    What's always fascinated me as a now long time ex-Chicagoan, is that growing up in Chitown literally 90-95% of all pizzas sold and pretty much 100% of all mom-n-pops joints were the thin crust. The deep dish only began taking hold and gaining national attention as a "Chicago" style pizza was in the 60's & early 70's. To this day thin crust still dominates, yet anytime someone brings up Chicago and pizza, it's almost always the deep dish. Go figure.

    • @shadowpapito
      @shadowpapito 2 года назад +2

      Yeah ... Most people don't know we have the best thin crust! I will not give out the sweet spots they don't need to know! That why we laugh at the Goof Balls from NYC who claim that flat skinny cardboard they try to call pizza is the best ... When I first seen them fold that cardboard and place it their pie hole I fell out! Buon Appetito

      Yeah, I'm the same. People from Chicago have deep dish maybe twice a year or not at all. The thin crust, which they have recently started calling "Tavern Style" is superb. I grew up thinking that thin crust was supposed to be cut in squares! Now, I'm not in a good pizza state, so there are limited options that serve something good (and no Tavern Style_. Its funny how so many big cities can't get pizza right.

    Giordano’s over Lou Malnati’s? This list is way off. Lou’s should be at the top and Giordano’s should’ve switched places. I normally don’t comment on videos, but I’m passionate about my Chicago deep dish. And many of the other pizza chains listed aren’t even that great. Pizzeria Uno or Gino’s East - trash.
    When you have tourists who aren’t originally from Chicago tell their other touristy friends to go eat and Giordano’s because it’s “the best Chicago deep dish”, we let them because they don’t know any better. But any true Chicagoan (and take it from a true Chicagoan), we eat at Lou’s. We try to course correct and tell people UNO’s or Gino’s East or Giordano’s just ain’t quite up to scratch, but it’s really on them to eat that garbage.
    Bu for real, there aren’t just these chains, there are other great places like Vito and Nick’s, or Pequod’s or Labriola…go check them out and support them, because they’re equally good, if not better than all of the chains!

    I'm from Chicago and while I've never heard of most of the joints mentioned early on, the images were, for the most part, impressive! It used to be impossible to find anything actually resembling Chicago Deep Dish pizza, but by the looks of the pizza at most of the joints mentioned, they've nailed it, or come close enough to be enjoyable as their own creations. A few were less successful at actually being Chicago Deep Dish pizzas, but probably taste great, whatever they actually might be.

    Uno's Pizzeria and Grill serves a different recipe than what you get at the original Uno's/Dou's locations in Chicago, part of the deal when Ike Sewell's widow sold the original shops to the chain was that they would continue to serve the original recipe. Malnati's is ok, but I think their crust is undersalted. I, like most Chicagoans, usually go for tavern style over deep dish.

    There's Chicago deep dish, Chicago stuffed crust, and Chicago pan. All three are different but for whatever reason they're all called Chicago deep dish. Me personally, I prefer deep dish over stuffed or pan. And yes, Chicagoans do eat and love all three styles. Thin crust is also a thing here and more popular over all the deep dish varieties. Or at least, more thin crusts are sold here than deep dish. It's harder to find places that sell slices of deep dish than it is to find slices of thin. Thin crust cut into squares is known as tavern style.

I live in Southern Indiana and, down where, I live there’s a lot of pizza joints and, there’s horrible pizza joints for sure and, there’s a few, I don’t care for but, we don’t actually get deep dish pizza pies around this area. I was raised on traditional flat crispy crust and that’s what, I like. I rarely eat deep dish pizza but, if the crust is doughy or raw in the middle the whole deep dish pizza experience is ruined.
