Thank you Neli for the education! I realize you created this video a couple of years ago but I just happened upon this when I was searching for a "how to" video. Well explained. Many thanks.
I just wanted to say thank you you’re a great teacher. I asked cricut how to do this and they didn’t know. I have subscribed to ur account ty ty ty please keep teaching forever I love u 😘
Glad I found you. So much good info and answers to a svg issue I was just dealing with, based on what you showed here, the issue wasn’t DS. I subscribed and under the Cricut Help section, 3rd bullet point, weld, flatten, etc etc, nothing opens when I attempt to open that link. The 2 above it open fine. Thanks for checking and helping. Great video here.
Yay, this is exactly what I was looking for! My stickers were cutting all the little pieces and I never knew what flatten was for. Thanks, I am subscribing for more!
This is great. Very helpful. Thank you. I am having a problem though. I did all this and saved it. It printed and cut great but when I came back to the project to print again all the text was back to basic cut. Any idea why that would happen?
I am so glad I found you - because after tonight I was going to toss my Cricut out the front door. I'm still not sure it will work but I will keep watching your videos. Thanks for great content.
Oh Linda, you're not alone! I also have an ebook "A Maker's Guide to getting started with your Cricut" if it can help you get started and you need a step by step process. Just see it here nelidesign.com/shop . Don't give up! You need to learn to walk before running!
I loved this tutorial, thank you for all the information. I do want to ask. when I flatten the design when I print it out, the black letter is more like gray. why is that?
Thank you for your video. I have flattened everything in my design and it is one layer under print and cut but it still tries to cut the letters once printed? Everything I have watched and looked at I have followed but still won't work!
Hi Neli. I am going out of my mind. You sound soo intelligent and knowledgeable. I have downloaded a design from creative Fabrica or something similar and would like to make a Christmas ornament with transparency film . I have tried every method I can think of to print the image from design space or Canva..I have never use Canva before. But design space is giving me a huge headache :( It is a black design of christmas trees and I am choosing a circle that I send to back and make it white. Then I choose print and cut and flatten. Some of my designs disappear when I click flatten I can't figure out why? Then I choose send to printer. Looks like all or most of designs show up on cricut mat but when I go to print only 2 of the 4 images actually print.. and the other mat says basic cut. I will probably need the Cricut to cut out the shape of the circle but If i had to do that myself I could. But I cannot seem to get all images to print either way.. I really hope you can make heads or tails of this issue. Much appreciated smart and talented lady!!!!
Hi Neli, what I am trying to avoid is the loss of depth and detail when I flatten an image to print and cut, like what I noticed with your cute dog file Secher. How can I print and cut an svg or png and not have it separate mats and lose all the detail? thank you.
So for your washer and dryer vinyl you printed on vinyl through your printer and then went to your cricut and had it cut out? You mentioned card stock but that isn’t going to stick or did you put a magnet behind?
The washer and dryer is simply Adhesive vinyle, no printing required (the tutorial is also on the channel) The stickers for the canning are sticker sheets. I talked about cardstock just as an example.
to make a full page of stickers you can use free canva, put all the stickers on a regular letter size paper. Save as a png, upload to design space, resize and continue
This video is really helpful but I’m still struggling with print and cut. I’ve created my design and duplicated it. It prints the duplicates but only cuts one! Feeling frustrated
@@NeliDesign Thanks for the reply. Yes print then cut is shown. When it cuts the machine is so off, I can’t work it out. I’ve calibrated the machine several times to check so think I’ll just call the support line, so frustrating. Anyway, thanks again, you’ve gained another subscriber, you videos are fab 😊
Idk what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to cut out name tags for my wedding and it keeps cutting up the name . I didnt upload it as SVG because it says the file is too large, its' only 4 names lol
I have been working on a project that has a png image, a cricut image (print & Cut), and wording (print & cut), when I put it all together on a white rectangle and attach and flatten, it will print and scan but then just stops and won't cut. I have been working with Cricut but they cant figure it out. I did a test with just the png image on a white rectangle and it did print and cut. Any ideas of what to try? TIA
Wow, that is strange! I think Cricut Customer Service would know, but if they can't figure it out, I doubt I will! I think you should insist with customer service. Sorry I can't help you more.
@@NeliDesign We tried several different things to try to get it to work. I ended up printing from my laptop and then opening the file on my iphone and it cut. Not the greatest solution, but at least I didn't have to cut them all by hand. Thanks!
Yes you can, but it will cut all the little holes. If you want, you can do an offset of 0" to have the exact shape of the dog. Then flatten bot of them.
I am trying too add text to my print and cut. I am using a white shape, then added my jpeg picture.I attached the picture and text ok.. but when it prints the text does not show up on picture..please help
I am so confused lol. I am trying to transfer a logo with words and images (the one I have in my picture icon) that I created in Canva so that I can make earring cards. I transferred the image to cricut, rectangle as my card, then the logo on top of the rectangle and my website on the bottom. Everything prints, but when it comes for the cricut to cut, It cuts the outline or the earring card but it also cute my logo (as a square within the rectangle) and the website letters it cuts each letter too. I want it to print the logo and my website but just cut the rectangle for the earring card if that makes any sense. Please help! 💚
And SVG is a file with only lines (vectors) you can't have an image in there and that's probably why it says that it's unsupported. You would need to upload them separately.
I want to cut in vinyl but it separates out the image I want to flatten it to cut the whole image together in vinyl but it print and cuts on me I just want it to cut the flattened image on black vinyl I don't want to piece it together
please unflatten. Then ungroup everything and try selecting each layer one by one and then flatten. The new layer panel can be confusing with the groups.
After 7 months, I tried print then cut today for the first time. Thank for clarifying what I did wrong. This is useful information.
Great to hear! Print and cut can be so confusing!
Thank you Neli for the education! I realize you created this video a couple of years ago but I just happened upon this when I was searching for a "how to" video. Well explained. Many thanks.
One of the best tutorials I've seen, excellent! You explain things so well and great tips 👍

