    I love owls. They are such fascinating creatures. My favourite is the great grey owl. I don’t know if you have them out east but here in western Canada they are common. They are these massive birds with the most intense and amazing faces.

    Ethereal owl. While watching you paint, I thought about the movie Ladyhawke. Also, remembered some owls are breeding this time of year. That adds to them being more active and more visible. I’m also having trouble with energy and motivation this time of year. I double up on the vitamin D with my health care providers blessing. Bleak, ain’t it?

      I upped my vitamin D as well. Bleak indeed. I don't think I've ever seen the movie Ladyhawke. I'm curious now. I'll check it out.😊

    Lydia , this is a beautiful piece !! I'm just curious as to why you switched to the oils , for the glazes of color ( as opposed to just glazing with thin washes of acrylics)... I love watching your processes so much .. Thx in advance , for your response.. Norakag , here 👍👍

      Thank you! I switched to oils because I have a longer working time. I usually switch to oils during the refinement stage and to add detail. I love the finish of oil paint.😊

      @@lydiabroderick867Yes I have them and its a lot easier clean up but something is not quite the same as real oil paint.

    What a wonderful painting, thank you for sharing your process! I have a question: at the beginning, you put some dark blue as a base color and afterwards you used a sponge. Did you use the sponge while the blue was still wet? Is that the reason why it turned white on places that you touched the sponge? Or the blue was dried and you had white color on the sponge?
    I have a second question, what is the reason for using gesso on the texture paste?
    Thank you very much for posible answers!

    • @lydiabroderick867
      @lydiabroderick867  12 дней назад +1

      Hello AstridArt3! I let the base color dry, then applied the white with a damp sponge. The texture picks up the white easily as you glide across. I add a layer of gesso to the modeling paste to add more tooth for the acrylics to adhere to. Sometimes I have found that paint lifts off of modeling paste if I'm using a lot of water, but gesso helps prevent this from happening.😊

    • @AstridArt3
      @AstridArt3 9 дней назад

      @lydiabroderick867 Thank you very much for your answer Lydia! This made me finally order the gesso and try it as well. It is true that when I paint on the texture paste directly, then it feels like the surfave is very dry... I usually just applied enough layer of the base color to manage this... But I will give it a try with the gesso. Thank you!
      And regarding the sponge - I like your blue-white combination here, so I tried it on my painting as well, even if using a different motif. I am curios how it will come out after playimg with the white and the sponge tomorrow...
