Considering that we're talking about the successor states to the Margraviate of Brandenburg--the Duchy of Prussia, the Electorate of Brandenburg-Prussia, the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire--it's very appropriate music. :D

    I have only one, tiny little correction which does not affect the video, becuase it is great and obvisously you spent time with it and I really enjoyed it. :) The correction: The Austro-Hungarian Empire actually had two capitals, Vienna and Budapest (before 1873: Pest). You could have shown it, just like you did it with Brandenburg-Prussia. But again, it is just a tiny little correction and thanks for the video. ;)

    • @PeterRidilla1001
      @PeterRidilla1001 9 лет назад +2

      Sure, but main capital was Vienna, something like in South Africa

    • @fady_abdulnour
      @fady_abdulnour 9 лет назад +17

      Peter Ridilla No, Austria-Hungary was a dual state, Vienna was the capital of the Austrian Empire, and Budapest (Dániel Veres before 1873 it was, constitutionally as a singular city, Pest-Buda) was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, and these entities were coequal with each other from 1867. PS.: Although I'm Iraqi, I live in Budapest since I was born, my father lives here since 1983, and my mother since 1989. :)
      Dániel Veres Tény, hogy Budapestet formálisan 1873-ban egyesítették, de az előtt Pest-Buda volt a város neve, habár ténylegesen az még két külön város volt, és persze sokkal kisebb területűek, hiszen a mai méretét nagyrészt 1950-ben nyerte el. Visszatérve Pest-Budához, vagy ahogy legelőször Széchenyi említette, Buda-Pest, 1848-tól lett főváros, leszámítva 1849-ben és 1944-ben egy kis rövid periódust, amikor Debrecen volt az ideiglenes székhely. Ajánlok neked egy linket, mert szerintem fontos azt tudni, hogy pontosan mikor mi volt Magyarország fővárosa: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Hungary#Capital_cities :)
      Egyébként Pest önmagában még sosem volt központ, a török idők előtt viszont, még mielőtt Pozsony lett a főváros, csak Buda volt a király székhely, önmagában, Pest szinte csak a XIX. századi fejlődése miatt lett a főváros része. És mivel az már akkor is nagyobb területű volt, azért mondták Pest-Budának, de, Széchenyi után sokan, pl. a 12 pontban is Buda-Pestnek mondták, ami elkerülte a mássalhangzó-torlódást, sőt, pl. Arany János a Toldiban egybe is írta (Budapest). Végül ez lett az egyesített város neve, már csak azért is, mert Óbuda Budapesthez csatolásával a budai oldal nagyobb lett (Óbuda szintén néhány évtizedig, viszonylag rövid ideig Budához tartozott, aztán újra önálló település lett, de ez a 19. század első fele, vagy inkább a közepe tájékán volt, és végül 1873-ban Budával és Pesttel egyesítve, ismét a főváros része lett, csak már Pesttel együtt, immár formálisan is). A Pesti oldal csak 1950-ben lett sokkal nagyobb, amikor kb. 20 települést hozzácsatoltak, meg 1954-ben Szigetszentmiklóstól Hárost (ma Csepel-Háros), bár kisebb-nagyobb területeket 1873 és 1950 között is szerzett. (hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagy-Budapest
      hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_ker%C3%BCletei
      egykor.hu/images/2010/original/budapest-budapest-keruletei-1873-ban-1930-ban-1950-ben-.jpg)
      Szóval Budapestet egyébként hívták Pest-Budának, Buda-Pestnek és Budapestnek (de Pestbudának nem). :D Nagyon sajnálom, bocsi, hogy ilyen hosszasra sikeredett a komment. :) Még egy fontos link, amit figyelmedbe ajánlok: hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest#A_n.C3.A9v_eredete

      Me And I More precisely Zagreb was the capital of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia, while Budapest was the the seat of the sovereign, who belonged to the personal union. At least traditionally. Because of the real union between Hungary and Austria, Vienna was this royal seat. It is complicated. :D
      By the way I made some further readings and I must admit, that Vienna was the real main-main capital, but officially both Vienna and Budapest were in the Empire.

    • @flyingsquirrel1135

      @parpanbacyrcym It wasn't a state by a modern definition. It more resembled the Boer state. The Teutonic order was a theocratic regime and army that happened to be inhabiting a track of land.

I'd like to comment though about Spain which you marked as part of the Austrian kingdom between 1521 and 1555 under Ferdinand I that the Spanish kingdom wasn't annexed by the Austrian but was led separately by Ferdinand's brother Charles I of Spain (V in the Holy Roman Empire) while Ferdinand led the Holy Roman Empire together with Austria in the name of Charles, so although he never combined them both, it would've been more appropriate to add the Holy Roman Empire than Spain

    I think that you have a mistake around the years 1600 where you have "Rudolf V" as the archduke of Austria. I believe he was Rudolf II, but maybe that was his title as the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and not as an archduke so you might be correct after all. Also the royal family has moved to Prague, so maybe the capital is wrong as well, but again I'm not sure if moving the family means moving the capital...

