- Incredibly fun day. There were fish EVERYWHERE. Couldn't fit all the fish in one video haha. We literally fished the top section of the river the whole time. I mentioned it a few times in the video but most of these fish were planters from the lake that got flushed through the dam last year, when we had record rain and snow fall. Healthy fish though. Some of them had fins that were a little beat up but overall, in pretty good shape. They didn't have any fishing pressure all winter, so they were eager to eat anything that drifted by. I hope you all enjoy watching the videos. Tight lines everyone.

There were some fatties in there. Before last year, you wouldn't catch planters in there. They got flushed through the dam. Oh well still tons of fun haha. Thanks Colby 🤙🏾
Time to get yourself a hardy perfect reel so you won’t have a drag issue plus there are a lot fun to fish with anyway. Great video cheers.
I would love to have a reel like that but it might be a while before I can talk myself into dishing out that kind of money haha. I'm sure it'll last a few life times.

One of the few good places left to fish is that Bridgeport Reservoir Outflow in the winter, in the Spring and Summer it is a total zoo now like Hot Creek. You need to pickup one of those inexpensive PISCIFUN reels as a backup😉.
The crowds there are unreal now. I need to try the Nevada side haha
A back up Piscifun reel isn't a bad idea. Might even become my main reel haha.

I broke my reel too on that trip when some salt water came in and rusted the mechanisms. At least your reel can reel-mine can’t reel or dispenses line 😂
Man that was frustrating haha. I still don't know what made it do that cause I've fished a couple times since and it didn't do it. My only guess is that it was semi frozen.
That salt is no joke. Hopefully you're able to take it apart and fix it. Can we expect a video of that trip?
@@FreeFormFlyFisher There will be a video of that trip soon (if I can get around to editing it). It was really fun and thankfully I was able to land some fish in both saltwater and fresh water.
I’ll probably just buy a cheap Maxcatch reel to use until I can get a more expensive one. The only issue with those is that they have an open spool so any drop of saltwater, no matter how much washing with fresh water you give it, will completely ruin it.

I hear ya. Thankfully the flows here were fishable. Lots of places I want to go and can't because of high flows. If you decide to go to this particular river, the fish are A LOT more picky now because of pressure.

The first half, I was lamenting the fish that were breaking you off or slipping off, but man the second half... Those big bows man... Can't believe you caught that one without setting the hook (I have accidental hook ups all the time too) on such a tiny fly. I get having to take a break... Adrenaline like that needs to be followed by a rest! What a great time👍
Yea, that 5x was not having it lol. After switching to 4x, I was able to muscle the fish in. Super fun day. Thanks for watching brother
Great stuff the action was non-stop, the E. Walker never disappoints. It can be tough to get into but not like the McCloud or Pit and without the finicky fish of Hat Creek. These fish are generally where you expect and you can eventually figure out what they want.
Opening week, they took anything and everything haha. Went back beginning of June and it was night and day.
Sounds like you might have too much line/backing on ur reel? Loose tight loose..
I've had that reel for 6 years now and use it the most. Maybe its ready to retire haha. I don't have much backing on it. I thought maybe it was from the cold. One second it would free spool, then the next it would work fine. I've fished 4 or 5 days since the day in this video and it's worked fine. It's a mystery to me
