I've been super happy with the other Viltrox lenses I own for my Fuji system, so I have been tempted by this one for my Z cameras as 28mm is one of my favorite "walk around" focal lengths. Thanks for the review.
Thank you, Stephen! The lens actually did better than I thought it would. This lens is not in their pro line like the 75mm f/1.2 APSC lens that I reviewed recently is so I was expecting average performance but it did well I thought.
Seems like a nice lens. I know the video wasn’t about the Z6. But, for what you were doing, seems like it did a great job too. This setup would be a nice vlogging setup.
Thank you for your review of this interesting lens. I use Z6 as well, and I own both Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 and Z 14-30mm f/4, so the focal length is apparently covered in my gear. The question is, would a superfast 28mm like this add extra-value in terms of bokeh and out of focus rendering at fulle aperture for close-up subjects and environmental portraits? Thank you and whoever can comment on this
Thanks for your nice review and sample shots with this lens. I am planning to purchase the Nikon Zf so now I am looking at good lenses to go with it. Several reviews have given this lens a high rating. I own an old Nikon D300 that served me well, but is a bit outdated now, still works well. I almost switched to Fujifilm but was intrigued by this new Nikon Zf, its many positive reviews and because its a full frame camera. Since I am familiar with their ecosystem I will stay with them, and I can use some of my current lenses on both cameras with the FTZ adapter.
This is awesome! All three locals, you, Tim and I talked about 28mm lenses!!!😂🤷🏻♂️ That Viltrox looks to be a nice lens, thanks for going to the trouble to evaluate it for us.
Nice lens review! I have a Viltrox 56mm 1.4 for APS-C that I use on my ZFC camera and I like that a lot. I might have to try the 28mm 1.8. Looks like it would make a nice travel lens.
Good morning Phil. How's Heather and your daughter? I hope everyone is well. Nice to see you on RUclips all these years. I hope you get a Nikon Z8 and compare to your other Nikon and Canon cameras.
Good morning! Heather is doing well, she's been really busy working on her PhD. My daughter is also busy with college. We will see her next week at the Tennessee Georgia football game!
Hi, I just got the Viltrox 28mm f/1.8 for my Nikon Z6ii. The issue is that the lens has a bit of movement when mounted (very slight but noticeable). It was immediately obvious when I was moving the aperture ring. Otherwise the lens functions. I'm wondering if you have the same issue or if I just got unlucky and got a lemon. Great review btw.
I just ordered the Viltrox AF20mm f2.8 for my Z5 camera that is modified for 720nm infrared photography. I am considering the AF28mm f1.8 to keep costs down and have a change of look for my infrared photography. Have you seen any IR images made with this lens?
I like the Aperture Ring Markings >> The f1.8 Lens seems so well suited to the Z Cameras >> I have a 20mm f1.8 S for my Z7 for Milky Way >> Sharp Sharp out to far corners
Thank you! On a Z50 with it's 1.5x crop this lens will have the field of view of a 42mm lens on full frame. You'll still get nice results, but they won't be nearly as wide as these shots I made on the full frame Z6.
Great review Phil , I have a few Viltrox lenses for my Nikon cameras and very happy with the shots I capture .
Thank you!

Thank you! I have several APSC Viltrox lenses that I’m happy with, this is the first full frame that I’ve tried.
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always Phil 👍🤗
Thank you!
Great review! Looks like a nice lens. I thought the bokeh looked really nice. I liked the the bridge shot at the 6:29 mark.

The auto focus system of the Z6 is a little behind the times compared to newer cameras, but it is very capable of producing beautiful photographs.

It would give you a look that you can't get with 28mm at f/4.

Thank you, David! When you get your Zf, I'd love for you to borrow the Viltrox 28 and make a video if you want to! :)
nice , i like the one at 6:03 and then the bridge , and i love the turtle
Thank you, David!
Nice lens review! I have a Viltrox 56mm 1.4 for APS-C that I use on my ZFC camera and I like that a lot. I might have to try the 28mm 1.8. Looks like it would make a nice travel lens.
Thank you! I have the apsc 56mm 1.4. It's really nice!
Good review Phil. I have this lens and it’s great for street photography and a lot of other things too. For the price it’s pretty good value 👍🙏
Thank you, Adrain!

Sorry to hear that. Mine fits great.
@@PhilThach I just ordered a new one. So hopefully that one is fine. Thanks for the reply!
I love me some 28mm!! That 1.8 is sweet. Good review!
Than k you, Tim! This zoomer is really starting to enjoy 28mm primes.
Great review and photos.
Thank you, Leon!

I'd love to have that 20mm for astro. I just never do astro, I'd love to do it but it happens too late at night for my tastes! LOL
Can the Nikon AF hold up with the speed of this wild animal? Not sure...
🤣😂🤣
Great review, and it looks like a really good lens! 👍👍 Nikon has yet to come out with a 28 1.8 Z lens, so this will fit the bill nicely!
Thank you!
@@PhilThach 👍👍
4:36 Ah yes, the road turtle in his natural habitat
😂🤣😂
Very nice photos, cool lens!
Thank you!
Great images. Can I get similar results with this lens on a Z50?

@@PhilThach The 13mm 1.4 viltrox arc z mount looks interesting too!
Yes, the 13mm f/1.4 is a nice lens. I have a few videos about it on the channel.
Seems like a very nice lens. Not for me since I already own the Sigma 28 F1.4 and the pancake 28 f2.8
Sounds like you enjoy using 28mm! 👍
