I always try to be as honest as possible. It’s why I started this channel! I was tired of the glossy fake reviews myself lol
Love the TRX4 for fun. I have a '79 Bronco and my friend has a "21 Bronco.
I recommend switching the order for the lockers so the rear engages first for a more realistic experience. Love getting as far as I can with open diffs, feel like it makes an overly capable rig more fun/challenging to drive on easier terrain. I also turn off TSM (gyro steering) when crawling.
Also definitely huge jump up with a Hobbywing Fusion pro SE. Best mod. Especially fun in conjunction with the cruise control. Also major wheelies until you add front brass. And yeah like with most stock steering servos it is on the weak side especially after you add weight and/or get in a tight situation. (I went with a shift XB and it does stall, but only at very heavy loads)
As for brass my friend and I bought black painted brass Injora front knuckles, inner and outer portal covers. Buying from Injora's store on Aliexpress to save some $$. If getting a brass front diff cover you will need a curved steering rod to clear it at full lock.
The controller blue tooth module lets you better control settings (such as steering endpoints or control your proscale lights if you get them). It also lets you see your pitch and roll and you can set an alarm parameter for when you reach your limits.
If you really fall in love, the Traxxas proscale light kit and even an ESS dual engine sound system and a winch just make it incredible. Nothing like doing recovery with friends.
(Personally I also have metal front and rear bumpers and some high clearance links and Timtins dual stage foams, Proline Hyrax G8 tires and Injora steel wagon wheels and Injora brass wheel rings. My metrics are pretty impressive for a scale rig with a full size battery.

Nice! Very good info! I actually have the Bluetooth module I could put in this one. If I get another transmitter that is lol. Already have a fusion se I’m gonna toss in it. Definitely gonna pick up a bit of brass soon and maybe go ahead and change the wheels and tires since everyone said the foams won’t last long lol
I have one of these that i bought last summet. I went with the metallic blue K10. Been running the truck bone stock with the exception of a proscale light kit and the truck has been awesome. Ive had zero issues. Its truly a great truck and i cant wait to add that new fcx10 k5 to my collection. In orange and white of course!

i love my defender; a spektrum receiver, fusion pro and a servo and its always a good time and reliable as shit. i crawl hard and put it away dirty all the time and it never skips a beat. i think i fully submerged it over the summer a handful of times and it never gave up. i was impressed with the performance out of the box but RC TNT did a crawler tire comparison video and the stock tires on the 4 are actually some of the best
I thought these tires did really well. Glad to hear I’m not crazy 😆 Can’t wait to start a few mods on it.
I love my high trail. I found the motor doesn't last too long in water but you can replace them cheap. I plan on going brushless eventually but with aluminum wheels wrapped in mudslingers,yeah racing axles and pro scale light kit I've got a super capable, super reliable fun truck without spending a fortune in upgrades

@2fmrc it's easy to do lol I forgot I did install a perfect pass monster steering servo early on,great servo! Ive been meaning to do more but it just works good as is. Pretty funny, I'm still watching your video right now so I feel like you're live 🤣🤘
Can’t wait to see the videos on it. I’m building my first 1/10 trail truck/ crawler gonna be a K10 body on a scx10 ii chassis, injora portals, an hobby wing fusion pro motor. Hopefully it works out well

Right on Matt, for the type of crawling you’re doing, is perfect that blue Ford is looking sweet dude, Jim Wolf got the Black one, and he just recently got the brown TRX4M Hi left, Ford, I got the Chevy it is sweet the black one.

I have the same truck love it picked it up for 450 pretty much new put a fusion pro loved the way the wheels looked painted flat washers and hot glued them in the back of the rims for weight sweet trucks
If you wanted a better comparison, traxxas has a K5 blazer high trail in a 313mm wheel base, unless the other company is running a longer wheel base.
Yeah I thought about getting that one but really didn’t want another blazer around. This way I kinda got two different trucks but can do a bit of a comparison. Not really going to compare crawling ability since they aren’t the exact same but mostly electronics and value of what you get.
Traxxas is a very great way to go...ther stuff rocks.....just a servo...u can dail up the drag brake and crawling mode by setting the settings..some lower weight and its becomes a line eater
I have the TRX6 G63 and have regretted buying it every since this was released. I love both this and the square body.
Rochobbly Atlas 1/10 has been my go to 10th scale. I don't see many around, maybe because aftermarket is nonexistent. But it seems to perform for me better than my trx.
I came for the fcx10 but guess the Traxxas will doooo 😂😂 great vid man keep it up with the solid reviews…. And where’s the rock kitty been😂
He’s been taking care of the mice around here. Starting to warm up and they on the move lol. I’ll have to see if I can get him back out crawling with me soon!

