It’s such a short moment but I adore the roleplay moment between Rye and Cham when he starts to panic a little on the ship and rye puts her helmet up to his and comforts him, helping him calm down, it was so wholesome and sweet and felt so real and natural between the two characters, the players portray it perfectly, such a great showcase of building their friendship like they’ve been at this for years, would 100% be something you’d see in the movies, such good stuff!
I find actual plays relatively hard to follow, so I don't watch many full videos. But I have to say this is the most compelling actual play I've watched. Credit to Trav for keeping the pacing on a knife edge and the players for leaning into their roles. It looked like it was a lot of fun. Thanks for making it.
I just wanna talk about the bonus situation before we do anymore work
Parker, you're gonna get paid what you contracted for, just like everybody else.
I'm GMing this tomorrow night, and this really helped me out with practical examples of the events. Thank you!
Enjoying this so far. Great characters. Just a minor point: Pretty sure you enter the ship via the main airlock on Deck A
Bought this game on release at Swedish Scifiworld con this weekend.
I'm at about the 1h 52m mark, so idk if this gets resolved later, but I'm running this adventure now and its important to note that the Montero isn't rated as a towing vessel and thus doesn't have the physical equipment necessary to tow anything. This tidbit is important to communicate to the players, bc now they have to actually get the Cronus moving again, not just a quick in-and-out. This helps keep the players invested in exploring/repairing the ship during Act I.
Wow , you Guys do simply amazing Stuff with Rpgs, man. I am so pumped for the Finale.
So glad you enjoyed it, my friend!
Excited to see this system run. I actually picked up this and the core rule book at Gen Con. But haven't played it yet. I'm a huge fan of the novels like Alex Whites The Cold Forge. It came out in 2018 and is one of my favorite novels along with the Rage War Trilogy.
Good game. Looks like you're all having fun, and you're all a fun group. GM did a really good job on the atmosphere setting, especially in the beginning. A couple of things that I feel the need to mention, however.
The problem with having it so panicking means an automatic failure on the roll is that, because of the way stress accumulates in this system, by having that rule it means that all of the benefit of having stress (more chances to roll a 6 because of adrenaline and focus) is negated because there's just as much more chance to roll that 1 on the stress dice. That's not a good rule and it just leads to a cascade of failure, which we saw happen here.
Also, Davis is an addict, and can't relieve stress while resting without drugs. Although I did appreciate her being the first person I've seen NOT playing Davis as a drooling, flamethrower wielding maniac, which I greatly appreciated.
@Tom Green They weren't using it correctly. Rolling a 1 on a stress die DOES count as an automatic failure, but only if the following panic roll is 10 or higher, at least based on my read of the book. I was just saying that they were automatically failing too often.
I personally don’t like all the OBSERVATION rolls, I think it is carryover from DnD and Call of Cthulhu. If there is something to see, let them see it, don’t make them roll for it. The rules clearly say Rolls are special and should be rare. Let them see the blood, the egg spores, etc. Give them all the visuals other RPGs normally require a roll for. Now if something is sneaking up on them, then roll for OBSERVATION against a MOBILITY roll for the sneaker. But these guys were trailblazing, running a newly created RPG, with no creator game play examples.
I know this was years and years ago, but a "facehugger" dice doesn't cancel out success dice. If a player rolls a facehugger they roll on the panic table. SOME high level panics (Rolling 10 or higher) will cancel the action. Your players succeeded on way more skill checks.
Sooooo good.
Thank you for watching, my friend!
Ehy, what music are u playing in background? Thx
nice
What is that dice roller you use?
What software are they using to stream this?
Roll20 for rolls and system mechanics. Streamlabs OBS for production and Zoom for camera capture! Thank you for watching!
TalesFromTheGrim awesome, thanks and subscribed.
What is the system you using for rolls on roll 20?
That_Eriksson All D6
@@sarpedon702 no, i mean the character sheet that is used to get those graphical rolls. I know the system uses all D6. Since I posted this comment I found the character sheet for Alien game and clicking them does this so I did figure out my answer. Just when you make your game on campaign look for the Alien Character sheet that looks just like one from core rules.
I just recently found out about this game. I have never played a pencil and paper rpg. I play so bad but...LOL
Fun stream. I'm curious why you changed the story point mechanic - normally PCs start with zero story points and earn one at the end of each act if they meet their personal agenda objective(s).
im surpaies i didn't hear about this rpg game last year
I had clicked on the discord link in this video to join up to but i can't seem to get on there. It says it has become invalid?
