    Very good video. Thanks for keeping it simple but informative.
    A great lesson on how to practice the octave with your root notes on the fingerboard. I am learning the fingerboard much easier now that I have incorporated this technique.

    Dude, this just unlocked the mandolin fretboard for me! I've known of the closed-position scale for a while, but for some reason, this presentation just clicked with me. I no longer have The Fear when someone calls a tune in a non-standard key. Thanks so much!

    A fine look at the mandolin octave Thom and just what I needed as I start this journey. I’m a bit surprised many more haven’t commented as you’ve packed quite a lot of very useful information into this lesson. Theory is too much for some, perhaps.
