I was homeschooled 4th - 12th grade. I had a speech impediment. A few months ago, somebody told me i still have a speech impediment at an outing. We didn't even know each other really. I was hanging out with my coworkers at a pool, and I just figured I would introduce myself to my coworkers' friend (she used to work where I was working). The first thing she said to me was that I sounded weird (I was probably just having bad luck that month, as it was Febuwary [which I can't pronounce without sending shivers down my spine] ). I told her that I must be lucky because, unlike her, I sound weird instead of looking weird. Mysteriously, that was the last time I talked to her.
I’m born in February. Guess how awkward telling people my birthday is? Also, it wasn’t until like grade 5 until I learned that “February” isn’t spelled “Febuary”.
I got A LOT better at the end of high school and the beginning of college. I am now graduating and I barely can carry a conversation without having excessive issues.... I feel very embarrassed at work because I’m working under an engineer. It sucks feeling like an idiot, even though I understand what I’m doing. Thanks for the video. I’m going to try to work on this the best I can.
Hi my name is Liliana Ilayian). I am 20 years old. Here is my story. I was born with a speech problem.I used to have trouble speaking and talking. I also use to stutter. Stuttering means talking and repeating your self a lot. It was very hard for me to speak and to read out loud during school projects. When you stutter it can take a very long time to finish what you are trying to say. I stuttered until I was in 6th grade. My voice was still different then other kids and I couldn’t say certain words right. I was bullied and people made fun of me since I was a little kid. I always had to deal with kids asking me why do I talk differently. Due to kids treating me different, I was very shy. I didn’t want to hear my voice as it made me feel.... As I growed up I become a strong person. Being different can be cool and I’m proud to be me
I just came to the realization that I possibly have a speech impediment (for sure something wrong with how I speak), due to realizing that I was pulled out of class for what I know realize was MOST PROBABLY speech therapy. And they never told my mom that they thought I had one, so we never knew what that was until I realized it today. And started searching to see if I show symptoms of speech impediments hence how I found this video. Which now knowing things makes sense, I do have a mild stammer, and I have a lot of difficulties pronouncing things correctly. I hear the word in my head, and can hear how it is pronounced, then I just sit there...unable to say the words, and stew in my own misery. (Younger me always described it as "I have dyslexia just for speaking instead of reading") I possibly have improved on it, and now no one really comments on how I missay words but, its a thing that I now fully realize. It feels semi-good to have some form of explanation as to why I talk weird.
This relates to me.. How did you improve. What steps did u take? I am really tired of being mocked and depressed over this. Funny I thought I had dyslexia for speech but it turns out its a speech impediment 😔
I’m 16 years old and have a speech impediment. Because people ( mainly boys idk why ) used to bully me so much that it’s one of my biggest insecurity and because of that I have really bad social anxiety
OMG! I remember watching your videos on your old channel! I think I was in high school back then. I loved them and I wondered what happened to you. Glad to see you're doing well! It's so cool that you uploaded a video update. 👍
Hi! I have a name and age but I don’t want to share them but all you really need to know is that I still go to speech therapy. I started in preschool not knowing what was wrong with me and getting excited when I got to have the “meetings” and talk about animals. In kindergarten I knew it was something about my THs. (I grew out of those and started to work on my Rs and still am) It was only until first or second grade that people kept on asking me what my accent is because they always thought I was British.(I have an American English accent but that is what most people around me have). I would kept on laughing it off and telling them I don’t have an accent. I knew I went to what was called “speech” because I couldn’t say things correctly but I didn’t really think that helped and only taught me bad habits like clenching my jaw when I say my Rs. I always got excited when I got to leave when everyone would have to work to get to play games and have gummy bears and thought I was “cool”. In middle school I sounded more different because everyone grew out of their “little kid voice” while I still sounded like a 10 year old. That’s also when people started to ask me to say random words, sometimes not even related to my Rs like aluminum, water bottle, wall, etc. (mostly “british” words). Later on I found out what it meant, there were people just like me, and it wasn’t normal. I was always afraid of people not liking the people just like me voice because I knew I sounded just like that. I also thought it was normal and everyone did it when they were little and just grew out of it because my little brother did it for like 2 years. I’m so glad my parents found out at a young age I had a speech impediment and started as soon as possible. I also joke around with my friends how I’m a “british old lady” and only sometimes I will have to spell out words for my friends to understand me. I’m still working on my Rs tho. If you read this until the end, you’re beautiful and have a nice day
Other little small details -I also couldn’t hear myself say them wrong -I have hard times with voice activated things like Alexa’s, googles, Siri’s, etc -words with Ls and Os with Rs are the hardest to say (world is a hard word) - there are multiple POLITE ways to tell someone that you can’t understand them and saying “huh?” Over and over again is not one of them and wants to make the person give up, try “I can’t understand you can you say it in a different way?” I alway try to spell it or give an example after that Thank you
@@l3monrose934 I found out I had a speech impediment at 16 after I recorded my voice out of curiosity. Literally NO ONE around me ever told me I sounded different, so I just assumed I spoke normally. Looking back, it makes sense why teachers would never pick on me to read from the textbook lol
@@yorha.a2 I thought I sent a reply already, huh, it must of not sent through, but I don’t know about you but I would be hurt and sad and mad at the same time. I also wouldn’t have known unless someone told me they too. Also when you would talk did people understand you??
thanks for the video, I plan on sorta becoming a voice actor, and this was helpful in identifying whether I have a speech impediment. The result is... I don't know, maybe? I'd like to work on my diction anyway. Thank ya!

I have a speech impediment also and cannot pronounce my r's. I'm thinking about going to a speech therapist to try to fix the problem as I'm 37 now. What do you think
I think if you are in a good position in life, and really want it then I would go for it. I'll be honest, speech therapy is VERY stressful. I remember just repeating the same sound over and over for 20 minutes. it sounded right to me but not to my therapist. my sister is 26 and has and impediment and it hasn't seemed to hold her back at all so maybe not. totally up to you
I had a speech impediment and theirs still very few words I can say like about 3 I can recall so not many but my entire life I used to say words wrong but I didn’t know I was but when I ended up watching old video years later it hit me then I began not saying words with r’s so my speech got worse but I can say any word now because I began practicing with my mom and it was easy I could figure out how to say a word within 20 seconds of saying it. I got speech growing up but I thought I was saying everything right and their was no point so yeah I stopped. I did see some improvement in 1 year of doing it which was the last year I did it my speech teachers were really good at the time. I’m still insecure and still don’t pronounce some words even though I can say then right because I have the thought that I might say it wrong.
It sounds like you have difficulty with your L’s. At the beginning of your video it sounds like you say “ode” instead of ‘old’ and “poh’d” instead of “pulled.” But then other words with L’s in them like “slide” the L is pronounced. Could just be an issue with certain words. My mother says “un-ness” instead of “unless” and “samridge” instead of “sandwich.” But otherwise I don’t hear any other difficulties with words or letters.
Having a speech impediment sucks big time. It really messes with your confidence for sure
