      There’s a lot of honest AC companies out here. One way to tell if you have a honest person they will explain and should you what they found. With out trying to sell you anything I always give my customers the opportunity to opt out. Or look around for better quotes. If I feel that the home owner is mechanically inclined I will show them how to do things like install a thermostat.

    Bought a fairly new used 8000 BTU LG A/C window unit with heat last year. Hadn't turned it on until recently. It is just sitting uninstalled on a metal file cabinet. Decided to make plans to install it. Turned it on and the compressor is pretty loud. It is getting cold and the compressor seems to be fine just extra loud like it is really cranking. Sounds like a refrigerator compressor when it first powers up. I guess it would be okay for a bedroom to sleep. But seems that the noise would be a distraction if watching TV etc. I plan to cut a hole in the wall the size to fit the casing. Wonder if after I mount the unit if this noise will diminished considerably as the compressor will be outside. Sitting on top of that metal file cabinet likely amplifies it a bit. I think it just has a compressor that makes more noise than most, and not a mechanical issue. Have any thoughts on this?

    Even though we’re 3000miles away, you’ve helped service my new Rheem compressor. I honestly believe the scroll lose their mesh or the bypass gets stuck.... it is loud, then shuts down within 2 minutes.... very randomly however.

We've been in the home just a little over a month now and a few days ago, I noticed the compressor come to a very rough stop when it shuts down after reaching set point. It didn't start out this way. Don't know if you fixed this problem yet, but the squeaking is coming from the compressor overheating. That fan blade removes the heat from the outdoor unit and if it doesn't work the compressor overtemps and eventually shuts down.

  • @aliso-pv7ll
    @aliso-pv7ll 5 лет назад +4

    Greg, Also when the hub is breaking away from where the fan blades are connected to the hub, when the motor begins to turn there is a squeal. As you probably do when servicing or replacing a cond. motor, it is a good practice to inspect the fan blades for tear or breakage.Most service technicians will suggest to replace motor and fan blade if both have been in use for several years. As always, thanks for your valuable videos. Oh, will you do a video on the use of the run capacitor as a crankcase heater, do they really heat the crankcase? A video on a complete PV system, meaning all the components? Thanks again!

    Good job, way to add value to the community while increasing your credibility at the same time. I'm up from similarly warm San Diego and the HVAC techs there make used car salesmen seem like priests. After fixing mine for years while repeatedly being told 'you can't even get parts for those', and had the packaged unit condemned a couple times due to 'cracked exchanger' (all lies), I had an AC leak and finally decided to upgrade to newest CA refrigerant du jour...The price quote range was 300%! I got a Bryant by another honest firm that was in the middle. Anyway, my parents' Courier is making noise, I suspected it was bearing and forgot about trying to clean everything off (the leaf blowing gardener goes back there so it may be time). I warned them not to call anyone and that I should go into this business to offer an honest offer, then I see you're addressing that.

      It's my dad's house it's a spot home I really don't know what the unit is it has no brand on it it's probably long since rusted off but I'm thinking the fan blade hat it has some issues or balancing issues cuz it shakes the whole wall it's in a compartment cuz this is a manufactured home in the bathroom and the furnace is in the bathroom I know all the vindex are in good shape I checked the belt saints jumping or anything so I'm really kind of stumped but that unit does work really really good even though it sometime from the 60s it doesn't have your traditional radiator fins it's more like a spine radiator I know it ain't that compressor but the compressor mounts are long since deteriorated I'm actually thinking about going in the HVAC I don't know about it yet but I'm only 16 I fixing 30000 BTU air conditioners that go in your wall and I sell them on the side but off subject I wasn't asked you you might know what it is I really genuinely don't know what it is I can't get a picture of it my camera's broken on my phone but I could definitely so the condenser part and fan are on the outside in the wall the coils on the bottom the fans on the top it's a six-pointed fan blade and it seems to be shaking pretty bad I could see it shaking around in there I know it's going to do some damage I'm probably going to replace it but I got to get in there the measuring tape and figure out what size of family that is cuz I might be able just run to the scrap yard and just grab a different fan blade

  • @williampennjr.4448
    @williampennjr.4448 5 лет назад +1

    No. Most A/C's are in the window. Most of the time the noise is from the motor and airflow speed. There's nothing you can do about the airflow speed except keep it at the lowest setting. You can try spraying insulation foam into the A/C to quiet the motor but that will void the warranty and could cause the motor to overheat.

    It would be nice to record each part separately and say what are the frequencies of these parts. I tried today to find a source of the noise, I was pretty sure it was a transformer. But the frequency is not 60Hz (standard in Poland) but 72Hz; 144Hz. I found some document that says it may be air conditioning condenser, but I'm not sure yet.

    • @maciejciemborowicz

      And thank you for taking care about HVAC noise. Most of such units are at the edge of environmental noise limits when they are brand new. That means after one year they are illegal. However no one cares and inspectors can't measure it properly with a background noise.

      Could be that hot gas bypass if it's coming from the compressor itself.

      @@foxfamilyheatingandaircond4696 I appreciate the reply. I've heard various things like slightly over charged or a weakened reversing valve but I have nothing else to go on. Thanks for your consideration.

    What happens if it got loud out of no where? I live in an all bills paid apartment, and out of no where, it got so loud I can’t see straight. It literally vibrates my wall. It happened suddenly, and they are claiming it is fine.....the fact that my house is 10 degree hotter than it is set for tells me they are wrong lol especially when you consider the fact that the noice came out of nowhere.....I mean shaking a fucking wall??? The sound and shaking will stop if I turn it off and on a couple times over an hour or so.

      The downside of renting. Clearly the owner didn’t want to pay to fix a very broken AC.

    Can this loud noise make Bill higher?

      Not necessarily. As long as the amperages meet factory specs. (the motors) I wouldn't expect that to raise my bill.

    Any Bryant or Carrier unit are better than the brand you used most of the time, which is Goodman.
    Goodman units are not better than Bryant , Bryant is made by Carrier.
    You get one bad Bryant unit in one of a million units.

      Right on. Yeah I like carrier and Bryant too. I'm not sure where I said I like Goodman. I'm a Trane dealer and have never considered installing a Goodman for someone. Eww.

    Too many problems, houses and need to be built from cinder blocks, not cheap wood. We don't need movie sets to live in! That way, avs are no needed or run twice a day and last longer.

    Listened for 2 and a half minutes and you are just talking without showing any Air Conditioner sounds. Going to find another video that gets straight to the point - you might want to consider that in future videos!

    I like this guy, i AM and actual AC tech (ticketed) among other tickets ( welding, sheetmetal, gas, AC and MET) hes not wrong, there is a chance it could be stupid person fixes but he covers them lol , i will add tho your filter change recommendation is a JOKE. If you can see through your filter then you're at optimal. Dont waste your time or money for cleaning if you can see light through them
