Norm always wanted the real Burt Reynolds to show up during one of these sketches, then kick Norm off the set and then proceed to act like how Norm was portraying him.
Now that would have been an amazing sketch

Why didn’t he do it? I love Burt, & I’m surprised he never did it. He was stubborn in his early career - entertaining, yet stubborn. But he chilled out in his later years & poked fun at himself. What a legend!! All of them! ❤️

Every time a someone famous dies, it’s almost guaranteed that I learn about it on Facebook because most of my friends will pay their respects, making 90% of the comments on my wall about the celebrity that died.

That's what takes it to a whole new level. If you watch the Half-Wits SCTV sketch that was the inspiration for Celebrity Jeopardy, the host (played by Eugene Levy) did it mean. Exasperation works so much better.

it truly was. Darrell Hamond was great and he did a great bill clinton. before that it was phil hartman that did bc but hammond nailed it. his sean connery never failed to crack me up i miss him on the show

I actually remember watching this skit live the night it aired. This was definitely my “golden era” of SNL in my memory, when I was young enough that staying up late on Saturday Night was a special thing and SNL was simply the one and only thing that everyone watched from 11:30pm-1:00am on Saturday nights.
I also remember that at this time the show was totally dominated by Darrel Hammond and Will Ferrel - one or both of those guys was pretty much in every single sketch, killing it.
One of the only times that jimmy wasn't breaking character every 5 seconds During a sketch.
He’s fucking terrible. On SNL and as a talk show host.
You can see him start to break right after turd Ferguson but yea he did keep it together pretty well this sketch 😂

Norm has always been one of my favorite comedians! The first thing I did after I read the sad news yesterday was RUclips. After a video (or two, or three, or....?) I was LMAO. It was really odd to be laughing so hard while feeling so sad!

Many of the comedians are almost immune to having real genuine laughs after so much exposure and attempts at making jokes. Will is one of those who doesn't even fake laugh much as evident in one of his BBC interviews.

I don't think any famous person passing has gutted me more than Norm. I loved him so much. He's a card that always stood out from any deck.
I never had the chance to meet him but I feel as if a friend has passed away.
I am gutted by his passing. He was a riot.
A lot of us SCTV fans felt the same way many years ago with John Candy. And John was so, so young.
But dying in your early 60's is terrible, too. Especially when you brighten people's days like Norm. The worse things get in the world the more we need comedy as an outlet.
I can watch Norm's Kitchener Leslie and Moth jokes over and over. His guest appearances on Conan and Letterman were epic.
Maybe the only death I can think of that hurt me more was Robin Williams. The world is definitely a duller place without them both.
