There are some errors: The flag (red-white-red) was not from the beginning. It was inherited from carinthian counts in the 13th century. Melk was also not the first capital, but the second. The first capital was Pöchlarn, not too far from Melk (in high medieval German: Bechelaren, which is also mentioned in the Nibelung saga as the residence of the fictive character Rüdiger von Bechelaren). The video also depicts the whole Province of Lower Austria as Austria from the beginning in 976 AD. But in the beginning it was only a small strip of land (several miles wide) on both sides of the Danube river from the mouth of the river Enns to approximately where the town Melk is. Austria only became the size of the Province of Lower Austria continuously by conquest of the Babenberger margraves (later: dukes) among the slavic tribes in that area and the immigration of Bavarian and Frankish settlers (mostly farmers and monks) until around 1200 AD.
@@AnAlbanianDude No problem. Austria has existed as part of Bavaria since 996. From 1156 as a separate state within the HRE. Germany has existed since 1871 when Otto von Bismarck united it. Riots, clashes and unrest in Vienna these days between Kurds and Turks. No wonder with at least 50% foreign population in Vienna. Nice future for Austria!
i live in austria but don't act like the austrian government is completely innocent. why do they allow kurdish separatist groups to demonstrate almost everytime they want but almost never allow it for turks? for turks they say that they don't want foreign politics in austria. is the so called "kurdistan" in austria? why are they allowed then? there will always be conflicts if you let people demonstrate about foreign politics in your country. the government should allow it for both groups or if they don't want any foreign conflicts in austrian territory at all then they shouldn't allow such demonstrations for anybody. if you ask me both groups shouldn't demonstrate because that's a conflict where austria has nothing to say about and this won't be solved by demonstrations in vienna. a lot of immigrants live in austria and if you ask me most of them get along very well if they follow only one simple rule: NEVER talk about politics. you can find a lot of turks who are good friends with kurds and armenians, bosnians and albanians and even kosovars who are friends with serbians and other friends whose countries usually don't get along very well. as an austrian with turkish heritage all i can say is that these conflicts have no place in austria at all. but if you allow a group to demonstrate then you should also allow it to the other group. you can't just let one group speak and don't allow it for the other group.

don't say that in austria because austrians don't really like them at all. the habsburgs are mostly made fun of. i live in austria but austria is one of the countries that mostly ignores their history or they don't really feel connected to it. it's also a bit normal because after ww2 this country developed a completely different national identity. today's austrian republic is very different from the austrian empire. for example today's french people would talk about their history a lot and be proud their achievements, same as the spanish people or turks or the english when they speak about their past. but austrians don't really talk about that. they aren't very obsessed with their past and if they talk about history it's mostly about ww2 (of course in a negative way, austrians are ashamed of the war crimes and mass killings during this period and are very sorry for it)

