  • With the popularity of hiking in Scotland constantly growing, it can be a rare occassion when you get an entire mountain to yourself. This day was one of those occassions when it was fantastic to lose yourself in the Scottish Highlands.

That was cool how the clouds rolled in.

When I set up the shot the view was wide and far, but by the time I walked back it already started changing!

Enjoyable video Alastair, proving that it’s not all about Munro’s, probably take a break from them myself over the winter and concentrate more on the Corbetts. Take care mate,
    Steven 😊👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thank you Steven. We both enjoy taking in the other mountains, especially when we’re recovering from injuries, are strapped for time, or the conditions just aren’t that great elsewhere.

Really enjoyed this one Alistdair as it has given me another option for a short winter walk with my dog. Really good to see you enjoying it and smiling again and appreciating the hills. Take care mate and I look forward to seeing you in the next one.

Thank you! Definitely a good one to tackle in winter time, and maybe even better with a wee bit of snow too!

@@HighlandHikers where would be the best place to park the car for this one Alistdair?

Another great watch Alistair. I've been meaning to get out on these hills, thanks for the inspiration :)

Thanks Calum. There’s quite a few in the area, which appear to be of varying difficulty. I suspect we will be tackling a few of them over winter.

Good wee review Alistair. Spookily did Benvane just a few weeks ago and would agree both in terms of bog and a quiet place to ramble. Pity the weather didn’t hold up for you, views are really good in all directions. Appreciate these videos, being a novice it gives me a sense where I test myself v park for the experienced walker.

Thanks Colin, glad you enjoyed it! Was the end of last month when I was there. Was great just getting away from it all and enjoying the peace and quiet! I’m not sure I would class myself as an experienced hiker, more like a fair weather hiker for now but looking to expand my experience a bit more.

    Another enjoyable watch, sir.
Had a few wee boggy encounters up Beinn Challum, on Sunday, thankfully my effort was rewarded with clear views at the top.
    Cheers 🥃

I remember it being a bit damp after the initial climb, but I think the top holds a decent amount of character to make the bog snorkelling worth it on that one!

Nice one Alistair 😍👍..Was looking at this one for a camp on my Ebike going to Stuc Dhudh first from Finglas then up to Vane..Good track up to Dhudh..Might be a bogfest to Vane from there😂..Great video..Enjoy your channel.
    Cheers

@@HighlandHikers It’ll be from Finglas side mate.I looked at on Google Earth and the Land Rover track seems to go right up to Stuc Dhudh…It also looks a good track on Fat Maps 😁..They always look good on the maps 😂..Might do a recce up there first 😁

The path that runs along the side of Glen Finglas Reservoir is pretty decent, easily traversed on a bike. I’ve walked all the by the reservoir in the past. I can’t say I remember the tracks off of it though. Good luck with it!

@@HighlandHikers Cheers Alistair..I’ll cut off right up Glen Casaig about halfway along the Finglas Reservoir then follow the track up to Stuc Dhudh😁..Then over to Vane 🤞🏻..Fancy doing the Finglas loop as well and camping at the highest point😁..Glad to see you back up enjoying the hills 😁.

Beinn Each translates to "horse mountain" in Scottish Gaelic if I'm not mistaken

Interesting name! Maybe wild horses once roamed there, or people kept them in that area?

Hi Alistair, great to see you full of the joys of impending winter! haha
I had a very boggy walk in the Lake District the other week. There was a couple of very close shaves, where I could have ended up to my waist in bog!
Thanks so much for sharing your days adventure with us. All the best, Dave

Thanks Dave! That sounds more like a swim than a walk! The worst we have experienced was at Ben Lui, which was thigh deep in places. Had to sit on a bin bag for some of the way home that day 😂

At over 800m tall I’m happy to call it a mountain. What would you say the cut off is between hill and mountain?
