    Wow, nicely done. 👍 I know what you mean being surprised by how hard it was to cut the through the casings. I told our ten year old to put what he wants in his ferro rod handle epoxy casting and rather than add pine cones and fatwood he added a few pennies. I didn't think the pennies would be too hard to cut through lol. You had me curious on this one. I was going to try it.

    This is an interesting idea. I'd be interested to see a version done where the first cast was narrower - then this cast was put into a second fatter cast of resin so that when turning the screwdriver handle's on the lathe there would be a buffer zone of clear resin and the shell casings would remain intact behind this at the finish.

    357, 45ACP, 40S&W, 22Mag, 223, (but why would you have 9mm when there's a 40 or 357 handy)-you're speaking my language now! (Born and raised WY, those numbers mean more than telephone numbers) Might have tumbled them a bit to get them pretty, but the handle turned out awesome! And for the naysayers, carbide is far harder than brass...just sayin'. Fantastic idea!

    • @PohlBarnProductions
      @PohlBarnProductions  5 лет назад +2

      well the 40 belongs to my son in law, and the rest are pricey to just throw down range, 9mm's are cheap ! I thought about tumbling them after the fact, did I miss what the naysayers were sayin ? I knew I could cut the brass with the carbide I just didn't expect the brass to be that hard, I should have run the lathe faster than I did. Glad you liked it, it really was an experiment that turn out Great I think.

    • @brnforce
      @brnforce 5 лет назад +2

      Like, when you say something such as "carbide is far harder than brass" my brain completely agrees. Yet my thought watching the video was "Man, he better watch out for that metal". lol, weird how sometimes it just doesn't click.

    • @SunJ79
      @SunJ79 5 лет назад

      @Azhaar Laghari Because I own a 45 & 40, both of which have more kinetic knock down power than a 9mm. Have had 9's-have no use for them. Personal preference-if you like the 9mm platform, good for you. I prefer the 45 & 40-is what it is.

    • @sithyarael6807
      @sithyarael6807 5 лет назад +1

      @thomas lee good old 40 short & weak. Most LEO's and Feds have gone back to the 9mm as better generation of bullets than when the short and weak came out. Now 10MM is where it is at for the non-pussy feds.

    • @SunJ79
      @SunJ79 5 лет назад

      I've put my 40 up against a 9, and it's by no means weak. If I feel it's not enough, I'll carry my 45. As said, you're entitled to your opinion-doesn't mean I have to agree with it, nor you mine.

    • @linerror
      @linerror 5 лет назад +2

      always used the long screwdrivers to spin the shank fast with my finger tips. if the length of the driver is causing serious torque problems you're probably doing something wrong. phillips is trash anyway.

    • @davids4767
      @davids4767 5 лет назад +8

      +firebirdude2
      actually long screwdriver shafts don't eat up torque. The reason for this is torque is in units of force times distance, but the distance of course is not distance along the axis of rotation (the screwdriver shaft) but instead distance away from the axis. This is one reason screwdrivers have handles; the bigger the handle, the more torque to the shaft is provided by a given force. Not the length of the shaft.

    Hey Sir, Fellow Michigander here. (Grew up in Vermontville, live in Detroit-metro now).
    Why do you place the epoxy in a pressure chamber? What is the advantage?
    I had thought about a vacuum chamber to draw out air bubbles in thicker castings.
    Sorry for the dumb question; this is a new venture for me. Thanks for your time, and for sharing your projects!

    • @PohlBarnProductions
      @PohlBarnProductions  5 лет назад

      Thank you Tim, LOL I went from 8 and woodward ish area to Charlotte. and I'm never going back ! um to control exothermic reaction and to compress any of the smaller air bubbles until the resin sets up and hardens, vacuum isn't fast enough to remove the bubbles before the resin sets up, there are resins specifically for vacuum chambers then cook it to cure it then pour it and put it into a pressure pot, LOL

      In Canada it’s mandatory for all kids to take industrials arts/ technology education in grades 6,7,8. Can be woods, metals, graphics etc. whatever the middle school facility has.

    I really like that you filled the casings with resin first! So many makers skip that step and then are dismayed by the air pockets. Cool effect!

    • @PohlBarnProductions
      @PohlBarnProductions  5 лет назад

      Thank you Amber, there are a few things that others do that make me wonder but then again I'm sure they also wonder about what and how I am doing it. Pencils being one of them, everyone of them fight with the lead coming out, but not one of them stabilized the pencils first, via Vacuum chamber, but hey that's just the way my brain works, Glad you liked it and thanks for watching.
