  • www.ventrac.com/ In this video we compare a Ventrac and a Zero Turn in wet conditions. Most machine operators know that driving equipment on soft or wet ground conditions will either tear up the ground or the equipment gets stuck. Ventrac can push the limits much further than traditional equipment because of its articulating oscillating frame, weight distribution with the dual wheels and all-wheel drive. So next time you use your zero turn, check for stable ground conditions or make sure there is a Ventrac nearby to pull you out!!!

    My name's Aaron Graber, and today we're comparing a Ventrac vs zero turn in wet conditions. It's important to acknowledge that these are two very different machines. We chose a zero turn to run side-by-side with a Ventrac because they are the benchmark and show context to what people are used to running. The machine we chose is actually more a prosumer model so it's not quite as heavy duty as some zero turns out there. That should actually bode well for it because that means it's lighter. Some important things to talk about with the Ventrac are that it's articulating and oscillating. What that means is the frame hugs the terrain, bends, and twists at the center so it can keep constant contact with the ground, and the eight tires help spread the load out so that the ground pressure is lower and you can glide over wet areas easier. Today we're coming out of about four straight days of rain, it's starting to warm up, it's springtime, the ground is kind of falling out. It's a great time to showcase this and how the Ventrac works.
    So we're on a place in the property that's a little bit low lying, it collects water, it pulls here. It doesn't drain from here as quick as some of the other places. As you can see I am completely and totally stuck right now. What happened was as I started going with the zero turn, the right-side tire packed up with mud and since that is the steering on a zero turn I had no choice but to drive further over to the right than I wanted to. I made a little bit of progress until we are completely dead in the water now. We will pull this out with the Ventrac and hopefully, it shows the difference of the Ventrac vs a zero turn in these conditions. This specific zero turn is about 800 lbs. The Ventrac is approaching 2,000 lbs. by itself with the dual wheels. Add the deck in and you're almost 2,500 lbs.
    Thanks for watching this video. We really appreciate your time. We hope that you learned something from it, and as always, leave your comments. We are listening and watching. Hopefully, the feedback we get dictates some of the new projects that we do. The best way for you to really understand and learn the advantages of a Ventrac and how nice it can be to run one is to get in the seat yourself. Check out our dealer website, you can find your nearest dealer, you can book a demo with a dealer, and try the Ventrac on your own property.

    Regarding some comments about tires, or duals, or price differences or anything else that's different - If we tried to make it 100% fair and changed everything about the Zero Turn to be like a Ventrac, then we'd have to build the machine from the ground up and it would end up a Ventrac. Then it would be a Ventrac vs a Ventrac and there would be no comparison. That's the point of the comparison: show the differences. This is simply a learning tool for those who don't know much about Ventrac. Hopefully it can help them understand what our machine is all about.

      The 4500 tractor is between 19-23k depending on engine option. Then, add on whatever attachments and accessories you would need.

      You are high off your own grass. nobody mows in flooded areas. Id say turn around and leave but youd have to take some extra time out vs a zero turn.

      Actually, we have a lot of customers that mow in much worse than what is pictured in our video. Usually, in areas that are notoriously wet like retention ponds. Here's an example. Disclaimer: Not our video.

    • @ventrac
      @ventrac  6 лет назад +23

      Sometimes you just have to in order to keep up with the early growing spring grass. A lot of contractors face the issue of customers expecting that it will be done even if the weather isn't quite cooperating.

    • @LAYDAWOOD6
      @LAYDAWOOD6 6 лет назад +6

      Exactly! Allowing grass to grow excessively long due to many days of consecutive rain is just as harmful or worse than mowing in wet conditions. This machine almost eliminates the downside of mowing wet as long as your blades are definitely sharp.

      thomas wright yeah right, that difference is a brand new V-6 Camaro
      Clapped out zero turn-$800-1200
      New ventrac- $20,000
      And up, that’s right twenty. It the Kirby of mowers, ten times the cost of a regular product, three times the weight but twice the power, effectiveness and lifespan of its competitors. There only really for you if you got cash to burn or mowing is your passion , excellent for chicken farmers w/loader attachment and it’s low profile n crazy power, or extreme off road mowing, if a normal riding mower can even think about doing your chores, you probably don’t need this.

    It seems like both machines may impact the turf in wet weather, but even at 2000 pounds the Ventrac has very even minimul wear and the grass can recover from the small damage it incurs, although even here it's almost none. The zero turn on the other hand puts most it's weight on the 2 tires, carving out huge ruts and basically ruining the turf beyond repair. I thought this was a fantastic comparison, some people may say otherwise. There's plenty of zero turns that are more expensive and will get stuck exactly the same. This shows you how a different configuration besides a zero turn may be a better solution for your conditions.

    Well I purchased and still have a $14k Ferris 3100z 60" cut because I mow 16 acres at my house. I had the same problems as in this video along with I have some slopes. I demoed the Ferris in very dry conditions and loved it. Well after the first year I hated it and went out and demoed a Ventrac 4500Z with a 72" mower and was sold on it. I have both mowers and I will mow with the Ventrac every time and mow just as fast as with the Ferris. When the hills are wet the Ferris is useless. Ventrac all the way!

