I have been lifting for 30 plus years , and only now have been shown the proper way. I have spent 5 bench sessions so far getting the technical aspect down. It is tough . thank you dave for sharing this .
The section @20:07 addressing lift offs could be (and should be) its own video. Dave, thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience - I've learned a lot from you.
The amount of value in this freaking video.... Holy crap. I search the web a few hours a day before bed (I know, late screen time is not great) and this is the best shit I've ever found, really amazing.
21:08 “let them take the majority of the weight but still lift like 60% of it” lmfao Jk this is some great advice. I’d like to see Dave pick my bench apart
I have the same issue on the bench that Dr. Rusin has... And it pisses me off when i hear people say that bench press should be fixed with more benching! Great point Dave!
One thing I’ve noticed with some of the people Dave trains is that every time he says something they feel as if they have to interrupt or say something that makes them sound smart. Just stfu and listen to Dave. Great video nonetheless
@@minecraftlord568 the reverse band enables the coach to see how active/ tight the lifters lats are in the bottom of the bench. The weight is so light at the bottom, (with first couple sets) that you have to "pull" the bar to the chest
After 2,3 yrs. And being stubborn, I've got the whole bench procedure down....up on your traps, scapula, grip, the proper take out ,settling, etc etc. It has been a game changer and I PR most of my training. Be patient and consistent w the set up and trust me ,you will be happy. Focus.
O C Yep. And people just don’t know how to spot. Better idea- put weight on the par that you can handle or bench in the power rack with safety pins. I don’t need David Blaine levitating my barbell. Lift off and back off!
People can touch the bar but as Dave said this person must not put force into it! I can spot with my hands on the bar without fucking the lift up but to be honest almost nobody unless taught do it right
MuEnViFitness It depends on the gym. The vast majority of people do not have a clue how to spot. So I stopped using them a long time ago. I’ll set up safety pins in the power rack or just make sure it a weight I can handle. Don’t need David Blaine levitation under the bar.

The cue to pull the bar off the hooks is gold! This is a great series!

Holy shit that was awesome. So much good information. Thank you Dave and John
Great content Dave and Elitefts, thanks for putting stuff like this out
This info is gold. I just learned I know nothing about bench. Thanks!
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing!

So cool to hear people who dedicated their life to something speak about it. The knowledge Dave accumulated is insane.
Awesome video....A+
Best Bench video...EVER!
Thank Dave great 👍 Video
Dave thanks man
I am fucking loving this
Seems like Rusin has never watched any technique videos from the big Westside lifters.
Pure gold
21:08 “let them take the majority of the weight but still lift like 60% of it” lmfao
Jk this is some great advice. I’d like to see Dave pick my bench apart
Don't be a dick 😂😂
Dave Tate: “I’m not good with the maths, but I know bar paths.”
@@Powerlifterusa lmao I’m dead
Watching the squat video gave me a 20kg PR today.
Next bench session is on monday, we'll see how that plays out.
Damnnnnnn, would LOVE to get this guy to analyse my bench. Would pick it apart like a bucket of ribs..
His lockout makes my elbows hurt
Dave is a genius
I have been trying to pull the bar out for a year now, mission impossible.
What size pvc do you recommend using ? Amazing stuff man greatly appreciated
welp ima start belting up to spot so thats whats up
I have the same issue on the bench that Dr. Rusin has... And it pisses me off when i hear people say that bench press should be fixed with more benching! Great point Dave!
Jason Blaha comes to mind
Jason Blaha is a fucking idiot. How do you go to the gym that long, and still look like shit and be weak as shit. Dude's a fraud.
Dave is a genius jesus
wow! ... this man is a great teacher! and it definitely comes across even thru video
I dont even work out and I'm listening tom this guy LOL
„They have to warm up with really shitty sheqnique“ killed meeeee hahahahahah
Click on a dave tate video, an ad for vshreds comes on at the start. Lol

What kind of bar is that? I've never seen so many rings. Lol
Dave I have a question: Why would you use the reverse band set-up to assess someone's bench?
Juan Molano yeah I don’t get this choice of exercise either.

Sheqnique!
wish he could teach me
like i always said its not strength...ITS SKILL
I don’t like my spotter touching the bar
Agreed. You feel like you've 'cheated' even though he may have been applying no upwards force.
O C Yep. And people just don’t know how to spot. Better idea- put weight on the par that you can handle or bench in the power rack with safety pins. I don’t need David Blaine levitating my barbell. Lift off and back off!
Too right. How are your stabilisers supposed to work properly when someone's got their hands on the bar too...?

Fuck it's always annoying to get nuts in the face , realist shit I heard all day.
What’s the reverse band tension?
Looks like about 135+ at the bottom because he has to row the bar into his chest, and then almost nothing at lockout
if your spotter needs to wear lifting belt to help you unrack the bench you know you're strong :D
Dave Tate is a boss
"Sheqnique" 😂😂
Dr John chicken russin leg
Fucking Dave Tate knows his shit.
He's not listening to shit Dave says.
Funny how they cued the video up to his foam rolling when Dave talked about cringing lol. Russin is a walking cringe
damn brah... why the hate
anybody else disgusted by how dramatic Rusin is? Dude yells and grunts on a pallof press...
After bench press: "My ass is fuckin fucked". - Dr. John Rusin hahahaha awesome. Mr. Tate turning Dr's into meatheads.
Why the band's? Use the resistance gravity provides. Build from there. The reverse bands seem pointless. Could he do 405 for real. Don't think so.
westside barbell look em up...bands and chains really work
It sounds like you could teach Tate a thing or two...🙄
i thought it was 405 but its 365...inner plates are 25s...i still dont think he could do it
