Mount Eerie (Phil Elverum) performing at the Pacific Cultural Center in Santa Cruz on May 26, 2004, apparently as a Streetlight Records showcase (as per the giant banner behind Phil). Phil had somewhat recently stopped performing as The Microphones, and this is the first show I saw with him performing as Mount Eerie.
This comes from a 13 year old (!) miniDV tape so there are some visual artifacts and anomalies. There's also some weird, extreme zooming that I didn't normally do when taping shows at a couple points, especially during the last song, so apologies for that (or you're welcome, depending on your preferences). You can also see Woelv and Thanksgiving, who also played that night, singing along to Let's Get Out Of The Romance in the audience at one point.
there's always that one dude that's coughing like he has bronchitis
Legend says this is why so many of Phils live albums are recorded in Europe. Mr. Bronchitis doesnt have the monies for cough medicine, let alone international travel! What little cash he does have he blows on wadlord.
Or a few on any classical music concert recording during the quiet bits. But that's because they're usually old people.
That zoom in on Genevieve is truly a spiritual moment
that version of voice in headphones was fucking awesome
geneviève appears around min 33 for those wondering. thank for uploading
with Adrian Orange, of course
Thank you!
i was just thinking that!
this is a hidden treasure
I wrote down the lyrics to the song that he begins at 14:20 that has no title and, to my knowledge, has never been released. It's such a transcendent beauty. I wish he did!
There’s no shadow
The fear will wait for you in
Because when it comes
it comes cloaked in light
There’s no shadow
Your dark eyes belong to
And the dark night
On the unlit trail
Stopped
Do not be afraid
And the war of the worlds
That's gonna come
And the dark night
On the unlit trail
No moon flows by
There’s no shadow
The longest stare could uncover
In the dark night
On the unlit trail
You are full
Setlist:
05:47: Dark Hills
07:20: Cold Mountain Song 286
09:58: Rich (Homeless) (Thanksgiving cover)
13:26: (another unknown song that seems to use lyrics from the not-yet-released-at-the-time-track "The Moan")
16:16: Give Totally Up
20:11: See Me
23:10: What? (No Flashlight version)
26:53: Let's Get Out of the Romance
34:55: We Squirm
38:06: Grave Robbers
39:41: Heart Lake at Night
40:54: What? (Lost Wisdom version)
43:40: Voice in Headphones
50:34: I Say "No"
Song at 9:58 is a thanksgiving song, called money or rich (homeless). It seems like he is covering this thanksgiving song while looking at thanksgiving sitting in the back and giving a flirty look like "yea, I'm covering your song".
Awesome! Thank you, I'll add it
16:16 is "give totally up," which eventually came out on "Song islands 2"
Dozens of Cousins why does 26:53 sound like the acoustic rendition of ‘i want to be cold’ from ‘blood’
13:26 is Let's Get Out of the Romance (Black)
I love that way of collectively singing voice in headphones
This Thanksgiving cover is precious
31:38 I was expecting him to play I Want to be Cold
he's so cute aw
Thats the same shirt he wore at the house show in 2000!
I wish there was a video of the Halloween show where that recording is from with "I will be good" and lots of page turning sounds....
Wow this is amazing, thanks for uploading this.
i always love the audience inclusions
anyone remember if mt eerie woelv and julie doiron played this venue late 2004?
Yes. Lots of little haiku songs?
Wow you've been holding out!
PantingFish I wasn't even sure the camera still worked! I had one more show taped from the night before the Pete's Candy Store show with Calvin Johnson but it seems like the actual tape itself is damaged, so this is it!
Thanks so much for the uploads! I'd been listening to the recordings of the Petes Candy show for years, was really great to see the video, thanks again
my birthdays the same month as phils yay
Perfect
dammit dale, im duct taping your zoom
This one is killing me

Any chance you recorded Thanksgiving's set?
Nope sorry

32:17
That part broke me
Does anyone know what chords he i using to play rich (homeless)? I cant quite figure it out
what is the song that starts at 7:20? I've been trying to find it for so long
It's called "Cold Mountain Song 286" off of the Seven New Songs ep !
@@jaketyler11 thank you!!
Did he ever released that song a 14.00 ?
dont think so... it uses some lyrics from The Moan though (which hadn't been released yet) so maybe it's some kind of demo version of a song from No Flashlight.. a couple of songs in this setlist seem to be
Thank you so much! Love the melody so much, will come back here super often to listen to it then ahah
if its his birthday should it be the 23rd?
