I’ve come to realize that my anxiety while flying doesn’t necessarily come from the turbulence itself but rather having no idea of what’s going on and no way to tell if something’s off. If someone else is driving me I can tell if something is wrong, not so much with flying. Turbulence heightens the anxiety from that.
I feel like having one extremely terrifying turbulence experience is actually good for you as a long term flier. I had a crazy 13 hour flight from Korea that had 1.5 hours of pure turbulence, huge shifts and drops, over japan area due to a storm. I made sure I told him how impressed I was as I left the plane. I still get nervous though! Someone should create a parachute so if a plane loses power or something, we could just float down. I know, it's a dream.
It would be nice if the pilot would come on the loudspeaker when encountering turbulence and give all the passengers a sense of comforting. By saying that everything is fine and we’re going to climb to a different altitude to get through this turbulence or whatever they want to say. Just hearing the pilot address the situation and his solution will comfort everybody.
I hate turbulence 😣 and usually they are bad when approaching land from flying over the ocean. My last one was so bad this year that people were screaming and felt like plane was losing a lot of altitude at at once and you could REALLY feel it in your seat. People were clapping hands when we finally landed safely.

This guy has helped me so much and he doesn’t even know it. Calm, logical explanations and thanks to whoever added the animations!
One thing that helps me during a turbulence is lifting my feet so they don't touch the floor.
always remember, the wings are stronger than the cabin--so even if the plane's halfway to hummingbird and you can look down the aisle, it's good
I respect what pilots do so much. Aviation is fascinating.
As a survivor of thermal turbulence in 2018, I'm glad WSJ reminds me of those horrendous 6 seconds turbulence.
I always look at the flight crew if they’re not worried I’m not worried ... if I see them freaking out than we have a problem . Lol
A very informative 7 min video that is meant to convince you to wearing your seatbelt throughout the flight.
Propaganda
You can tell this Pilot knows his stuff due to how easy it is to follow his explanations.
Actually Turbulence and Sonic-Booms are caused by a rapid build-up of farts in the Stratosphere; I am a leading Aviation Physicist.
Excellent article. Understanding turbulence is the first step in conquering the fear associated with it.
I feel like having one extremely terrifying turbulence experience is actually good for you as a long term flier. I had a crazy 13 hour flight from Korea that had 1.5 hours of pure turbulence, huge shifts and drops, over japan area due to a storm. Captain told us it’s going to be “more than moderate” turbulence and he was right. Now I really don’t fear turbulence after sitting through that long and severe of it.
As a regional pilot that flies in the Rockies, can confirm mountain waves 😅.
Is your name pronounced emma-lye like Brook Shield’s character name in the movie “Blue Lagoon”?
I've flown over the Rockies from Vancouver to Edmonton, at night. Very empty plane. But it was shakey 😅 I was looking around in a panic but everyone else was so chilled lol
I invested with this website 👆 I made over 45k from them..
I have to admit that the video is extremely timely. I just took the plane today and was wondering about it.
This was very informative. Can't believe I actually watched it all. We need more lol
Thanks guys . I was the animator of this video.
This was a good video. I am afraid of turbulence. It has kept me from fly, more than I have. On my first flight to France, there was 7 hours of turbulence.
All the best Shaun of NYC
The downvotes are from the 4 types of turbulence. They hate us.
I’m definitely taking his advice and always trying to find the earliest flights possible. Thanks Captain!
As a pilot myself, I can say this was very informative and accurate.
Bro …am teen ,
And I wanna know if pilot life is fun or boring ?
@@Antonio-uc7vn How old are you? It's not an entertaining/fun job. It's a job a job that must be taken seriously and be treated delicately. Whether or not you have fun depends on your personality.
@@BonjourP bro am 16 ,
I don’t know what I want to become when I grow up ..
Sometimes I like to be Indiana jones ..exploring the all around the world ..exploring forests ..ancient monuments , just fun and adventure.
But at the same time i want Great income enough to settle anywhere in the world.

As someone with flight anxiety, I have no idea if this information is helping or hurting
The pilot wildly moving the model plane in the air to illustrate turbulence made my fear of flying even worse.
as a random guy not related to any of flying business, I truly appreciate this informative video
he guy who added animation in this video, deserves a raise.
This was extremely informative. Great job to the animator 👍🏾
I have question. How do pilots see wings and engines of the airplane?
I admire and respect pilots so much.
I went from someone who truly feared all turbulence to someone who is much more relaxed from simply understanding the science of turbulence.
Seriously... Huge props to the animators and graphic designers. This is top notch. Nothing compares!!
Excellent subtle video effect showing air currents around his model. 💛🙏🏼
I suggest you discuss the “Over the Ocean” phenomena where the air can literally abruptly cause an aircraft to drop hundreds or a thousand feet. Talk about “wake up call”! I hope to never have that happen again.
My mom during turbulence: *Anxiety*
Me: Snores violently
You're so tough
@@LincolnLagger I’ve been flying all my life so it’s nothing about being tough. It’s just getting used to it.
@@halvey8518 You’re a god
@@BB-re6nz Thanks, you too
@@halvey8518 How did you get so brave? I mean, taking turbulence while sleeping is one thing. But making a meme to show your bravery in such conditions is another. I’m intrigued.
On my first long flight, I went from California to Thailand....13hrs non-stop to Seoul, South Korea and the ride was so smooth that I didn't even believe we were moving, lol!!! It was incredible...never felt the slightest bump! The landings to me are the scariest! I remember though, one Delta pilot, landed so smooth that I never knew we were on the ground!!! I made sure I told him how impressed I was as I left the plane. I still get nervous though! Someone should create a parachute so if a plane loses power or something, we could just float down. I know, it's a dream.
Awesome! Captain, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. 😍✈️❤

27 years old and just had this question in my head. Thanks Cap
The animation made this video! So glad I'm going into this line of work.
I actually was looking for a different type of turbulence
My dad is a pilot… he told me the safest art of the plane is a seat over the wing
i dnt understand wht u said
It would be nice if the pilot would come on the loudspeaker when encountering turbulence and give all the passengers a sense of comforting. By saying that everything is fine and we’re going to climb to a different altitude to get through this turbulence or whatever they want to say. Just hearing the pilot address the situation and his solution will comfort everybody.
I completely understand your point but I think they are focusing to manage the flight over turbulence.
I am currently taking Aeronautical Engineering, and still learned so much from this video.
One of the most insightful and informative videos about flying I’ve watched. I have always avoided booking a seat adjacent to the wing 🤭
I hate turbulence 😣 and usually they are bad when approaching land from flying over the ocean. My last one was so bad this year that people were screaming and felt like plane was losing a lot of altitude at at once and you could REALLY feel it in your seat. People were clapping hands when we finally landed safely.
That's crazy! I flew to Denver and the turbulence during the descent was crazy. Almost felt like I was free falling.
I didn’t know I needed to know this but now I’m glad I know
Outstanding presentation!! Thanks Capt. Walker
very easy to solve turbulence phobia for most passengers - add a cockpit dashcam channel on passenger TVs showing the Pilots; if they appear calm and composed most people would feel relaxed.
Great explanations. Doesn’t change my complete fear of turbulence though after a horrible experience over the Midwest about 20 years ago.
Couldn't have been so bad. You are still boring those at your golf club with that same out repetitive story.
I didn’t know it before but I wanted to know that. Thank you 😊
