Wonderful video. Rainy is an amazing mandolin player. So much skill and poise for a 21-year-old. It's pretty stunning.

So cool to hear a Brentrup being played...and so incredibly well! I own Hans' third mandolin. Back then he called his F5 an M23. I think he built those until sometime around 2004 when he got a Loar for several months and was really able to spend some time reverse engineering it. At that point he redesigned his builds to make them more of a Loar copy and would sell them as the "Poor Man's Loar" (PML), though they were still several thousand dollars. My 1999 M23 is somewhat dark with an extremely strong mid-range and loads of volume though I'd say it's somewhat weaker in the treblier ranges, which is actually a good deal different from a typical Gibson F5 sound profile. I've never got a chance to play any of PML builds but that one sounds terrific, though I have a feeling Rainy could make any mandolin sound like a world beater:) I knew from some scuttlebutt on the Cafe that he was in poor health but didn't know he had passed. He also was known in the guitar community for specializing in building world-class smaller body guitars.
