April 8/2013. That was Nathan's 300th save. He had given up a run to that point in the 9th and the tying run was at 2nd. Longoria was on deck. Frustrating to watch in the wee hours.
@@Texasguy316 To you maybe, but not me. With the personnel available and the technology, and rules that would demand in game accountability of the umpire) it would easily be achievable IMO
Whenever Angel Hernandez is behind the plate and you're got 2 strikes, you know the next pitch is going to be a strike no matter where it is. He just likes to call strike 3 so he can look cool.
Unsurprisingly, alot of Angel Hernandez calls there. And he wonders why his discrimination lawsuit, which he filed because he hasn't been assigned to a World Series in a while, was dismissed.
Always think about that. He should have been embarrassed that the league argued he was to incompetent to work the post season. He has no shame over how bad he is.
I pitched a lot and you don't want to telegraph your delight with the generous strike zone or else the ump might retaliate by calling some balls that are hitting the strike zone - kind of like how umps call strikes against batters showing them up at the plate.
I don’t know why the umpire can’t see the catcher framing the pitch, when he moves his glove 18”. That should tell them right then, it was out of the strike zone.
Every time an ump gives the "toss" gesture to a player after they react to a bad call, I always want to see the player make the "toss" gesture right back at them lol.
Note how many of the $hit calls are from Hernandez. Horrible umpire. Also note the number of times an umpire rings up a player is with the count full and the player knows it is a ball and starts heading to first. It's like the umpire does not want you to be calling the balls and strikes so he will call you out if you start heading to first.
As an umpire, it's very easy to judge balls and strikes from your couch on your TV, when youre judging if 99 is an inch or not off the plate, sometimes you're going to miss calls
My question is, if we are capable of mapping whether a pitch is a strike or ball in real time like they do in these videos. Why even rely on an umpire that brings in such a high margin of error?
With all the technical stuff they have to mark where in the strike zone a pitch goes in real time, why in the hell are they still letting a person make these calls? Why do that?
Umpires back there: “Goddam, baseball is so boring… I wonder if I look cool on TV.. oh shoot, did I forget to turn the stove off?? Wait, I don’t have a stove… oh dang, haven’t called a strike in a few minutes-HYAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! There we go, I’m totally making a difference”
BAFFLING. If you argue against a wrong call, you also get tossed out of the game! If that isn't the most oppressive regime, then I don't know what is. For once I'd like to see a batter actually toss an umpire out of the game lol.
I was at the ranger game against Tampa and half the stadium was going nuts and the other half went “WHHHHAT?!” That will never not be the worst third strike call to end a game. Even as a ranger fan I can objectively say how horrible that call was.
what a badass move to have a horrible strike out call and just turn and walk to the dugout, composure in the face of bullshit, late new years resolution for me
The reason why there’s no accountability for umpires is because if they just started sending them down based on performance, there’d be none left in the majors😂
I understand hitting the box but ones that aren't even near that box is crazy and the batters have all tge right to get angry even the pitchers when it's clearley in the strike zone.
It’s simple. See ball hit ball. You’re only going to get one good pitch per AB. When a hitter has 2 on ‘em, you have to shorten up and protect. Don’t leave strike 3 up to ‘Blue’. Most, but not all, of the called 3rd strike looking, were close enough for the hitter to make an attempt. And, a lot of nobody’s begging for calls. As a hitter and pitcher, you’d better have proven you deserve the corners. Unless Angel Hernandez is behind the plate. Then, protect your ass.
I think it’s hilarious how Angel Hernandez sues because he thinks it’s because of his race that he’s not getting promoted. MLB won’t tell him that it’s because he’s the worst umpire ever
It is a hard job... The umpire dont have a visual box or a slow motion replay ... Sure they are some weird strike calls but see it that way ... If you see like 300 pitches in one game and you miss 3 calls your calls were right 99% of the time ... Angel Hernandez is an extreme
Any video with this title that does not include Livan Hernandez in the 1997 world series is misnamed. He was getting calls that were half a foot off the plate.
I get missing tight calls, we're all human and the catcher is usually in the way on purpose but when you miss a call so bad that the announcer AND the SCOREBOARD changes to your call, you can just say "oh god my bad lets get a replay please"
I started counting how many of these were Angel Hernandez, but I got tired of counting.
i think i counted 10
Buckner & angel made up about 3/4 of the video lol
Most of these were not angel hernandez, though
Meanwhile angel thinks it’s a racial issue he can’t call World Series games, bc he doesn’t even know where the strike zone is
Oh you were counting...? That's it, you're gone!!

Baseball could use a version of VAR used in soccer. A 2nd home plate ump could overrule the active ump to prevent these kind of bad calls.
I bet Ohtani said, "You better give me that pitch".
the technology is here to call balls & strikes with much greater accuracy then humans. 99.4% accuracy. Just MLB refuses to use it. 😢
