There's one card that's not budget...that I would use to upgrade... Lifegift from original Kamigawa block, says: whenever a land enters the battlefield, you gain 1 life. It works whevere ANYONE plays a land...you, AND your opponents.
One to try is Weather the Storm. It's an instant that gains you 3 life with Storm, copying itself for each time another spell has been cast that turn. I built a pauper deck around this mechanic and it's actually brutal. Most of the pieces you want are already commons, so it works out great.
I mean ... how much storm do you realistically produce with Golgari? 3, 4? Maybe 5? So its only 5 instances of damage and triggering Dina only 5 times as well. This doesn't sound very powerful tbh. Of course ppl will say they generate 20+ storm constantly I guess. xD
@@Winterhe4rt Well it is an instant, so if you have an opponent, that wants to go off storming, you can use it there. Still agree with you, with only Dana on the board it's not that good. Guess you want to have a Vito there too
Just started playing mtg and choose Dina for building my first deck. I’ve picked a lot of the cards you showed here. Good to know I’m on the right track. ❤️
One budget card that fits perfectly in this deck is Sanguine Bond. 3BB enchantment. Whenever you gain life, target opponent loses that much life. Its budget, though not less than $1 like the other cards, so a reasonable upgrade. Its targeted, but otherwise like an upgrade of the Golden Pig. For a not budget but potentially reasonable upgrade that would become the new Golden Pig is Exquisite Blood. 4B enchantment. Whenever an opponent loses life, you gain that much life. This causes a loop with Dina and similar effects, as gaining life deals damage to an opponent and an opponent losing life makes you gain life, letting you drain your opponents either until death or until someone intervenes with an instant. Really powerful, which is probably why Exquisite Blood is $26+. Thus not really a budget card, though with the rest of the deck being less than $1 it might not be too far outside of your standard budget deck costs to be a "reasonable" upgrade. Not a very fair one though.
One absolute MUST for this deck, but it IS more than $1.00, is a Grim Feast. It DOES do 1 damage to you on each of your upkeep steps, but it gives you life each time an opponent's creature dies equal to the toughness of the creature that died. Not target opponent, EACH opponent, and not target creature, but any and EVERY creature of theirs that dies gives you life. Plus, it's an enchant, so harder to get off the board than a creature.
A cheap infinite combo with this deck would include Life and Limb and Sporemound (at time of posting, together they cost about $0.60). Life and Limb turns all forests and all saporlings into 1/1 green saporlings and forest lands in addition to their other types, and Sporemound makes saporlings as lands hit the board. Couple this with Dina and Jaddi Offshoot and BOOM you win the game.
Something I noticed building this deck. There is alot of enchantment permanents. I know this is budget but some enchantment matters cards would do well here. Still, great deck and very cool to see a budget Dina.
Nexus Wardens from Theros: Beyond Death, 2 and a green for a 1/4 with reach that gives you 2 life whenever an enchantment enters under your control. And it’s super cheap.
I build a budget Dina deck for my brother focusing on all the landfall/lifegain triggers and just landfall good stuff as a sub theme. He played boundless realms and drained the whole table for like 30 health each lol
@@Mister_Tedious prosperuse shopkeeper is great with swarm. Adding Acient GreenWarden is must to landfall triggers. Titania is great If have way to put lands from graveyard. Azusa is great add to. Dark heart of Woods is great add.
I have a Dina Deck and I love the look of my friends' faces and hear their groans when I start gaining life and pinging 1 across the table. There's nothing better than sipping my tea and laughing at their misery🤣
I have been wanting to make a deck around Dina ever since Strixhaven released, thinking of mechanics to build around. And now you've done all the work for me, haha. Just waiting for the cards I need to come in the mail. Thanks, Mitch!
And for the non-budget version: +1 Exquisite Blood Exquisite Blood 4B Enchantment (R) Whenever an opponent loses life, you gain that much life. This creates an infinite kill combo with Dina. As lets say you gain 1 life from somewhere else, Dina causes each opponent to lose 1 life. This creates the a lifeloss trigger. Which in turn causes exquisite blood to create a life gain trigger, and that in turn causes Dina to trigger.
What's cool is with a phrexian alter you'd have an infinite combo with Nether Traitor, Oathsworn Vampire(or another recurrer creature) in hand and Dina and Blight Mound on the field. Heck, because your recurring two creatures would net you four black mana you don't really need Nether Traitor. You could use something like Gutterbones.
Not necessarily budget per say but I would add moldervine reclamation if you are going for more of the death triggers and would add greed for more card draw... amazing deck as always! Almost exactly how I built my Dina. Swapped her out for Beledros Witherbloom once I saved up enough.
Been playing a Dina deck on Untap for a few months, it's bonkers. Surprised you didnt add Staff of the Death and WIld Magus. They trigger on land and spells, doubling up on multicolored spells
Having a Dina deck myself I would like to suggest a few other cards that works well with Dina while fitting the budget: Verdant Haven, Gift of Paradise - while these ramps don't trigger landfall, they still gain you life. They should work better in the deck than talisman. Glimmerpost - another lifegain land Wurm's Tooth, Demon's Horn - similar function to Golem's Heart Nightmare's Thirst - single target removal that gains life, like Essence Pulse Revival Experiment - given the amount of artifacts and enchantments the deck will typically run, it will often bring back 4 permanents (artifact, enchantment, creature, land) directly onto the battlefield
I tried a deck with Dina, but the big issue I saw was that it can quickly become a game of Archenemy Also Roots of Life + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is brutal
My favorite standard deck in Arena is something like this. The Prosperous Innkeeper - Dina - Marauder - Sedgemoor Witch is a fun combo to pull even though it doesn't necessarily do well against most decks in the meta right now. Against the cleric life gain deck, this combo with a maxed Warlock class pulls off surprising upsets.
I built around her without budget restrictions but only using commons and uncommons. As a matter of fact the deck is budget, around 70$. Except for the lack of reliable boardwipes - as those are usually rare - the deck is still quite powerful and really fun to play.
witherbloom precon + upgrades lol .. i built a similar deck for my friend (landfall dina), its super fun. but added things like vito too. the landfall package seems to be the best if working on a budget
If there's a Break the Bank on this, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose should be considered. It has "Whenever you gain life, target opponent loses that much life" It also has for 3BB to give all of your creatures lifelink until end of turn,
Man I remember when Gary first got spoiled way back in og theros and people thought he was meh. Now look at our boy, aristocrat all star and so popular in standard he got reprinted at the uncommon level.
How in the hell is tamiyo’s safekeeping under a dollar? That’s a really great card in general, basically a protective Counterspell in green, and life gain too?
I liked the cards but exquisite blood was missing from that card, what it does is that if an opponent loses life you gain that same amount and since you are going to gain life you will be removing it and so on until you win
And the best part about this deck: if you bought the witherbloom witchcraft deck from last year, you'll already have most of the cards needed for this deck
Could slotting exquisite blood and some tutors in here also help this deck with another win con? As soon as you have exquisite blood you can bring your commander out, play it and then just win the game.
There is an artifact called living artifact. Whenever you lose life you put that many vitality counters on it. Then on your upkeep you can remove a counter to gain 1 life. Another cheap card to give life on your upkeep.
Exquisite blood if the card resolves if your opponent loses life for any reason or you gain life for any reason the game is over as all opponents lose infinite life and you gain infinite life Throw in an essence warden and now if anyone plays any creatures the game is over
Lovely! What about the Druid of Essence, the 1/1 elf costing G that let you gain 1 life each time a creature comes in play? Eh eh EDIT: "Essence Warden" Thanks @James Cruz
