  • On this air conditioning service call I run into a noisy condenser fan motor. the AC Condenser motor bearings are starting to wear out. The noise was noticed before the motor bearings failed, I, therefore, replace the noisy condenser fan motor on this HVAC system.

    I have a 37 y/o Trane … 1.5 ton … that is making too much noise. I disconnected the fan power at the contactor’s load side and determined the fan motor is the problem. It looks like the motor bearings are on their way out. I’ll have to get a universal replacement. I hope to get one more season out of this R22 oldie but goody before Saying goodbye to an old workhorse. Thanks for the video.

      That condenser motor on that old trane has oil ports. Often some oil and the motors run smooth again

    Was a helper and the GE version was incredibly popular and any that would fail got replaced with the trane badged units. I tell yah the old GE’s were the tanks compared to even this Trane rebadged version, the Trane units were lighter in weight in comparison to the GE’s. Worked with many a GE Weathertron heat pump systems as well.
    The GE and these were my favorite in the old days!

    Need help with the wiring. I have the same trane condenser, old GE motor was 3 wire with Black and the brown and purple wire sent to the capacitor. New rescue has black, brown, brown with white, red and white wires. I know where the black needs to go. Just need to know what wires I need to connect to the blower motor capacitor and what do I do to the white and red from the motor?

    Great video! Is there any reason you can't replace the bearings rather than replace the motor? Maybe it's just cheaper because it's less labor?

      I will miss working at that house since it just sold. There was another video where I repaired the little lennox condenser next to this trane

    As a kid, just getting into the trade I hated those units with those darn 'bottle brush' condenser coils. They were sharp and poked you if you touched them and when changing a compressor you had to lean down over them and that wasn't fun. But...they ran great and lasted forever. Funny but I have a Trane system in my house today, installed three years ago, that has the same design on the condensing unit. I'm glad I'll never have to work on it. I'm retired. I'll let someone like 'Hacker' come to fix it if needed.

      Trane bought GE for the compressor technology. That orange compressor is built like a tank and heavy. The roto locks are starting to rust away on some of the early 80's models

    What size is that kneeling pad? I didn’t even know about those drain plugs. Learned something new

    why did it fail? was the drain plug removed on the bottom so the water could drain out?

      Could be moisture getting into the motor from lack rain shield causing the bearing to not be properly lubricated? Hard to tell.

      The HVAC Hacker yep that was it. They came with a rain shield 👍👍

      @@thehvachacker i had asked you in an older video about your malco connext 1 screw driver and i ended up buying it. Its my favorite as of now i bought two one for phillips flat head and other for nut drivers but i find myself using it more than other nut drivers and screw drivers

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  5 лет назад

      The handle with a few driver bits is all you need most of the time. No reason to carry around all different nut drivers just carry different bits. I have other nut drivers keep them in the truck just in case I need the hollow shaft cause I am taking a nut off where the bolt is in the way. Happy to hear I helped you find a useful tool.

    I had a a/ c unit that lasted 22 years I think it was a carrier. The dont make them like that anymore!

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  5 лет назад +1

      No they don’t. I had a old brown round carrier at my mothers house I replaced cause it was 33 years old and I didn’t want to chance it going down when it got hot. That thing ran like a tank yet I knew if it went I would be swamped with work and didn’t want my mm uncomfortable until I could get there so I

      This was GE model trane acquired after they bought out ge. Same era of the brown round carriers. These compressors were tanks. My dad still has one yet he is in peru the last two summers with my stepmom taking care of her parants. The furnace has the old dial fan control limit
