These boring heads are an engineering work of art. I seen a similar Narex boring head at HGR for $150 I jumped right on it to find out I was too late. One day I will find one without paying an arm and a leg for it

Pretty sure the 3 works a bit differently, unless you have the wide version. The smaller heads only have a single speed drive, the bigger ones use those pins to vary the distance per rotation.
I’d never seen a Wohlhaupter before, let alone one that large. I can see my Bridgeport wouldn’t like it. I’ve got a much smaller Swiss boring facing head. I’ll send you pictures. The shank is a taper I’m unfamiliar with an integral to the tool, but with an adapter I can use it my 30 NMTB Bridgeport. Jewelry. Cheers, Will
You are lucky on the adapter, I have confessed that the Wolly here was for a Sip jig bore, and like a pretty far up the ladder hillbilly I cut the integral special shank off, then machined it so to fit everything else. I found I liked the 30 taper Bridgeport, most seem to prefer the R8. I would expect your head is for a jig borer and was extremely expensive. A unhappy Sip owner informed me years ago that the head cost $9000. But I have used the head on multiple machines.
@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision My Bridgeport E-Z Trac quill was changed out from the standard R-8 by an old friend of mine who died suddenly about 10 years ago. The Erickson quick change setup on the bottom of the 30 taper spindle wasn’t compatible with a lot of non-Erickson 30 taper tool holders so just recently installed a Kurt power draw bar. Now it is a dream to use. So much nicer than the R-8 system.
Very interesting. My Kuroda’s are the smaller type (the 2 and 3), and they work much differently than the bigger models. I always wondered how the bigger ones pins worked. Great explanation.
@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision Kuroda Precision and MST both made licenced versions of the Wohlhaupter designs here in Japan. The quality is equal to the originals IMHO, and are pretty common on the local auction sites. I bought and refurbished several of them, they are such beautiful little clockwork machines.
Really have been enjoying your videos Donie. I have a Narex VHU6 which uses 5/8 tooling and a Gamet that uses 3/4 tooling. These are one of those things that sit around a lot but when you need them they are a life saver. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos.
Donie. I have a made in Japan KKS UFB-3 MOORE boring and facing head. I got with the integral Moore shank. However, your going to hate me for this but I had to cylindrical grind the shank down to .750 dia. to fit my Bridgeport. I do not have a Moore Jig Bore so the sacrifice had to be made. The up side is is that I traded some surplus items for it that I had little money in those items. I have bored, faced and put in snap ring grooves with it. I love this tool.
And we are both Evil, I took an abrasive cut off wheel and savagely cut off the integral Sip jig bore shank and machined the back of this $9000 Wolly to fit other machines and I did it with a certain hillbilly grin.....
We have a narex that is just like that. I use it on the boring mill all the time so I don't have to put the large facing head on. It's an awesome tool.

I have seen these things show up in boxes or lots of tooling for sale unnoticed, most that even know what they are dead or on oxygen. Narex is good.

Yes very much like engaging the cross feed and long feed at the same time on a lathe, but you have a little more control.

it looks like you just removed the factory cosmoline.
The head is in good shape but dull from micro scratches, a layer of thin oil fills those in, the cameras one eye enhances that effect.
