I love that Japan is blessing us with all of this talent. I think we'll see a lot more amazing japanese players in MLB in the coming years. Love Suzuki and Imanaga on the Cubs!
It really is, it's crazy because if you look at it every place like the US has specific sports there known for, Brazil mma, motocross, Europeans kinda now, boxing us and UK basketball euros and us but alot always end up here for our enjoyment we truly are blessed to live in this country.
I'm a Japanese baseball fan. Truth be told, I didn't anticipate that Shota would demonstrate such amazing performances from the beginning in MLB! I love him because of his cool but passionate pitching. Go, go, Shota!!
Imanaga's former team plays at Yokohama Stadium, a roofless stadium a few hundred meters from Yokohama's port, so very windy and quite cold in April/November. On another note, it's also one of the smallest stadiums in NPB, so Shota's numbers were actually quite inflated due to the park's dimensions and low fence (HRs flying right, left and center literally).
As a Cubs fan, I think he’ll be better than Yamamoto this year and maybe next but Yamamoto is still so young. Also Roki Sasaki is gonna be the best of all three. My hope is that Seiya and Shota perform so well that when Sasaki is posted he’ll want to go to the cubs to join the lineage.
Nah, Yamamoto has a lot of target on his back that’s why his ERA is higher but base on pitch types Yamamoto is clearly the better pitcher. If Yamamoto gets better with his command you’ll see a complete game from him soon. It’s too early to judge pitchers they need at least 10 games imo.
The main difference so far is Yamamoto hasn't had the command that he usually had in Japan, while Shota for the most part has showed his control. If you look at pure stuff, Yamamoto's stuff is better for sure. If he gets his control back he'll do better than Imanaga.
0.98 now after beating Boston on 4/26. Also, 4-0 in five starts with an 0.8 WHIP and 28 strikeouts. May also be the most emotion I’ve seen from a Japanese player, unless I’m forgetting someone, which I’m surely doing. But love seeing him amped up after a K and being pumped-up to end an inning.
Godsend for the cubs after loosing steele on opening day. I know he’ll naturally regress after hitters get more familiar with him. But he’s doing a great job to start the year while our 5th place cy young pitcher recovers
The big difference between Imanaga and Yamamoto is that Imanaga was able to adapt himself to MLB quicker than Yamamoto. Particularly, to the slippery American baseball. Also, in WBC, he pitched for the final and he did an excellent job and I knew then, he would do very well in MLB. I can see Samurai spirit in Imanaga. On a very cold day when all the players were wearing long sleeve shirts, he wore a short sleeve uniform and he didn't seem to be bothered by the cold temp. He behaved like just another day. He's got a tough mentality and I think it will carry him deep into the season.
Shotas older and more experienced for sure. My only concern is once mlb hitters adjust, will we see his HR problem? It was a weakness of shota’s in japan.
@@ciello___8307His homerun problem was mostly because of breaking balls over the heart of the plate and fastball down middle. Now that he has been taught how effective his high spin rate fastball is above the belt, he'll be leaning more on improving that. If he masters that pitch and can pitch it "Cross fire" to RHB he's gonna get a lot of called strikes. He can even challenge them in the zone with it and get them to fly out. Plus he has his splitter/change-up too.
@@abcdeeer I really think he is the real life version of Eijun Sawamura because of the spin on his fastball which causes some late movement to the plate, also he does not throw hard but can locate well. Now if only he would develop a two-seater and a cutter too.
Yamamoto will be struggling more than Shota look at Imanaga he controls himself he prepares and is more calm while Yamamoto struggles and doesn't get through 3 innings and gets bases loaded multiple times
Shota is very good at adjusting and changing his approach for every situation. So even if they get more data, he will get around them and confuse them even more. After all he is a pitching philosopher.
He certainly wasn't Japan's creme de la creme....what a bargain! He wasn't even the Sawamura award winner (Cy Young equivalent) in Japan. Was a respected pitcher, yes, but from the Baystars - one of the shittiest and unmotivated teams in the Central league, and yet he's destroying the MLB!
I mean, cool. But whiffing one of those teams - Mariners - is akin to beating up someone who's blind, has no arms or legs, and suffers from brain damage. Not exactly impressive.
I love that Japan is blessing us with all of this talent. I think we'll see a lot more amazing japanese players in MLB in the coming years. Love Suzuki and Imanaga on the Cubs!

Everyone knows WW3 is coming. MLS is having the same luck right now. Everyone is coming here to survive.
It's a shame Roki Sasaki can't be in the MLB yet. He will be fun to watch.
so refreshing to see a pitcher doing well without relying on crazy velocity.
miss 2019 Ryu
93-95 is not lower velocity, that's gas over 9 innings

Imanaga coming from playing in domes in Japan & he’s out at cold Wrigley with NO SLEEVES while everyone is bundled up. He’s a dawg!! 😂