If this is your first crawler from Traxxas, then you have a pretty distorted picture of their crawlers. I have a Chevy K10 High-Trail myself, but I have also owned and driven other TRX4 and TRX6 models for years. Of course, the high ground clearance of the High-Trail is a plus, but also a disadvantage because of the relatively high center of gravity. In my opinion, if you want a balanced crawler from Traxxas, you should look for a TRX4 Ford Bronco or TRX4 Chevy Blazer.

the foams in the stock wheels will be gone in a week. i went through water in mine and the tires eventually went flat. the foams were totally deteriorated and broken down when i unglued the tires. i got some beadlocks and a new set of foams and re use the stock tires cuz they work great!
How did you unglue them , I ve had mixed results getting them off without ruining my tires 😊
I kinda figured they wouldn’t last long. I may print some inserts for it since I see me in the water a lot with this truck lol

Oh yeah! I’ve had 1/10s for years. Just never post on them. I’ve got about 10 other 1/10s now. Just never owned Traxxas crawlers before lol. I do way more with 1/10s than 1/24 honestly but usually when I post on them not many watch. Slowly gaining some 1/10 fans to the channel! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Bit of a coin toss, I guess, with the black windows. If you have a scale interior, clear is needed. But if you are going for all out scale, black windows hide the guts, and I kinda like that too.

Hey man I’d toss some lights on and beat it up anyway! You can always swap the lights into a nice body later, they’re durable and you can replace any worn or scuffed parts (like the headlight lenses themselves) separately
Yes! I love that about these bodies! I may have to do some lights if you say they hold up. That was really my main concern. I appreciate it
@@2fmrc they hold up really well! I’ve had to resolder a few small connections on the LED board itself (lost reverse lights on one corner) but nothing major, few minutes to fix. I’ve also rolled mine down steep MASSIVE hills man. I’m talking 30+ft of rolling then smashing into a tree so, kinda expected. They’re waterproof as well, I can confirm 😅🤣
@@2fmrc you can also make them work with aftermarket ESCs and motors, I can make a video explaining if you need, it’s kinda weird how it works and there arent many videos explaining it (well)

I run mine on 8S with a large brushless motor. They are as tough as a power drill.
Saaaayyyy, that's a nice fax machine on wheels sir 😂 Jokes aside, I'm still a fan of the TRX4. It's an old platform but it works, kinda like the Tamiya TT02 and the Kyosho Fazer platforms. I agree, the price could come down but it's still a good truck for what you get. Great video and a always, I appreciate your efforts and content.
Matt, on the shock shafts, there's little pill shaped limiters. I take them off and get more flex

Best looking tires (in my opinion) on these high trails is Prolines 1.9 Boggers, it just completes the lifted old body style truck look.

@@2fmrc I love em, hands down my favorite 1.9 tire. I got 3 sets of them, one with the tread in its original form, one cut for more advantage on the rocks and one cut for mud. I cut them the same way many people cut their treads on full size boggers. Very capable tire, easily modifiable to fit whatever needs you want it or simply leave it as is and it will still perform amazingly. Their only weakness in my opinion is the rubber is too thin for that big of a 1.9 especially the sidewalls. I've tried various ways to reinforce the inner lining of the tires, but there hasn't been a really concrete solution that I have found. Best method I've come up with is to tediously cut out sections of gorilla tape to take the form of the inside while still allowing it to be functional and believe me it is tedious.

Traxxas shocks are hard to beat in my opinion
I’ve got two sets of the big bores built for comp style crawlers. They’ve never leaked a drop in several yrs. Great shocks imo
I’m surprised you didn’t have a trx4. Cut the lugs and the tires are great… except the foams soak in water. The rims are vented.
The motor is a fail point. Maybe due to water, but I’ve seen a couple die in person. Put a 2n1 in it and a steering servo and a front mounted battery and they are fun and reliable.

@@JamesDirtRC it’s a great truck and gonna be quite a bit cheaper. It will definitely need a servo but besides that it’s better in every way imo. Just not really waterproof if that’s your thing & the stock servo didn’t even make it out on the trail for me. It died while playing with the truck in the garage lol

Throw a ISDT ESC70 for that traxxas esc. $25 and Bluetooth adjustable
I put one of those escs in a cen f350 I had and it lasted 1 run. It was absolutely terrible! May have just been mine cause I’ve seen good things on them but it would lock drag brake all of a sudden for no reason etc. I was going to do a video on it and I literally ran it in the garage checking it out a bit and it was pretty bad. When sitting still on flat ground it was constantly glitching and acting like it was holding the truck back on a hill or something. I shut it off to grab some stuff and head outside to see how it crawled a bit. When I tried to turn the truck back on the esc was dead. Wouldn’t even come on. I’m sure it was a fluke but it made me decide if I’m paying $25 for that thing I’ll just pay $70 for the fusion se that’s never let me down lol
That sucks. I have 4 of them in different trucks and even play submarine with one regularly. No issues with any of them. I forget how cheap the fusion has gotten. I also have a fascination with brushed motors as well

I dont have a 1/10 high trail but i do have a trx4 k5 blazer and that thing has been super reliable since ive got ive replaced alot of stuff over the 3 or 4 years ive had it and it just keep going and never left me disappointed in any way alot of the stuff i replaced was super cheap also did a trans overhaul recently and it runs like a dream again ill be comparing that to the fms when i get it it will be a blazer vs blazer day lol definitely looking forward to the release of the fcx10 so how cheap in price is the the fms is it around 400 to 500 or less ?
