Facey Neck The artist is challenging us. Checks obviously represent money, so he is confronting us with the question, "Is this art, or just a crass attempt to monetize the butt?"...
This is what Will wrote: "It also has buttchecks". If he had intended for the work to read "It also has buttcheeks", he would have written that. But no, this is a work by a master artist, and you have done a great disservice to him--and to us--with such a loose interpretation. We must use our hermeneutic lenses to peer into the depths of the words actually written, thereby challenging the security of our own native social expectations. It is in this way that the true brilliance of Will reveals itself to us.
This reminds me of English class when we had the question "Why did the artist choose to described the color of the curtains as blue?" Apparently the answer was "To show the sadness and depression he is facing so the reader sympathizes" or something. I put down "Because he wanted blue curtains."
I wouldn't be surprised if there were others who thought about it. I mean, there were around 30 kids in my English class. And the book with the poem in it is probably used around the state, so that makes thousands of people. I don't go on Tumblr, though.
I think its interesting that Will chose to use the word "well" presumably in place of the word "while". Is this a deliberate play on words suggesting that the "Monkey" can make fart sounds with its mouth while it farts from its behind AND that the "Monkey" actually farts well as evidenced by the fact that the fart sounds like a fart?
I don’t even know how, but I just remembered the phrase “monkey farter” and somehow knew to look it up on RUclips to bring me back here. Jesus brains are weird.
no idea why, but when i watched this video, it reminded me of when in grade 1, my teacher told me that space is made up of gases, and so i asked "so space is just a lot of farts?" and she sent me to the office....
Why the hell would you send a six year old to the principal's office for not knowing that gas has more than one meaning and asking a legitimate question? What a bitter bitch.
I love this so much! I'm always hearing from my Art History Professor these sort of descriptions and it is so funny to hear it when talking about such a "special" piece of art. Please do more!
I've been sick in bed and out of school for the past week, starting to feel extremely depressed, without laughter, and then I saw this video which had me laughing thoroughly throughout. Please make more of these.
I fear your in-depth interpretation of Will's master work is invalidated. At first view, most would be drawn to the farters 'butt cheeks'... However, Will deceptively uses simple text to direct us to the creatures 'butt checks'. This intentional complication throws a 'monkey' wrench in your (f)artistic critique.
specialfred1234 ... butt checks ... as in, " don't write 'checks' ya butt can't cash ".... or don't write checks with your butt .... or .... check your butt ..... elusive .... ever more eeeelusive
God, you are a treasure lol i love your work.. this send up of critiques is so spot on i feel transported back in time to my Uni art classes and i weep with mirth.
This gave me PTSD of the time in art in college when I spent 2 weeks painting a realistic rose and got a lower grade than the guy who literally dumped trash on the floor and called it society 🤣 Pro tip for getting good grades I'm art. Make shit And pretend it has a deeper meaning to sound pretentious. (I do like art btw even some of the pretentious stuff depending on how it's done but that particular incident will always be with me lol)
Advice I got as a child, but summed up into a comprehensible essence: There's the correct answer & there's the answer the teacher wants. Know the correct answer & why it's correct...but keep your mouth shut & get the grades you need.
Thus threw that mirror which you are looking at yourself you see light which subsequently you see a glimpse of the past, the past controls the future so this picture represents the answers to the universe.
What's hilarious is that this video puts the drawing in a social context which makes it valuable now. As stupid as it may seem, this drawing, as stupid as it is, could sell quite well to people wanting to collect elements of important memes, as memes too, depending on their reach, will have the potential to be viewed by some as art. But it's also about rarity and status, and the fact this video is spread by many and only one drawing was ever made, lends to that.
I just rediscovered this bookmark in my favourite saves. Needing so badly to laugh in this so troubled world, this video delivers its timeless treasures with uproarious abundance. Just gotta say - this thing is genius. Pure, hilarious (son and father) creative genius. THANK YOU!
assemblage - Fine Arts. a sculptural technique of organizing or composing into a unified whole a group of unrelated and often fragmentary or discarded objects. Basically a collection
perfectly said, This video will challenge you to look deep into yourself. Ask just who you are and what your made of. Are you simply a bag of gas making your way threw the world or do you have a grand purpose. I found my self on the outside looking in at the end of this video. I cried a little i'm not ashamed of it either for my eyes have been open and I feel I now know who I truly am as a person/bag of flatulence.
My journals from K-12 are littered with pages filled to the corners with doodles that merge into one chaotic picture with text weaved throughout. I call them Acid Scribbles, and they make absolutely no sense. Some of them are pretty creepy, and I don't remember scribbling them out. I would love to see more Artwork Critiques
Ah, we spell "cheques" "checks" here in the States. As the artist is an American, I'm assuming he would spell checks the way we do around here. Though if he's Canadian, it would put an interesting twist on the picture.
I feel that I am really understanding the artist's mind and thought process through this piece. The thought and effort that this piece took makes my jaw drop in awe. The whole piece is an illusion, which parallels to the artist's life. I understand why his emotions helped him in a piece like this. This is an expertly drawn and wonderfully thought up piece. I would love to see more in the future.
I just realized that if you have a high enough level of intellect as well as a low enough voice, you can make anything seem either profound or just plain beautiful.
This reminds me of a confiscated note my mother kept locked away in a briefcase, only showing her collection of similar items upon retirement. The best had to be the one with a crude naked boy and girl and the kid had written above what appeared at "Sak My Possy".
I miss your videos Ze, the insightfull ones I mean, like Suppostobes. I watched it on a warm summerafternoon in France, when returning from Spain to Belguim, where I'm born and grown so to speak, and it really blew my mind. It was such a poetic and unique view on everyday life, on what we all feel so often but can't express. You expressed it for the world! I miss that. I hope we'll see another one of your ephifanies soon! Loveya Randomsuperhero ;D
This came out when I was in college, and 10 years later I still consider it one of the foundational texts in the English Canon. It can fart well making noises that sound like fart noises, indeed. Truer words.
I would love to do a weekly series of this where I take the worst of the front page of Deviantart and try to do this with it. Unfortunately I'm not that great at articulating the artist vernacular in a convincing and representational way as Zefrank.
Actually, it says "IT also has butt checks."
Not butt "cheeks."
This revelation has profound implications for the piece to be revisited.
maybe it was done on purpose to have people revisit this work of art o.o
Ryan Granato Yep. That's what I'm saying.
;-)
Facey Neck The artist is challenging us. Checks obviously represent money, so he is confronting us with the question, "Is this art, or just a crass attempt to monetize the butt?"...
This is what art do.
Lmao
Or does the Monkey Farter laugh his ass off? I believe we might have to dig deeper.
That*
This is the best parody of pretenteous art critics I've ever seen.
People get Ph.D.s in communication studies for less than this.
But is it, sorry but, is it a parody???