I think there's some confussion here. Why is Spain shown 1519-1556 ? Because it looks like the video is stating Spain was part of the Archduchy of Austria. Do the video want to show territories held by the Archduchy of Austria or territories under the House of Habsburg?
Is it correct to call Styria, Tyrol, Carinthia, Kraina "Archduchy Austria"? After all, these were states separate from Austria, but only ruled by one dynasty
@@Maxii814 It's Habsburgermonarchie, not the Duchy of Austria. Later those duchies became part of the Archduchy of Austria and the other kingdoms of the Empire of Austria.
King Ottokar II was duke of Austria since 1251 till 1276, also duke of Styria, Carinthia and Margrave of Carniola. At the height of his power his rule over Austrian lands was quite firm a stable, so I would not call this period as "interregnum".
Railman 600 Or the peak of Spain Lol, that was the spanish empire under Charles I. With America’s too. I don’t know why they put that spain was part of Austria when was Austria part of Spain LoL. In fact that king ( fernidand I) was born in Alcala de Henares and never was a spanish king , was his brother Charles v of Germany and I of Spain
Railman 600 I don’t care bro, but I don’t see accurate 🤷🏻♂️, simply that Spain was an empire not part of Austria; and Netherlands, part of Italy, French county and Belgium (Flandes) was spanish no Austrian in that time.
this is more the hasburg dynstaty as spain was never ruled by austria the nation/kingdom. Dynstaties can rule multiple nations/kingdoms and not be united into one nation/kingdom. evidence is that the german/british/russia leaders in wwi were all cousins to one another, where if they wanted to they could be all from the same dynstaty but obviously the UK germany and russia never been one nation.
You are right for the most part. But Spain and Austria were in a personal union for the short years Charles V was Archduke cause he abdicated for his brother. He remained Holy Roman Emperor until his abdication.
@@Wyatt_does_Stuff personal union don’t mean crap. All it means is a close alliance. Today the eu is a personal union (a bit more connected bc of economic and some policy ties), and nato is a perfect example of a modern day personal union. A personal union doesn’t mean two or more nations are one country now. That’s why again you never see maps of Austria controlling the spainish as one nation as maps. Or why you never see Poland and Hungary as one country on any historical map. Bc they never were even when they were in a personal union for like 2 years but all it meant back then was one king controlled two nations armies. Poland still had its own rule of itself and policies ma laws separate from Hungary. Same with the personal union of Hungary and Croatia until the Croatian king died with no heir and Croatia was split between Austria and Hungary, or just two states of Austria. You can argue Austrohungary was a personal union, but again no, the maygars with the help of Slovaks Serbs and Romanians (by manipulating them) reveled against the Austrians and allowed the kingdom of Hungary to be an autonomous kingdom within the Austrian Empire, yeah they think they were cool to get Hungary in the Austrian empire name but it was still mainly Austria that had the power and control. They just let maygars get some autonomy and credit to prevent another major civil war after 1848-49. Like how stupid Czechs made the illusion to Slovaks they share a nation (union) when Czechs just ruled over Slovaks and forced all Moravians to be Czechs and slowly try to make Slovaks into Czechs. Again a perfect understanding of a personal union is to look at nato and the European Union. Yeah they are connected in some ways but they are not one nation. No one but stupid Americans think all the nations in the eu are one nation. They get it confused bc america is a union, but america is a federation of small states (territories). If one USA state breaks away its a civil war. In the eu there is no federal state or head official, sure some nations like france and Germany have more control of the union compared to Greece or Croatia or slovakia, but like we saw with the uk when one member breaks away no major war happens. In short a personal union is just a strong alliance between two nations, it can lead them to unite as one but until a federalized system between them form to make them one they are separate but close nations.
@@Wyatt_does_Stuffthat is true but still. Showing the Premyslid years as "interregnum" makes it pretty clear that this video wants to show Habsburg and not Austria as a country.
You excluded the rule of Ottokar II the Iron and Golden King, Duke of Austria from 1251, Duke of Styria from 1260, as well as Duke of Carinthia and Margrave of Carniola from 1269 to 1276. You should have include "occupied by", not interregnum when there was none. Now it looks that Austria was indempendent in this timeline, just without a ruler. Same with Vladislas, Margrave of Moravia 1246-1247.
Thats Přemysl Otakar II, his grandfather Přemysl Otakar united Bohemia, Moravia and part of Silesia, got heritable primogeniture title of Kingdom of Bohemia. And he is not so popular becouse most people dont know our history and thats a shame. Also he is quite overshadowed by Charles IV.
In 1278 the Hungarian King's huge army has won the battle of Dürnkrut (Marchfeld) for Rudolph I of Habsburg against the Czech king and this has been the point from which the until then relatively unknown Habsburg family has gained power. In case the Hungarian king has not won for Rudolph, Austria would may not even exist today.
@@stefanbocevski7974 "Reclaim"? You talk bullshit. The 1278 comment was on that it has been Hungary enabling the rise of the Habsburgs and not the opposite. Hungary has been the dominant power in the region until the Ottomans invaded the half of the world including the whole Balkans, north Africa etc. And it has been Hungary being the main power to stand against the Ottomans for centuries. That has been the main reason Austria (a duchy not a kingdom) has been saved for long.
And so typical Austrian attitude that the monument erected on the spot of the battle did not indicate the Hungarian King as belligerent but only the Habsburg and the Czech king, while without the Hungarian King's assistance the Habsburg would have been defeated. After many years the monument was erected, the request of a Hungarian civil team dedicated to history traditions has been needed to erect a supplementary plate that names the Hungarian King also. Those old (cold-war) superiority complexes...
Comments like this talking of "Austria wouldn't exist-Hungarian King besieged Vienna-backstabbed at Habsburg-Ottoman wars" IS BS! Cant people talk about regular stuff other than these comment wars?!

