66 years old- served at the end of Nam era. Cousin Vietnam. Dad Korea Uncle and granddad WW2 both Patton’s third army. Uncle army air corps Flights bombings over Dresden.
Beautiful song and this is the best version of it.
Best is Peter Paul and Mary.
One of the most simple, but Iconic tunes of all time. When will they ever learn
This is a timeless classic, there's some amazing German/French and Polish versions of this, sad but so true lyricsI don't think us, the human race will EVER LEARNuntil its to late !!!
Sadly I agree it will be too late once we realise.
+Drew Shelly
I believe the last refrain could be changed to "when will we ever learn".
Drew Shelly no , we have learned, we have learned to revolt against liberal and Islamic terror, inside and outside our country.
Make America great again!!
Gavin George generation Z, and and a could percentage of American citizens have realized.
the counter culture realized!!
Bless you all in America from way across the pond in the uk Cross...take care :)
WONDERFUL OLD SONG.
Hopefully, in God's mercy and in His good time, they will learn one day.
He's bollocks and more than half of the problem
I don't know man. God's been around a long while, and this stuff is still a problem. Seems like if he was going to do anything, he'd have done it by now.
can't help listening to this mermerising song again and again. so meaningful classic evergreen song 👍
This song always moves me. Sad, mellow, but true.
Such a meaningful song, it's always been one of my childhood favorites. Thank you for posting it. :)
These are the merrymen. Brilliant in the day !!! Made some excellent music. Trinidad or Tobago - cant remember.
