I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about WW2 and especially the women who served but never heard of this unit. I am so glad your mother and her sisters in arms are finally getting the recognition they so richly deserve. Now I am off to do research to tide me over until this comes out on Netflix. Fun fact I just discovered: this was filmed in an old army facility in Bradford, West Yorkshire. My Dad was there for several weeks in early 1945 recovering in the army hospital from a combination of being shot in the head and frostbit feet (didn't lose his toes but he did have a permanent dent in his forehead).

6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Six Triple Eight", was a predominantly black battalion of the Women's Army Corps (WAC). The 6888th had 855 women, amongst whom were three Latinas, both enlisted and officers, and was led by Major Charity Adams.[1] It was the only predominantly all-black US Women's Army Corps unit sent overseas during World War II.The group motto was "No mail, low morale".The battalion was organized into five companies, Headquarters, Company A, Company B, Company C, and Company D.Most of the 6888th worked as postal clerks, but others were cooks, mechanics and held other support positions, so that the 6888th was a self-sufficient unit.

I had never heard this story before. The story of this unit is the kind of story that normally doesn't get told. Not just because it is a war movie about black Americans, which are pretty rare but have been getting more common as of late :). But also because it is about something that isn't necessarily glamorous. These ladies had to sort through 17 million pieces of mail in a short period of time. The Army had a massive backlog and important pieces of mail were getting lost. As well as pieces of mail that were important for morale, letters from home. It isn't storming Normandy but, it's the kind of work that makes storming Normandy happen. Also, their ship to Europe got attacked by German U-boats, which is pretty hardcore. I'm definitely interested in this one, really good actors.

Trailer looks decent. I hope the film will be as well. Otherwise I don't know a Tyler Perrys film that's has good ratings.

If you haven't already done so, I think you should check out A Jazzman's Blues and For Colored Girls. They are both pretty good movies.

Spoiler: It won't earn Any Awards.
It's a Tyler Perry Non-War/War Movie about Black Postal Workers. Should tell you all you need to know.

A trailer which showed less than 1 second of *Bradford,* the world's first *UNESCO City of Film.*
Just like most trailers of productions which filmed in *Bradford,*
Even though I can almost guarantee, it will be the main location in this film.

It's just going to be the annual movie that gets Diane Warren a song nomination but is a non-factor everywhere else.

I hope they provide balance though, yes they suffered from sexist and racist attitudes but the women actually documented the British treated them more as equals than America did

In the movie Battle of the Bulge, there is a scene where the German tank commander comments that a cake captured by the Germans is still fresh. The 6888th or a similar group would have delivered that cake to a US soldier on the front lines in December 1944. A fresh cake from home would have been a big morale booster.

This may be a Tyler Perry sponsored movie, but he certainly didn't write the script... Similar to the arrangement with Precious. Tyler Perry can do wonders with a Proper Team, but you know what happens when he hoards a project 😑💅🏾 Teamwork makes the Dream work, Mista Tyler Perry.

I'm not sure what you mean with Precious. That movie was directed by Lee Daniels.