Riots, clashes and unrest in Vienna these days between Kurds and Turks. No wonder with at least 50% foreign population in Vienna. Nice future for Austria!
yep because evil multiculturism destroyed everything and racism rise again europe
i live in austria but don't act like the austrian government is completely innocent. why do they allow kurdish separatist groups to demonstrate almost everytime they want but almost never allow it for turks? for turks they say that they don't want foreign politics in austria. is the so called "kurdistan" in austria? why are they allowed then? there will always be conflicts if you let people demonstrate about foreign politics in your country. the government should allow it for both groups or if they don't want any foreign conflicts in austrian territory at all then they shouldn't allow such demonstrations for anybody. if you ask me both groups shouldn't demonstrate because that's a conflict where austria has nothing to say about and this won't be solved by demonstrations in vienna.
a lot of immigrants live in austria and if you ask me most of them get along very well if they follow only one simple rule: NEVER talk about politics. you can find a lot of turks who are good friends with kurds and armenians, bosnians and albanians and even kosovars who are friends with serbians and other friends whose countries usually don't get along very well.
as an austrian with turkish heritage all i can say is that these conflicts have no place in austria at all. but if you allow a group to demonstrate then you should also allow it to the other group. you can't just let one group speak and don't allow it for the other group.

don't say that in austria because austrians don't really like them at all. the habsburgs are mostly made fun of. i live in austria but austria is one of the countries that mostly ignores their history or they don't really feel connected to it. it's also a bit normal because after ww2 this country developed a completely different national identity. today's austrian republic is very different from the austrian empire.
for example today's french people would talk about their history a lot and be proud their achievements, same as the spanish people or turks or the english when they speak about their past. but austrians don't really talk about that. they aren't very obsessed with their past and if they talk about history it's mostly about ww2 (of course in a negative way, austrians are ashamed of the war crimes and mass killings during this period and are very sorry for it)
You have not shown the Hungarian Rákóczi revolt from 1703-1711, which took out much of the Hungarian territory from the Habsburg empire.
Royal Hungary was the symbol of the continuity of formal law after the Ottoman occupation, because it could preserve its legal traditions. but in general, it was de facto a Habsburg province.

In german, it makes more sense, because today Germany and Austria were a big Germany(German tribes) before 1000s of years, then they split up into Prussia and Austria, but they both collapsed, Austria earlier than Prussia but they did both and now they are still splitted but today Germany has the same name as Germany when the tribes fought against romans. I think there's some confussion here. Why is Spain shown 1519-1556 ? Because it looks like the video is stating Spain was part of the Archduchy of Austria. Do the video want to show territories held by the Archduchy of Austria or territories under the House of Habsburg?
They were in personal union under Charles V from 1519 to 1521, the division would be formalized in 1556.

Or the peak of Spain Lol, that was the spanish empire under Charles I. With America’s too. I don’t know why they put that spain was part of Austria when was Austria part of Spain LoL. In fact that king ( fernidand I) was born in Alcala de Henares and never was a spanish king , was his brother Charles v of Germany and I of Spain
At the time Spain was under the house of hapsburg that’s why they put them apart of Austria
Railman 600 yes but spain was not part of Austria , if Spain was part of Austria ... Mexico and all Americas too 🤣😂😂
4:50 if you dont want it to include Spain then here
Railman 600 I don’t care bro, but I don’t see accurate 🤷🏻♂️, simply that Spain was an empire not part of Austria; and Netherlands, part of Italy, French county and Belgium (Flandes) was spanish no Austrian in that time.
this is more the hasburg dynstaty as spain was never ruled by austria the nation/kingdom.

Thats why they always fought to reclaim hungary after its fall to the ottomans!