    A rear PTO I would love to see soon. With a rear PTO it would open up a lot of farming implements like for hay and hay racks. Also a log splitter would be A new implement that would like to see. With that being said I love what Ventrac is doing and the Quality of the tractor. Keep up the great work. With ideas that I’ve given would make the vent track a one stop shop for anybody farmer, rancher, home steadier, you name it including the every day landscaper. One tool for any job. For anyone!!!! Its not a fair comparison the ventrac that you are using has duals on it and is all wheel drive. Also the ventrac has a cost of around 27,000 that just the tractor not the engine or mower deck or any attahcments with all the attachments he has is costing him 30,000. also that zero turn is an exmark and exmark mowers are really nice. On top of that the exmark is two wheel drive and isn't really a tractor like the ventrac. an exmark is specificallly made to only mow and bag on commercial and or residential properties also the exmark is only about 8,000

    From AUSTRALIA - I like the fact that the Ventrac is close to the ground (unlike tall farm tractors) therefore its NOT likely to topple over when you go up hills. I would feel VERY SAFE on a Ventrac without a seat-belt. At the same time, this machine has the POWER of a tall tractor. WoW!~!! This machine is compact enough to fit inside your STANDARD Garage so therefore don't get a tall tractor, get a VENTRAC!!!

    Ventrac, I want to clear up that I agree with you. I think if for some wild reason you wanted to mow a marsh then the ventrac is way better. If you want to bag your clippings, the Ventrac is way better. But If you keep responding to all these aggressive and rude comments people are putting on here it sure makes your company look silly. You don’t need to respond to such aggression. Reading your responses is like listening to a child bicker with their sibling. Your mower is excellent for its intended purpose.....Like maybe a commercial area that requires daily cutting and no clippings. Let your product speak because on line disputes are a big no no for a long time success with your customers online vision for you. Be kind an quit worrying about the rude comments. Nobody wants to buy from aggressive people. Be humble, otherwise it appears you don’t trust in your own product to speak for itself.

    • @ventrac
      @ventrac  6 лет назад

      Jay - That's fair. Unfortunately, it has become abundantly clear to us that many of these comments that we get are not rude or aggressive just for the sake of being rude or aggressive. They are people who truly don't understand the capabilities / purpose of a Ventrac or are shockingly misinformed about other products. We hope to not come across like we're bickering. There just happens to be a lot of inaccurate information floating around out there that we like to clear up. We are in fact, experts on our product - who better to learn from than us? Thanks for the comment. We'll try to keep it as informative as possible.

    • @ventrac
      @ventrac  6 лет назад

      Usually it's after a wet period where the whole yard seems dry enough to mow and the grass is out of control so they get to it. Then, they get to a spot that didn't dry as fast as the rest, or a slight hill that didn't have the traction they expected, and BOOM. Almost instantly, they're stuck. It sneaks up on you....the conditions are rarely as obvious as shown in this video.

    funny the model exmark you use has the narrow front tires and baldish rear tires , along with improper driving style, it all comes down to ground pressure , i get the ventracs purpose but i will say a scag turf tiger 2 or a hustler super z would have been alot better to compare with, and for a true matching cost comparison altoz trx tracked zero turn could do as good or better.

      We figured that since the Z we used was so much lighter than a bigger commercial option it would have an advantage over them. If we can get our hands on an Altoz TRX, we would LOVE to do a comparison on wet conditions and slopes.

    yeah its cool for what it is, but it looks literally 2 times as big as the zero turn in dimensions. I mean I get the floatation with 8 big tires, but that machine is so effin big, its not really a comparison of even machines, but apples and oranges. The zero turn can do a lot that huge thing can not do, but mostly on dry normal grass. If I cut muddy areas all the time, it would be fantastic, but....who does?

      They're just pretty average turf tires. In our experience, it makes no difference on a zero turn in spring time. If it has turf tires (almost all of them do) they can be new or used....you're going to get stuck in soft spots.

    I notice that the majority of these videos are with the 4500 series tractor, Im interested to see if the 3400 series would be able to work as well in those conditions with the cab option if possible, looking to possibly purchase one in the near future 👍

    • @wouldeyed1361
      @wouldeyed1361 6 лет назад

      Anthony Sunseri I have both units. The 3400 is a nice unit and in tight conditions it's nicer than the 4000 series to mow with mostly due to your basically right behind the deck. The 4000 series feels like twice the machine and has high low speed ranges. I use both often and it's a tank in low range. I'm completely impressed with how strong the 4000 series is. I have a 72" deck for my 4231TD it really kicks the hell out of large area's.
      Depends on your needs. The 4000 does more because there are more attachments but the 3400 fits in smaller spaces. I don't think you will like mowing with a cab, I mow with the ROP's bar down on the 3400 because of catching trees with the bar.
      I wouldn't buy a rear discharge deck again. I would get a mulcher kit for a side discharge deck and remove the kit in fall and add a grass catcher for leaves. Hope that helps.

    How would this compare

    • @ventrac
      @ventrac  5 лет назад

      It's tough to say definitively without measuring the hills, but generally speaking, the Ventrac will be much more stable and maneuverable than any traditional tractor in that size class. We are fairly confident that you would be pleased with the Ventracs performance comparatively. Definitely see if you can demo on on the property in question. You can check out our dealer locator to find somebody near you.

    • @ventrac
      @ventrac  6 лет назад

      You bring up a good point, Shane. The conditions in this video are definitely on the extreme end of "wet" and are pretty much isolated to early spring and late fall. But, it does happen, and with a Ventrac you can push the limits more than with most mowing equipment and still give professional results. With a regular zero turn, a true professional might be waiting a little longer for it to dry out.

    Let’s compare a $3k zero turn to a $30k ventrac. Seems fair. Tires were overfilled on the zero turn and the turf tires don’t grip as well.

    • @ventrac
      @ventrac  4 года назад

      Price isn't the critical factor in these conditions. It's weight. This particular ZTR, although only $4-5k is MUCH lighter than the Ventrac so it should have an advantage in wet conditions. We're actually at a disadvantage in this comparison and we still do a lot better.