    Who won in the end? Austria has been reduced to a small state. Prussia no longer exists, but has left behind one of the most powerful states in Europe with Berlin as its capital, dominating the European Union. One could say all small German states rebelled against Prussian and Austrian power and created a third, more Western-cultured German great power.

    Why did the Austrian empire turn into Austria-Hungary?

    • @EmperorTigerstar
      @EmperorTigerstar  10 лет назад +43

      LordCucumber Hungarian nationalism came up and the Hungarians wanted independence so the Austrians and Russians had to crush the revolt. Later on, such prospects of another uprising occured again so the Austrians to play it safe gave the Hungarians "their own kingdom" ruled by the same monarch but in theory their own.

    • @machtharry
      @machtharry 10 лет назад +8

      Big part of it were the Austrian defeats in 1866 against Prussia and Sardinia-Piedmont as well. Austria´s weakness was shown to the world and it lost its influence over the south-german states and Lombardia. A weak Austria couldnt affort to stay in internal conflicts with the hungarians as they were the largest minority in the empire and there was no point in staying "one of the german states" anymore as Prussia controlled all other german states now. Before 1866 the german unification movement was split into 2 groups. One wanted a "smaller german empire" with prussia as the leader and excluding austria. The other part wanted a "greater german empire" including all german states under austrian leadership. After Prussias victory the second option had no real chance anymore, so as said there was no point in staying a "german" state.

      Google the Austro-Hungarian compromise.

    • @-Eisenfaust-
      @-Eisenfaust- 3 года назад +2

      @@machtharry That's not true about the Great and Small Germany. It was Bissmarck who brought the "small and large German solution" into play. Both options should be under the leadership of Prussia. Austria simply wanted to preserve the acquis, that means a German Confederation under Austria and a North German Confederation under Prussia. Bissmarck wanted to create a homogeneous German state, with the integration of Austria, where Hungarians, Czechs etc. also lived, that would not have been possible. Prussia would also have taken over the unrest of the National Movement from Austria, which was not in their interest. An inclusion of Austria without the "non-German parts" would have meant a great loss of territory. These territories could also have fallen under the influence of other great powers (Russia, France, Britain). Bissmarck therefore wanted to have a second powerful German state preserved. Prussia and Austria were both still great powers, which had a great influence together. So for Bissmarck it was better to have two great powers under German hegemony than one German empire and several new independent states which could come under the influence of enemies.

      @DibbzTheLoner 9 лет назад +2

      undo.kat Well no, it became an archduchy long before the Habsburgs gained power in Spain.
      They forged a document to promote themselves from a Duchy to an Archduchy (a term they pretty much just made up), to give themselves additional powers and rights within the Holy Roman Empire (a major confederation of German and Italian states).
      The Holy Roman Emperor at the time refused to put the document into effect, since it was obviously fake, so they had to wait until a Duke of Austria was elected as the Holy Roman Emperor, at which point he could put it into effect himself.
      The long term effects of becoming an Archduchy meant that they held additional leverage in the Holy Roman Empire, making it easier to convince the electors to elect Habsburg Archdukes to the position of Emperor.

      "Who the fuck has the authority to dont allow such a thing ? NO ONE."
      Probably the people which just fought and won a war that lasted 6 years, claimed tens of millions of lives and in the lead up to which included the annexation of neighboring countries by Germany including Austria, Czechoslovakia, (attempted Poland) in order to form a 3rd Reich. Those same people that allowed Germany to rebuild after WW2 rather than dismantling the entire nation like after WW1. It's the same reason that in the German anthem, the verse "deutchland deutchland uber alles, uber alles in der welt" was removed and why Germany has very strict laws on Nazism. Don't you guys have to cartoon depict Hitler in electronic media now (new law)? Yeap. The winner of the war writes the history and the rules, the person/s which bombed them into the next stone age had exactly that authority. Now on the up side, the Germans accept responsibility for what they did. Japan for example refuses to accept that they killed tens of millions of Chinese civilians, they don't learn it in a school history class, frankly that's quite frightening, they were just as brutal if not more.
      Germany's politicians have done allot of work in the past 70 years to acknowledge what happened and improve relations with neighboring countries, some requirements were forced from outside. When a country is absolutely defeated in war it's called an unconditional surrender, that means XYZ owns your ass now, you cannot say no to any demand. That's why the war lasted until Hitler blew his brains out with the Soviets in Berlin and the Americans to the west, and the rest of the country in ruin.
      The more you know.
