      Imnotslaying its a technical way to move the ball forward without kicking it to avoid losing the ball overextending it to much and exposing it to a rival . Brazilian men are experts in this.

      Have to agree watching Rose get the ball, be able to control the ball looking up, splitting the defense, where to kick the ball past the goalie. Just such a skilled female athlete, on a wonderful team!!! GO USA!!!

      yes, that it the key. She can dribble at near full speed with the ball at her feet while not focusing on the ball. In the slo mo view from the back of the goal you see her eyes go blank. That's when she has everything in her peripheral vision, she's looking at it all simultaneously. Then she fakes, cuts and only focuses in on the ball again when she needs to be precise for the shot. This would make a great training video for developing players - learn to dribble at speed without focusing on the ball. Easier said than done.

  • @CommaCam
    @CommaCam 5 лет назад +28

    8:14 Love this angle. She was in complete control, head up, knew where the gap was, and split the center backs apart with that subtle little feint. It produced the same effect as a step-over, but without any wasted movement.

    • @S0ulinth3machin3
      @S0ulinth3machin3 3 года назад +2

      Whether it's soccer, basketball, hockey . . . . . when a player can run at speed while having complete control over the ball/puck/what have you, without having to look at the ball/puck - that's when the player has reached a level of being very dangerous. In the head on sequence you mention, you can see her eyes and those eyes aren't focused on anything in particular during the dribble because she's looking at both the ball and the defenders via her peripheral vision. She doesn't focus on the ball until the very end when she needs to line up to take the shot. The way that she can dribble at speed with the ball right at her feet the entire time is something I've never seen an American player able to do at the world class level. Her dribbling touch is godlike. It's common to see world class players from other countries have that ability (Ronaldo Nazario, Messi, Zidane, etc. etc.) but not an American. Finally, we have one. She can't carry a team like those all time greats I mentioned, but when she flashes that brilliance every once in awhile, it's exhilarating. Finally we have one of ours who has that 'it' factor.

    @Buzbeto: I've been looking all over for different takes on this fantastic strike. I didn't realize til now it was Crystal Dunn's precise chipping the ball away from Van De Donk to Mewis that led to Lavelle's thrilling goal. It must have taken you a lot of effort to put this together. Thanks a ton!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      I recorded it off a feed from the Fox sports app. They don't post it to offer it for later viewing so I had to record it live. It took me some time to convert it for youtube posting. It took 4 terrific plays to create that goal. Dunn's steal, Mewis's recovery of the ball, spotting Lavelle making the attacking run, and Mewis making a perfectly weighted pass to catch Lavelle in-stride to touch towards goal. Not to mention Alex Morgan making an attacking run that occupied the Dutch defenders, creating space for Lavelle. Yes, Lavelle made a world-class play to score the goal, but without any of the other 3 players making key plays, including Morgan, that goal doesn't happen.

      I suspect because Lavelle's not a big star( yet) like Morgan and Rapinoe and they did not study her in depth. I could easily tell she's a great striker because of her ability to get off a "powerful shot" "through a narrow gap" "with little preparation( lesser strikers need to take time to line up their shot). Future looks bright for her.

      @@markdavis7397 Well, I commend you for restraining yourself from making harmless observations because other people _believe_ them to be harmful. I don’t think that you should ever abandon working out whether anything is fair or not though. Yes, that kind of enquiry is sometimes difficult (never “useless”, btw) but it’s always essential to progress.
      Like you, I don’t expect anyone to see through my lens ... but I do expect them to see through the lens of reality. Commenting on Rose Lavelle’s appearance in the way I did - I wasn’t vulgar or even halfway suggestive - was a benign action. That is a simple truth. Any woman that has an issue with what I said about Lavelle should remind themselves of the things other guys say about women online. Reality checks are good!
      Incidentally, I’d argue that the things I said in my first paragraph were much more interesting than my fondness for Lavelle’s appearance ... yet nobody’s asked me about those!! That says a lot.
      I regard myself to be a feminist i.e. I believe that, wherever possible, women should be treated as equally as men. So, if I can comment on a man’s appearance or pay him a compliment, then I should be allowed to do the same to a woman. If not, then there’s a double standard at play. A double standard that *undermines feminism* because it transposes the fight for _equality_ with a fight for _special treatment_ .
      Peace.

    A few things I noticed. While there were 2 defenders, #6 Dekker had to guard against Morgan streaking towards the goal and only committed to Lavelle at the last moment. That meant Lavelle was one on one against #3 van der Gragt.
    Against van der Gragt, Lavelle keeps pushing her towards her right side. And then Lavelle totally fakes going right with a subtle flinch as if she going to kick it hard right. As noon as van der Gragt sees Lavelle’s left foot go back, she takes off in the wrong direction and has to turn all the way around.
    By then Lavelle only faked a hard kick right and went left and shot the ball in the open space she created with her fake out.
