Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Late Spring - Free Form Fly Fisher
I fished this river during the opener, which was the last Saturday in April (go check out that video named "The Day After Fishmas" if you haven't already) and the fish would eat anything that drifted by. Fast forward 5 weeks, and they got super picky. When that one fish rose after my bobber floated by and another came up to look at my bobber, I knew what time it was. It's so fun watching them rise at your fly. I missed a lot but it's probably because I don't do a ton of dry fly fishing. If you have any dry fly tips for me, let me know in the comments.
I hope you all enjoyed this video. See ya next time. Take it easy 🤙🏽

Hey guys, this trip got a little crazy, to say the least. Hiking thru thick brush, steep terrain, bushwhacking, climbing rocks, I haven't had a fishing trip quite like this one. When I said I might be camping for the night, I really thought that I was going to have to. All I could think about was the show Man vs. Wild and how Bear Grylls would say "you have to keep moving if you want to get out...

Incredibly fun day. There were fish EVERYWHERE. Couldn't fit all the fish in one video haha. We literally fished the top section of the river the whole time. I mentioned it a few times in the video but most of these fish were planters from the lake that got flushed through the dam last year, when we had record rain and snow fall. Healthy fish though. Some of them had fins that were a little bea...

Talk about an overwhelming feeling of joy. I was definitely not expecting to have a day like this. The flows had been really high recently and I thought the fish would have been pushed down stream. Lucky for me, they stayed home and came out to play. I doubt that I'll be posting as many videos like I did in recent years. With the deeper runs being so far apart on this river, I had a feeling the bigger fish stayed put. I was able to hook and land 1 of the 2 that I had lost in my last video. It was well worth the second trip. I explored much further up stream this time. I'm curious to find what's past that the next time I go. Thank you all for watching. More videos coming soon.

What's up everyone. Thank you all for tunning in. This was a rough one. Don't get me wrong, I still had a blast exploring this "new to me" section of the river, but man oh man, losing those two browns , especially that last one, was brutal. I found this water two years ago and only fished it two or three times. It fished okay. It had smaller fish in it and usually I would catch one per run, if that. Hit by a truck while riding my bicycle - honestly I'm lucky I'm not dead! He just clipped my arm right above the elbow joint line and it dislocated from the force of the impact... A few inches further over and I'd have been ground up under the wheels. Yesterday evening I went to the Russian River Flycasters' free casting clinic in Santa Rosa and discovered I have enough function back now to kinda strip a little line in/out now - it's a start. I mainly fish the Truckee between Truckee and Reno, and wading there is dangerous and challenging even when it finally gets below 700 CFM, so I'll need to be able to manage a wading staff in that hand... considering my non-dominant side was injured, and I'm not dead or a piece of produce, I have to feel pretty grateful! Hoping to be healthy enough to go catch some big cutthroats at Pyramid this winter! Anyway, your content is really high level re the cinematography... Keep up the killer work!

I use a 10ft 4wt rod. Line is WF4F. I've been using Lightning Strike Ball Indicators for years. I've tried others but I think these are the best for me. Oros makes a decent one as well. Just pricey. With the LS ones, just buy a pack of tooth picks. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Great stuff the action was non-stop, the E. Walker never disappoints. It can be tough to get into but not like the McCloud or Pit and without the finicky fish of Hat Creek. These fish are generally where you expect and you can eventually figure out what they want.

Opening week, they took anything and everything haha. Went back beginning of June and it was night and day.

My friend asked "what is that?" I said "that's moisture forming because the ambient temperature is colder than the water" haha. I was pretty cool to see it float by. Thanks for watching Eduardo 🤙🏾

I come back from a trip and Free Form Fly Fisher has uploaded! It’s a good day… I broke my reel too on that trip when some salt water came in and rusted the mechanisms. At least your reel can reel-mine can’t reel or dispenses line 😂

Man that was frustrating haha. I still don't know what made it do that cause I've fished a couple times since and it didn't do it. My only guess is that it was semi frozen. That salt is no joke. Hopefully you're able to take it apart and fix it. Can we expect a video of that trip?

@@FreeFormFlyFisher There will be a video of that trip soon (if I can get around to editing it). It was really fun and thankfully I was able to land some fish in both saltwater and fresh water. I’ll probably just buy a cheap Maxcatch reel to use until I can get a more expensive one. The only issue with those is that they have an open spool so any drop of saltwater, no matter how much washing with fresh water you give it, will completely ruin it.

Hell yeah this got me stoked. I've been dealing with too high water the last few times I've been out

I hear ya. Thankfully the flows here were fishable. Lots of places I want to go and can't because of high flows. If you decide to go to this particular river, the fish are A LOT more picky now because of pressure.

The first half, I was lamenting the fish that were breaking you off or slipping off, but man the second half... Those big bows man... Can't believe you caught that one without setting the hook (I have accidental hook ups all the time too) on such a tiny fly. I get having to take a break... Adrenaline like that needs to be followed by a rest! What a great time👍

Yea, that 5x was not having it lol. After switching to 4x, I was able to muscle the fish in. Super fun day. Thanks for watching brother

Time to get yourself a hardy perfect reel so you won’t have a drag issue plus there are a lot fun to fish with anyway. Great video cheers.

I would love to have a reel like that but it might be a while before I can talk myself into dishing out that kind of money haha. I'm sure it'll last a few life times. Thank you 🍻

One of the few good places left to fish is that Bridgeport Reservoir Outflow in the winter, in the Spring and Summer it is a total zoo now like Hot Creek. You need to pickup one of those inexpensive PISCIFUN reels as a backup😉.

The crowds there are unreal now. I need to try the Nevada side haha A back up Piscifun reel isn't a bad idea. Might even become my main reel haha.
