Contrary to popular opinion, shrimp and the smaller variety of by product follow a one year cycle. They are extremely prolific and feed most of the creatures in the Gulf of Mexico. Their annual amounts do not depend on food available, but rather the sea water conditions, such as temperature and salinity. Actually, areas that are trawled each year produce more seafood for people and all the other sea creatures than any other area. Think of it as cultivating or plowing a field before growth occurs. Stagnant plant growth is eliminated and prevented. If this were not true, shrimp and fish would go elsewhere as the area was exploited. The more an area is worked, the more it produces, and the healthier marine life is. Those that don't agree don't have any experience with the sea. In fact, most would not believe the amounts of life in the sea, or the life expectancy of any seafood if damaged in any way. On land, the amount of life depends on how much of it is eaten. In the sea, the amount of life depends on how much of it manages to survive. ... and tons of it doesn't, but is replaced by massive yearly over production. Not trawling an area causes the quantity of seafood to return to the maximum levels in a single year. After that, not trawling an area causes the levels of seafood production to fall considerably. I admire the people attempting to save the earth, I just wish they knew what they were doing. Our biggest single problem with this changing world that we depend on to survive isn't exploitation, it's pollution and poisonous by product. Do some checking. Or, better yet, go see for yourself.

Those Native Americans that stayed near the coast were living large. Imagine how rich the oceans were before the big boats started killing it. Shrimp, crabs, oysters, lobsters, fish, ducks, turtle soup. They were catching a tan on the beach while sippin coconut milk.
