Impressive upload! These are real scenes from the original, not from any version that I can recall. You don’t see much new old stock footage every day for this. Thanks!
I saw TMP in London, England the week it came out. All three Klingon ships were destroyed on screen, also when the V'ger probe first appeared on the Enterprise bridge a security guard came out of the left side turbo and fired his phaser at the probe, which returned fire.
I saw it in 4k tonight with my son. The first Klingon ship destroyed was shown in the Epsalon 9 station monitor as a computer outline image. It disappeared leaving the other 2. The remaining ships were then hit by the energy weapons. Overall an improvement in my opinion. Not tampered with too much. Still too long, but a film which has improved with age. And Vger made much more sense. It could be reduced in running time by about 15 mins without changing the plot.
@@spitfiremark1a768 One of the glaring V'ger errors that was corrected in the new 4K Director's Edition was its size. V'ger was originally given a mass of 82 AU in diameter, but its size was reduced to 2 AU.
@@norikotakaya14292 Hello there. Thank you for pointing this out. I thought something had altered but could not put my finger on it. Now it makes sense. Changing from 82 to 2 makes a bit more sense. I suppose originally they wanted to have as much impact as possible but nobody would have known what an AU was. I had to look it up. Did you see Wrath of Khan? I saw both with my son. In his opinion, TMP was more like a TV episode and TWOK looked more like a movie. Which is the opposite to what people originally thought comparing them to each other after release.
Very cool. They shouldn't have cut the Klingon stuff. Other than the ships looking magnificent, we only see 2 of the 3 actually destroyed in the finished film. Thanks for posting!
Anything TMP is great to look at. I always felt like a wide shot of the Epsilon 9 space station being absorbed / attacked by V'ger was always missing from that scene. Perhaps even showing multiple orbs striking the station to cause it's "destruction" / evaporation. Or at the very least that bubble look with the lightning inside that dissolves it much like the Klingon ships.
Even in all of the upgraded, extended, and director's editions, they still never fixed the shot of the station they show in the Enterprise Rec Room screen. You see a shadow creeping across its surface,... that is supposed to be the blue electric energy spreading across it.... and I wish SOMEBODY would fix that already!
This expanded sequence answers some questions I always had, having seen all commercially available versions of STTMP but never this rare glimpse (some have said it was actually in a broadcast version, clearly before my time) but of course this longer sequence and FX shots weren't all in the special longer version or anything else ...it never made sense that the lead Klingon ship would be the only vessel firing upon VGER...in this alternate sequence we see some cool shots of ALL ships firing...in the official versions of course it is just the lead Klingon ship/commander handling the assault....this clip also answers the question as to what happened to the 3rd Klingon vessel that was never shown on screen being neutralized (although it isn't hard to imagine what became of it).
Three Klingon battlecruisers is much more than a mere patrol. It is a task force. Now the Klingon High Command didn't dispatch an entire fleet because V'GER wasn't cruising directly into the heart of Klingon space. It was cruising steadily around the frontier on an outward heading. Nonetheless, it WAS in Klingon space and it was HUGE. So the Klingons dispatched three battlecruisers. Three were deemed enough to confront any possible threat to the Klingon Empire. If more were needed, the task force would call it in. The major powers of the Alpha Quadrant typically deployed one main fleet spaceship, even a smaller but effective one to patrol allotted zones. It was up to the patrolling spaceship to call in for assistance if a major threat materialized. The USS Enterprise was always seen on a patrol if not directed in exploratory space. Fifty years prior the one-nacelle Saladin Class scout/destroyers took up much of the Federation space patrolling duties.
Robert Wise was never very happy with the cut that got released theatrically and I can see why. The plate work for the models never looked like it was properly integrated plus the editing needed to be tightened. Even though the directors cut allowed him to fix some of this , you can still see room for improvement (the model of the man in the spacesuit still looks like a model by the way it falls over at the end of the shot. That scene still needs to have the last second trimmed). Having said that, the best thing to me about STTMP (whichever version i see) is that fantastic Gerry Goldsmith score. To me it saves the movie and is pitch perfect for the film.
The Klingon scenes were in the movie, but what you have here are also scenes of the Epsilon starbase being destroyed too because it's scans were seen as a threat, as mentioned on the Star Trek wiki. AWESOME!
Actually some shots of the Klingon ships are ‘new’ because they were clearly trimmed from the final cut. What stands out here though is that V’Ger was originally subjected to a _barrage_ of torpedoes rather than just the paltry (at least initially) three seen in the film!
There also seems to be an extra shot of V'ger's torpedo firing at the station, which isn't in the final cut. It is implied to be a bigger energy attack in the final cut
These were just the visual effects the company did - I have also uploaded the demo reel where these scenes are from which includes the motion picture theme as they originally used it for their promotion.
This might be from the network television premiere which, like many theatrical movies, add bonus footage to lengthen the film to adjust running time for other editing and commercial breaks
It is not because I recorded the film when it aired first on ABC's Sunday Night Premiere on February 20th, 1983. However, there were shots of the Enterprise leaving drydock and the camara turns and pan with the ship as it passes by. The panning shot was also used when the Big E goes into warp. In the theatrical version (also the DVD) the camara stays still while the ship passes by and also the same happens when it goes into warp. That was a cool looking effect that many people don't know about unless you saw the ABC TV Premiere of STTMP back 2/20/83.
I have the late 1980s "Extended" version and in that and the first release it has this scene. I guess when the edited it down for the "Directors Cut" they felt the whole Klingon scene wasn't necessary. I mean you get to see V'ger assimilate all three vessels originally. I felt cheated. LOL

Mr. Mills since you answered a question a few months ago perhaps you might know where we can see the uncut unedited version of the transporter malfunction scene? I read a few comments around the web and some say the female reached out with a bloody skeletal arm and Sonak was "hissing" in pain as well. There was also a rumor where the original test scene had 6 people die in that scene as well.
I was at Trekyards video on ship separation, perhaps this is the right place to ask, is there an old, old unedited scene where the last Klingon ship separated? I am sure I saw on an old cable (or VHS) over 35 years ago that the "neck" separated as it was being digitalized but didn't get away fast enough. Did I Imagine that or is it possible it really happened in the movie?
Thanks 👍 I need a good copy of the old TMP because it was still awesome, besides the Enterprise survived one direct hit so a klingon shield would easily resist a direct hit too.
@@Holy_Wraith the Enterprise survive the a shot from the cloud because thay had upgraded and modified shields and the Klingons hadn't done that because they didn't know what would be fired at them.
Klingons are a battle race so their shields are stronger than feds and since they went to war with romulans then they probably tuned their shields to resist plasma as well as disruptors. The first 2 klingons didn't have shields up if I'm correct.

This is how I remember it, three klingon battle cruisers were taken out one by one, in the remastered version we only see two
These are from a Demo reel put out by the effects company Apogee. Sort of a portfolio piece, if you will.
Interesting to see some unused visual effects.
1:23 should be included in the film

What doesn't make sense it why the Klingons didn't use Warp power 10 to vamoose out of there.
Mainly because they didn’t want to raise amphibians when the warp 10 Klingon ship got back…
"Retreat" does not exist in the Klingon vocabulary!
Did more than one Klingon ship open fire? From this clip it looks like it.
Yes all 3 of them are shown firing. They filmed it as storyboarded but didn't include all these scenes in the final version of the movie
No music or sound effects. Do you know if I mess something up?