Thank you so much for taking the time to say this. Have fun with your Cricut
I didn't realise that you can change the colour of the canvas! I've spent years trying to eyeball things, hoping that they're not overlapping! 😅
So glad you found something so helpful!
Super helpful! I was always using offset and wasn't sure how to cut exactly around the design without a border. Thank you!
Awesome!
You are a life saver!! I had no clue half of this stuff and it makes so much sense all the problems I’ve had now ♥️ thank you!!
I'm so glad!

Glad it helped!
I was struggling with why I lost my shape, thank you!!!
Looked all over RUclips for this answer! Thank you!
Happy to help!
Thank you! You have explained flatten, the best and simplest!
Thank you so much!
Excellent tutorial. I learned some new things. Thank you.

finally a video that explained the mystery of print then cut!! thank you.

Thank you for making this video, this is 100% is the most straight forward and easiest video to follow!
Thank you so much for this nice comment Suzannah!
Thank you so much. This is one of the most helpful tutorials I've seen on printing an SVG file.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you said that!

Glad it helped!
I loved this tutorial, thank you for all the information. I do want to ask. when I flatten the design when I print it out, the black letter is more like gray. why is that?
The default color of Cricut is not 100% black, you'll need to change it. Or maybe your printer is almost out of black ink?
SOOO helpful. Thank you very much.
Very informative! Thank you so much!!
Very good tutorial ! 😊👍
This tutorial was so helpful! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Glad you liked it!
Love your explanation of things.
Thanks for your video and your free cheat sheet 😉👍🏻
So glad you like it!
This has been so helpful! I actually canceled a print because I didn't see the white border. I thought I did it wrong. 😂
Great video! I’m so happy I found your channel. 👏
Thank you! Glad it helps!
Thank you sooo much! My printer was printing all weird because I had all the layers at the wrong settings! Saved me a lot of frustration
Great to hear it helped you!
Thank you so much for this detailed video ^^ !

I wish I could see your layer panel but you really need to have only on layer left

I seen some people attach and flatten, is this only necessary with an offsety
Could you do a tutorial using htv and subliminate plz ..
I have tutorial on HTV and Infusible Ink. I don't have tutorial on sublimation. I don't even have a printer for it ;)
Thank you for making this detailed video! This has been very informative and easy to follow....much appreciated. :)

I flatten and it still cuts the letters instead of the circle around the sticker words
Look at your layer panel, it's probably not flattened
If your machine cannot read the registration markers and you draw lines with a sharpie how can it read the registration marks?
THANK YOU!!
You're welcome!
So the one way to know it's an svg is if it's a basic cut, and how to I change it to a png if I just want to print it without an offset
Where do I find design bundles ?I'm new to this
All links are in the description of the video
How can I tell what kind of file it is?
So what do you do if the white in your image is part of the background you want gone. How woy I keep it white.
Good video, but very fast for a beginner like me. When you pointed to the different buttons, very fast. Thank you. I did like the video.
Glad it was helpful! You can always slowdown the speed of the video if it helps!
thank you

How do you prevent it from cutting the white parts in a jpeg image? It does'nt give the option to flatten and is already print then cut?
Sorry for the late reply. When importing the image, you'll need to remove the white background with the magic wand tool.
how do you get the check box to change the canvas color??
You need to click on "canvas" in the layer panel

I am trying to add a cut within my design how do I do that
I'm not sure I understand the question
Can you flatten the dog without an offset ?
Yes you can, but it will cut all the little holes. If you want, you can do an offset of 0" to have the exact shape of the dog. Then flatten bot of them.
Thank you!!! 💕
You are so welcome!
I tried another design with words and when I hit flatten it takes words off. What should I do?
The words are probably underneath. Before flattening, select the words and "Bring to front"
how do you stop it from cutting the eyes and other random spots in a picture
You need to flatten your picture so only the outline of the shape is cut
Flatten isn’t an option. Is there a way to make it an option?
I am trying too add text to my print and cut. I am using a white shape, then added my jpeg picture.I attached the picture and text ok.. but when it prints the text does not show up on picture..please help
That's because you need to use flatten as explain in the video. And your text layer need to be above the white shape (use "arrange")

It needs to be flatten. select all and Flatten.
Can I open an SVG that has a print and cut and a basic cut? I'm showing an unsupported image file when I try to load it. thank you.
And SVG is a file with only lines (vectors) you can't have an image in there and that's probably why it says that it's unsupported. You would need to upload them separately.

Why can't it leave the image as is and cut it
You need to use Attach, not Flatten
I followed all of these steps and it is still trying to cut out each letter individually. :(
and yes, I did flatten :(
so frustrated....
please unflatten. Then ungroup everything and try selecting each layer one by one and then flatten. The new layer panel can be confusing with the groups.
Great video!!!
I tried to follow and understand this video but you bounce back and forth so much that I’m still just as confused
I'm sorry to hear that. This is more a video to explain when to use Flatten then a step by step follow along project.
@@NeliDesign the "when" part is still unclear. I can't follow your attempt to explain any of it. Apparently others are able so it must just be me.
Didn’t see you print or cut lol
Well, the title is "When to use Flatten (or not)" ...
So helpful!! Thank you!
Thank you
