HEY DAN-O! when you put the red Kyber Crystal in the Saber, the first thing that I thought was THE BLACK LOOKED RED AND THE UNPAINTED PARTS LOOKED WHITE. The reason I noticed this is because it reminded me of the POWER AND CONTROL KYBER CRYSTAL! Just a cool thought I felt like sharing

I’m going to Disney this Friday and getting my first savis workshop lightsaber. I am totally gonna make this blade and buy a obsidian crystal on amazon or something. This literally looks so awesome
That blade and the red kyber crystal reminded me of kylo’s unstable blade. And since they didnt make a cracked red kyber crystal that has the unstable blade there is something you can use to replicate that now obviously you wont have the flashing and the different noises that kylos lightsaber does but it still works.

I am a HUGE Star Wars KotOR/KotOR:TSL fan, and also a new fan of The Dan-O Channel! I am very interested in buy some "scrap metal" from Savi's Workshop. Now, I think I will get an extra blade (36") and try this Dark Saber Mod. Keep it real and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!
This is the video I've been looking for. The only thing I would change is the thickness of the blue tape masking... it's too wide and lets too much light through. They should be maybe half the wideness if not more narrow. Other than that, it is very nice.
Love the look of your Darksaber and the Red Darksaber was amazing too. I'm going to Batuu in Anaheim later this year and will be making my first Lightsaber, I'm so hyped for it I can't wait. I and I'm sure a lot of other viewers of your channel, would be interested in seeing what your Darksaber modified blade looks like with the purple Kyber crystal.
This is what I've been saying for the longest time. You don't need to make something glow black. You just need to have a black blade, with some white parts, and use a white crystal.
Looks absolutely amazing this is a very similar technique that i use to paint camo! It really is a great method because all those little mistakes add to the overall effect just like you stated. Great job brother. Would love to see some of your other creations even if you dont film the process

It's cool that you've tried something custom, but I actually think it looked pretty terrible lit up. The dark parts are still transparent to the point that they give off this purple sharpie marker color that looks pretty cheap. You should probably try black electrical tape or some thicker material to put inside of your blade slave.
I love this as a proof of concept, and I think it shows that black paint can look even more amazing with layering. What I am thinking might be as simple as just adding another thin layer of black paint to the whole blade. Make your current black parts even darker and make your white parts look more like the current black-that-lets-light-through. Then just scratch tiny lines of paint in the center of the lighter areas to give a tiny bit of white cracks showing through. Or, to go all out, find someone who can mold the casing into a 'flat' blade, paint most of the flat side black with crackling near the blade and let the blade edge shine white. Then smash the Styrofoam sleeve to fit inside the new shape. Not that I could do any of that myself, it would just be super cool :)
You are correct. I later went back and painted the whole thing black with a few more coats. Then scratched the paint off in the same design and it worked soo much better for sure.
@@Dan-O that is AWESOME! I am just now obsessing over all of this as I am planning my family vacation to Disney world for later this year. The first thing I told our planner assistant was 'I want to build a lightsaber'...even before talking about what my kids want :) I'm seeing most videos are from 4 years ago, I almost missed the updated pieces...I was disappointed to see that the wood maze piece is gone, that was my favorite. And I like the rancor tooth better than the new pommels. But I am definitely still an Elemental Nature, would be nice if I could get an orange crystal/blade to go with it. Thanks for all these videos, they are great.
Hey Dan-o or anybody I just wanted to talk to you about the coronavirus. I was supposed to go to Disney in April but because of the coronavirus I can’t. The reason why is because my grandma has a lung problem and we don’t want her to get it. It sucks too because I just saved up enough money to build a lightsaber. Thank you for the videos. Just a little addition if any of you want to do even more to this. If you know what you’re doing (or referring to a yt tutorial) you can change out the sound chip to use the dark saber noises. It takes a little bit of work but I ended up doing it with my Ahsoka blades and it’s quite fun.
I just hope one day they'll convert the black crystal's technology to make it officially black instead of red, so we can have actual darksabers. But this is pretty cool idea. :)
How about this, find a foam piece in the shape of a long rectangle enough for the LEDs and this is the tricky park, find a acrylic tube in the shape of a ling rectangular and connect it to the black part of the saber, that's how you make the saber part

The worst part was the tearing little pieces of masking tape. The painting was just a quick spray.

When Dan put the red kyber crystal in the hilt,the blade turned into a red-ish color and it looked super cool
I think that blade is very similar to the Kylo Ren's unstablized lightsaber blade. I love it!

I think a little heavier on the paint would made the light shine more throught the unpainted parts giving it that perfect dark saber look
