      Love the video! I do think some of the things though, where just legitimate jokes. Some of them I definitely wouldn't have been upset if my parents made them, like how saying that one of the child is difficult. 7:20
      I honestly would have just thought it was funny. Especially depending on how old the children are, when they find the video they could just realize it was a joke...? I was a really difficult kid, and I would have found it funny.
      I do think it is important for us to be able to joke about some stuff like that. It makes it easier to deal with the stress revolving around difficult kid, if you joke about it. Pretty typical for humans to use humor, when something is difficult. But they did say a lot of really misogynistic messed-up stuff.

      Even back in the day when almost all men were sexists, and egalitarian men were regarded as kind of oddball, a man who was a genuine misogynist, who spent a lot of time creeping on women and talking about how dangerous they were and how men had to watch out or women would enslave them, was regarded as kind of a freak by his peers, and someone to make fun of. The weirdness and stigma around c-section kids is honestly astounding. It's a baby, it doesn't matter how it comes out, if that kid is difficult then it's on you. Also, do these people realise that some people genuinely can't give natural birth? My mom almost died trying to give natural birth to my sister and had to have an emergency c-section. It literally does not matter how you give birth. Every situation is different, and as long as everyone is safe, that's all that matters.

    I would watch a video on Oldest Daughter syndrome. As the oldest child I would like to see if anything lines up. I wasn’t necessarily forced into the manager role by my parents, it was circumstantial. They worked a lot and even though there were other adults around, it was the other adults that more “forced” me into it.

      Same like they didn’t really want me to parent my sister but it just fell on shoulders and if I ever complained abt it they would just say that I took that responsibility on my own when I really didn’t. It kinda fucked me up and honestly I’ve done enough parenting for my life time so definitely not gonna have kids.

However, I feel like a part of her regrets having me, because she wanted me to turn out exactly like her while I am exactly the opposite. Re: the oldest daughter syndrome, I see this lot when working in preschool/school. Sometimes boys do it, but it's especially common for girls to micromanage the other kids and try to tell the teachers that x is doing so and so and y is doing so and so and breaking rules. I always worry when this seems to be a constant thing they do. I try to tell them gently that they don't have to worry about other kids and that us teachers will take care of it but it's probably going to take more than that to fix it.

    I really hate the "older sister syndrome" name for this phenomenon. As a middle sibling and as a transmasc, I was the one put in charge of things… because my older sister just. Did not. Take care of our younger sibling. I was the one helping. I was treated as some type of second parent for him-and I was treated like a girl, but that is not who I was or am. It was parentification.

  • @ellicurus
    @ellicurus Год назад +6

    I think these videos broadcast the main theme that’s being missed, that as a parent you’ve gotta be able to step back and admit what you need to do better in order to be a good parent to good kids. Both my kids are c-sections and gentle parenting works bc we make it work. The only reason gentle parenting “doesn’t work” is bc the parents aren’t willing to think about or admit why THEY’RE having a hard time with it, not the kids. I promise you, kids will imitate and respond to what they’re given. If they’re treated with care and respect, they will emulate that in the ways that they’re able to. If you take the time to talk to and teach them about how our emotions and needs affect ourselves and others instead of just barking orders like “be quiet” and “stop crying” then I swear on everything they will be able to handle being told no. Are they going to want a reason for the no? YES!! So have one and tell it to them!!

    That one about the oldest daughter really made me mad cuz I had to watch and feel the negative effects of my older sibling be forced to be the manager of me so often that it nearly ruined any chance of us having a healthy relationship. I also saw the way they stressed over things to make the house run better while our mom worked a lot (our mom tried not to make them responsible but other family members ended up just doing it anyway). They're only that way because they are often forced into that role by their families. Ugh I can't stand men like him who make the problems women/femmes have to deal with, then turn around and blame us!
