    A low approach over KTTS was my first flight lesson. When I did it after I got my license, I realized how it’s sheer size messes with your visual perception.
    It’s easy to get a low pass if you know the guys up in the control tower.

    Ya know Cecil Field in Jax, FL was the alternate landing runway for Nasa. You can go do touch and goes all day long up there. I lived next to it when it was a Navy Base still. They are very friendly with amazing long runways, just class Delta now. Go have some fun :) Ask for the multiple touch and go on the same runway pass!

      @@LewDixAviation As a 72h TT PPL and with never having the option to start with the numbers but with the first intersection I only did 2 consecutive T&Gs so far when on 4 or 5 occasions I was offered the whole RWY by tower. As you can imagine that doesn't happen often as it's a busy international airport so I really had this happen to me on 2 sessions so far. But 3 should be no problem especially if you climb only back to like 150ft, I went just a tad higher to have a bit more time to stabilize.. But for you I bet you could do 4 easily and maybe even 5. The record by some guy in the club is 6 I think 😂(have to check that) And you really need a piper for this so you can work those flaps fast 😅😆

    Just curious - why would you fly without an iPad in that congested airspace? is it just the time it takes to set up the mount? Why not use the most obvious and dirt cheap thing that keeps you away from traffic?

    • @LewDixAviation
      @LewDixAviation  Год назад +2

      Preflight planning. I believe I had an EFB on my phone but having a clear plan allowed me to know exactly what route I would take and altitudes I’d maintain. Pilots these days are heavily reliant on EFB’s, and while I love them, I’ll never allow myself to become fully reliant on them.

    • @oneflewover1081
      @oneflewover1081 Год назад

      Great response to that question. Pilots need to know the basics of aviating. Planning your trip and knowing your airspace is a key fundamental. Especially when you are VFR. Your attention needs to be outside as much as possible. I love watching your videos for this exact reason. You’re a skilled and knowledgeable aviator that isn’t over reliant on electronics. More should learn from you. Greetings from a fellow professional pilot in the Central Florida area.

    So... what does the NASA controller do when there's no space landings going on, and there aren't any pilots around wanting to play tourist? Does he sit around all day playing games on his phone? Or is there actually enough air traffic in the area? (I did hear the controller talking to a helicopter at 11:30.)

      I have my plane based at X21 only a few miles to the West of that runway, so you may imagine I fly this low approach often, I've done it a lot and it really doesn't get old, especially when I take someone new up. Much of the time the tower is not manned and there is very little traffic out there that I've ever seen. They have some test planes (including 104 Starfighters) out there that use that runway and other flight ops and ground ops (testing ground vehicles on the runway) for the space center and some private industry. Most of the time I do the approach it's just self announce, pretty cool making position calls "NASA traffic..."
