    10:17 Torque wrenches! I see this a lot. I deal with this stuff daily, and everything from gnarly lug nuts to teeny tiny screws. Everything gets torqued. The torque value needed to click once means you've reached your desired torque. When you've gone and clicked 2-3 times "For good measure" you're adding additional torque stress to what you've just tightened. It's incremental, but it adds up especially, ESPECIALLY when you're dealing in high precision applications. So, basically one click, you're good. If you're working with a good quality torque wrench to start with, you'll hit it the first time.

    The "bumpy side" is created from a peel ply later that is used to pull the excess resin out during curing under pressure for easy deflashing and improved bonding.

    Those ER collets will absolutely get packed with carbon fiber dust. I don't have thru-spindle coolant so I don't have to worry too much, I just have to clean them out when changing cutters. It's still annoying though so do whatever you can to keep it out. Looking forward to seeing your filtration setup! Thanks John!

      If you have TSC a good way to clean is to just run it for a few seconds at the end of the cycle. Clears most junk out

    I've been around the knife community for so long and I've still never seen one of your blades/pens in person.
    King Pope Ceasar and Nick Shabazz first introduced me to them and I've been lurking ever since. Love how in depth your videos are!

    The front of the caliper gives you a nice flat surface for measuring depth when space allows.

    CA glue and accelerator is my favorite workholding on my CNC router. I once used it with blue painters tape and coolant on my mill and learned the hard way not to do that (had blue hands after).
    On my Speedio, I always add/remove tools from the center. I found the side access too awkward.
    Definitely interested in a coolant filtering video! My current way is to pump out with a Freddy afterwards, but have found fully emptying the coolant tank causes the CTS pump to loose its prime.

    For stickout and repeatability on setups. I started Making little 3d printed sleeves. This allows me to hold the tool safely, not risk damaging the flutes. Plus get a more consistent setup. Which is big cause I am using a machine that is manual tool changes, with no tool holder. This is huge for when i am having to really push the limits of the stick out of a tool for clearance reasons on a part. But it sure speeds things up and makes them more consistent :)

    Will you be making knives with inlays? Haven’t seen any. I’d like to see an inlayed Rask!

    I can’t wait to see your filtration video John. I have a 4 axis Syil X7 mill and would absolutely love to mill CF in it, as have so many things I could make in it, but I don’t want to destroy my crystal clear Blaser 735 coolant.
    Please do that video as soon as possible so I can learn from you.
    Cheers Rob.

    .006” of tape is a mile when you deal in two tenths work. Very cool how you kissed that layer of tape though.

    Thank you, I will be trying this technique and thank you for introducing me to De Boer Tool. I've been looking for an affordable and accessible tooling provider in the GTA. Do you do shop tours? I'm a recent graduate from GBC for CNC. Thanks again for your content, I truly appreciate the tips and tricks.

    Curious as to the choice in using a speedio vs. a more conventional large sheet router? We buy cheap Chinese diamond burr endmills and burn through them relatively quickly, but never have to worry about too much of a mess with vacuum.

    Remember to change the pullstud ever 8/12k tool change so they don't suddenly snap in the spindle ( don't ask me how I know that )
    Every time it pull it stretch the stud a little and put a little more stress in the stud and after anoth times it just snapped off ( agen don't ask me how I know )

    You could also run TSC so no Carbon Fiber gets in your Spindle and the tool is optimal cooled. I dont get it why al people think TSC is only for drilling i use on all tools i Can

      I run through coolant whenever possible, it's nice being able to see the tool and have the coolant going exactly where needed. But I'm doing one off's at my current job and only get one piece of material/shot for a part.

    Question. Why don’t you use high precision tool holders and collets. Those small tools would benifit hugely. Highly likely you are only cutting on one flute due to runout
    I’m thinking like centro p with 2micron runout. It’s not like they are even expensive

    • @ianagos4276
      @ianagos4276 11 месяцев назад +1

      Where can I get these non expensive 2um tool holders?

    • @SuperstarComponentsLTD
      @SuperstarComponentsLTD 11 месяцев назад

      @@ianagos4276 centro p from wnt. Bt40 with endcap and 2micron collet are on offer for £120 a holder.
      If it saves you by doubling your tool life it’s paid for in a couple of tools

    • @ewildgoose
      @ewildgoose 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ianagos4276I've been putting shrink holders into my Speedio. About £115/holder and the runout is sub 2 microns measured at the end of the flutes! (These are dual contact with a through coolant bypass spray). I'm pleased with them!

    • @ianagos4276
      @ianagos4276 11 месяцев назад

      @@ewildgoose that price isn’t what I’d call cheap haha but also you are in Europe. I seem to find some of the nicer stuff is much cheaper there. We have a capto machine and holders are much cheaper in Europe than here in the states.

    • @ewildgoose
      @ewildgoose 11 месяцев назад

      @@ianagos4276 it depends a little what you are comparing against. A basic dual contact BBT30 collet holder here is about £80 and a 5 micron collet is another £20-30. So the (BBT30) shrink holder is probably cheaper than the collet holder!
      However sure, you can also buy basic non dual contact holders for £20 or less. However, you were asking about sub 2 micron runout, I don't think you will get that from those...
      Another option is that yg-1 sells their stuff under white label brands. Seems that you can get white label yg-1 hydraulic holders for about £110 in bt40 (but I've not found bt30 options for sale)

      3M VHB (very high bond) tape is what Chris Reeves Knives use on the inlays on Sebenzas etc.

    What about using double sided tape?

    • @ewildgoose
      @ewildgoose 11 месяцев назад

      The tape is sticky when you cut into it and the sticky gets on the end mill. Then junk sticks to the end mill...

    You should stay away from the maritool pullstuds they are definitely subpar to something like a tj davies.
    Besides people who have had catastrophic failure.
    We did some test and we do lots of tool changes on a 27k spindle. The maritool ones deform very quickly and it will lead to jamming in the drawbar and just rough tool changes and a chance it fails catastrophic and destroys a spindle.
    That is my warn stay away from the maritool ones
    Also piss poor customer service is hey did not care at all about our problem and said their pullstuds are fine.