On a completely different topic, which might sound weird in saying, but i started watching this and when i need something to sleep to, this is my go to sleep video. I think the Cham and Rye conversation are the highlights of the video and Davis's yiddish comments.
Shame my gaming group only ever wants to play dnd 5e.
Would love to run this.
M Hayes I’m running this on discord end of July if interested make contact
@@seanconnorsfanpub7188 ive managed to run 3 sessions of chariot with some of my group. Got one last session left where body count will rise
M Hayes I’m running a mini campaign if your interested
@@seanconnorsfanpub7188 will depend on times/days. Im expecting to return to work in the next week or two.
Oh for the love of physics no, helium-3 is not incredibly flammable. That is totally wrong. They were carrying tritium gas, which was supposed to *decay* into helium en route to the destination. It was the tritium that needed special precautions, not the helium!
If the GM says helium is incredibly flammable, then its incredibly flammable! This isn't science class, it's an RPG!
That's why you always make up your phlebotinum
Mother kind of flubbed that explanation for the Cargo. Page 8 was changed in the printed manual. Its not all Helium 3 yet, it starts out as Tritium and the volatile nature of Tritium means that it can be a bitch to transport. but by the time the shipment reaches port it will have completed radioactive decay into Helium-3 a safe and clean energy source. etc... When the adventure begins only half the Tritium gas has been converted to Helium-3 and therefore 100000 tons of the the Tritium Gas is still highly flammable. Extreme caution is advised.
But yeah the free version didn't change the description, the game was done very well, Kudos much better then others I've watched run the game. Also was this using ROLL20
Delivering Helium 3 from point A to point B. They have weapons and a motion tracker for some reason. No one asks why.
Sort of depends on the GM. Really there is only one weapon when the scenario opens, a sidearm pistol. All the rest are ‘tools’... I slow played their introduction. Need to get the airlock open, oh hey you’ve got a laser cutter that is +2 for HEAVY MACHINERY rolls, where appropriate. If you intro them with weapon stats, your players are going to assume they are weapons instead of tools... let them figure it out.
Feels like if you get one stress, the game starts to go downhill real fast. Not 100% on whether I like that or not yet, but it was a fun video to watch. I just really hate wasting my time on RPGs. One bad roll in some seems to just derail a game sometimes.
It's not for everyone. But the point of survival horror is that it's not a walk in the park and there are going to be casualties most of the time. When things go wrong, they go wrong quick. Just like in the movies.
Agreed! The recommended length of the published Cinematic adventures is roughly 6-10 hours but they give you tips on longer campaign-length modifications. Also I believe Stress mechanics have been 'tweaked' a bit (in favor of the PCs) since this initial version of Chariot of the Gods.
Thanks so much for watching, my friends!
I seriously don’t understand how this game is played. Every review is extremely vague on what you actually GET when you preorder and how it’s used to play.
Currently you can order a rulebook or a bundle pack with dice, maps, reference cards and a gm screen included.
Only the rulebook is essential for play, though you will need paper, pencils and some dice, or something to play online with like these guys.
It's a pen and paper rpg, like dungeons and dragons. If you've never played one before it's hard to describe on RUclips how they work, but there's a load of videos online about them and countless articles, so go take a look if you're interested.
Sorry if this is a late reply and no use now, but game is on pre order now and available from next week so if you were interested might be worth taking another look.
The game has a heavy focus on stress and panic and how it affects everyone, what they do, and what happens around them.
I think it needs a pretty creative and quick-on-their-feet gamemaster so it doesn't come to a halt, since it relies on a "Fail Forwards" and "Let it Ride"kind of gameplay.
Helium 3 is not reactive or flammable...
Even in the Alien universe. It naturally occurs in terrestrial Helium, it’s not even radioactive. Helium is part of the Noble Gases, which are known specifically to be inert.
@@sarpedon702 I'm not going to pretend to know chemistry, but the book states that they are transporting Tritium gas which is in the process of decaying into Helium-3. The book also states that it's the Tritium gas that is volatile and that by the time the crew makes it all should have decayed into Helium-3 which is safe as you say.
Tritium is a radioactive form of hydrogen. It decays into inert Helium 3. The tanks are full of compressed radioactive hydrogen.