On another note, it's also one of the smallest stadiums in NPB, so Shota's numbers were actually quite inflated due to the park's dimensions and low fence (HRs flying right, left and center literally).
No surprise at all, he was the ace pitcher at WBC and Cubs got the ace & best batter Seiya of Samurai Japan 👍
Saw him in strong training. What a pleasure to watch pitch, he actually pitches and moves the ball around and sets up his next pitch. It’s nice to see
He looks so casual almost like he’s always knew he was going to be this good 😂
he's been 'good 'for a decade now....
yet he is a poor man's Masaichi Kaneda or Atsushi Aramaki
Isn't he short too for a MLB pitcher? This gives me hope for my kid who will probably end up around that height
I think Seiya hits at least 25 hrs this year and really arrives on the scene as one of the top tier RFs in MLB
Roki Sasaki is going to wreck MLB. Cant wait for him to come
You cant be serious comparing him to Yamamoto…just 3 games in, give it time
The main difference so far is Yamamoto hasn't had the command that he usually had in Japan, while Shota for the most part has showed his control. If you look at pure stuff, Yamamoto's stuff is better for sure. If he gets his control back he'll do better than Imanaga.
Go Cubs Go
Never go to far, it's ok to dream🚬
Shota and Seiya, Japanese represent for the Cubs!!
Shota is awesome!!!!!We're gonna need him more!!!!!
3 games in the MLB and ERA is still 0.00. That's crazy.
Excellent observation
it is 0.84 now
can you explain in basketball terms pls
0.98 now after beating Boston on 4/26. Also, 4-0 in five starts with an 0.8 WHIP and 28 strikeouts.

I like how hyped he gets 😂
Shotttttaaaaa!!! Dude is Amazing. I have made so much money betting on him. Under and Cubs all day baby!!!!
Japan's best left-hander Shōta Imanaga He is playing great pitching in the Major League Baseball right now
今永まじで楽しみ!
Cubs looking good!
Not really couple players are carrying
It's always early in the game of fools gold😂
This is the same team that lost to the Padres with an 8 run lead 😂
That fastball up in the zone is tough to hit so far
It's because it is a high spin fastball so hitters are having a problem squaring it up.
Shota on top 🔝
Japan's best left-hander Shōta Imanaga
lol
he is a poor man's Masaichi Kaneda or Atsushi Aramaki
That's what Kei-Igawa was told too
he is brilliant!!
The Japanese are such an efficient culture they produce human cyborgs like this 😭
I'm so high I thought all of this was the same game.
Atsushi Aramaki had the good kine pakalolo
I like how he wanted more in the end
Godsend for the cubs after loosing steele on opening day. I know he’ll naturally regress after hitters get more familiar with him. But he’s doing a great job to start the year while our 5th place cy young pitcher recovers

Cubs got a big pitcher this year.
Right. The chief executives did a great job for Cubs!!
Don't say anything bad about Yamamoto. Wait at least a year
great use of $325million..
@@armuklet see where the dodgers n cubs ended up in their division lmao…dodgers is a shoo in for post season
There are still many great pitchers in Japan. Everyone, please look forward to it. I am looking forward to it too.
Honestly, I even haven't expected he had been active so much. It's so great to see him as ace of MLB🔥🔥🔥
Go shota!!
Asa Red Sox fan this was one guy I was big on this off season and really wanted him in the rotation
今永先生2勝目おめでとう!余談ですがベイはエグい負け方しました😊 byベイファン

Oh yeah! Baseball is really cool! 😊😊
Mastered the art of pitching
山本より今永を応援してしまう
He's the real deal!
Didn’t know he’s from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka.
Kyushu gang rise up!
Fukudome, Johjima, Kawasaki, Taguchi, Irabu, Aoki, all from Kyushu
Awesome player!!
At a bargain compared to what the Dodgers paid Yamamoto.
Future HOFer and future 10 time Cy young winner king SHOTA
Let's not jinx him
In a couple of weeks you'll be crying differently if he does otherwise. Keep it genuine man
I assume it sarcasm
Hes doing well. Always a pleasure to see him pitch. Just not against your favorite team. 😊
Japan's best left-hander Shōta Imanaga is looking forward to what kind of record he will set
I'm a fan
If top teams eventually become LAD and Cubs? That would be must see TV in Japan.
Reportedly they’ll open the season in Tokyo next year.
Absolute bargain!!!!
Never seen this many talents from Japan at the same time. Might as well just start drafting from Japanese high schools.
the change is sharp, making it difficult to hit and catch.
probably, it is also hard to know when the ball is released. (imho)
Lights out!
Shoto Shota
0:53 one of the most obvious frame jobs I’ve seen in a while
Wanted the Cardinals to get this guy
Even more upset that the Sox didn’t sign him now
The league is gonna catch up and I'll be happy if he can finish sub 4 era
Hey Chicago, what do you say?
He always looks like he just woke up from bed😭please give him an undershirt with a smaller collar
Yamamoto will be struggling more than Shota look at Imanaga he controls himself he prepares and is more calm while Yamamoto struggles and doesn't get through 3 innings and gets bases loaded multiple times
Glad you are not a mlb GM…3 games in and that’s the final verdict…you woukd wrote off greg maddux back in the day too
MLB, phrasing!!!
I was at the game
He is worth it than yamamoto you can feel the presence of ace
sawamura eijun 🎉🎉
I'm a Cubs fan but everyone relax, wait till the league acquires more data on him
true yet pretty impressive so far

far better than yamamoto i think dodgers are already regretting not signing him instead
yamamoto didnt win 3 mvps in japan league just by luck. some people take more time to adapt than others. wait and see
Blackburn doing the same thing plus he on the A’s but gets no love
shota shotgun imanaga
excited for the jomboy
Shotu Imangano that's it right there baby.
well play!!
Better than Yamamoto
so far yes
100% agree
If Ohtani and Yamamoto are called Batman and Robin, what are Suzuki and Imanaga?
Katana & Halo