@@christinamata3405 I'm so sorry that it took five months for someone to recognize your profundity. Deep words, indeed!

this is the most intellectually stimulating piece of toilet humour I have ever witnessed. Bar none. I like it.
I'm not sure I would have followed that link if I didn't trust your own exquisite taste in intellectual stimulation. I'm so glad I did.

bitch please in photography class we had to watch 5 minutes of a butterfly flying in slow motion then write a 2000 word essay on what it meant
indeed wow teachers know how to kill time
Silent Joe Yeah, suuure.
And here we can hear how an average profound art conversation sound like.

Gases. And dustses. And the occasional planetses and starses, which are themselves made up of gases or rockses, but seldom dustses.

@Dante Alighieri , Please tell me that was a loose analogy, and you’re not in the cult of the Mormons.
'Who of course made a splash on the main floor of Basel this past season'- sounds like some sort of in joke with the parents of the kid, haha.
Where can I buy this masterpiece?
Walmart.
Your local kindergarten.
My garage.
I'm sorry but It's priceless
Like you deserve such a masterpiece, ooooooh look at you. I didn't know the Louvre had a RUclips profile
I love how it "collapses into a mirror, through which we see our own soul, farting" just as the screen goes dark and I can in fact see my reflection.
I may not like every piece of art, but I can appreciate the thought and work that goes into each piece of art
This reminds me so much of high school English class.
You know, we never got the other two in the trio.
May your eye for beauty never diminish, may the artist forevermore strike us with such profundity
