- Fender Player Tele set up Love the false-start. Yep, no editing = mistakes stay IN. Here’s Rob’s Fender Player Tele in for set up. And I didn’t have a SD card for the camera… and I didn’t cut in the pictures anyway. Duh. Sorry. You can watch me taking close-ups for no good reason. I was suspicious of the way the nut on this guitar was cut - suspecting that the slots (at least some of them) were flat rather than sloping backwards which they need to be. This left the E and B slightly sitar-ing. In addition, there was a lot of fret slap from the rest of the strings (worse in the bass strings) and not at it’s lowest ideal action either. Lots of little details needing tweaking - including the alignment of the strings down the neck. This guitar is a good example of the Banana fret levelling file doing the two things it’s really good at: 1) taking down high frets (or bottoming out low frets) and 2) imposing it’s ‘more ideal curve’ onto the necks imperfect curve, creating a tiny bit more space and alleviating fret slap in the process.

Thank you Sam, the best in depth video on tele setup I have seen.
Many thanks for your kind comment!
Nice new digs, Sam. Looking forward to your setup. Good looking Tele.
I just got the deluxe Nashville tele, strings are a little high.. go the slight bow out but nerviouse about bridge saddle adjusting. I hope I can do this. Thanks. Subscribed.
Nice to see you in your new place. I'll miss the shed. Actually what's your plans for the shed now?
What are you doing when you put those 3 little magnets on the fingerboard ?
Hi Donald - I'm using them as a way to 'sample' the fingerboard curve (or neck relief) so that I can bend the levelling beam to match. This is important in the way I level frets - with the strings on and the neck under compression with string loading. My eBook '5 Steps to Guitar Set up Heaven' shows how to make and use this very inexpensive - but very effective - tool:

Sam, another cracking set-up video👍 Have you any plans for a new build series of videos?
Hi Brian - not yet... only because new builds take SO LONG relatively-speaking that you have to do a ton of filming and even more editing to make it work. At the moment I tend to build in 'down-time' as a break from filming lol. I have a build documented in the form of my next eBook coming up in a few days - but that's a 'by hand' build, minus most power tools.
Hey Sam, how about pick up height
Ok here we go I just so happen to purchased a squire telecaster and I need this thank you sir hope all is well for you
Doing great thanks Big Dave. Living the life: got the hammocks ready for enjoying the afternoon sunshine before going up for an evening shift at the workshop! #worklifebalance
That's the normal break angle behind the nut for the G string on the Player Series Tele's. 😬
Hello Sir
Speaking about twangy tele tone
Can we say that the three brass barrels, is the main reason of that tone?
I can see that country players, like that tone
But if someone is playing classic rock? Or jazz?
What can i do to minimise that twang feel?
Hi Dmitris - did you ask me this question a couple of years ago? I happened to see an old comment today :) It's a good question and I don't honestly know the answer to it. You can always change bridges for one with six solid individual saddles and compare the tone, maybe do some recordings for comparison...
@@SamDeeksRelovedGuitars thank you Sam
Honestly I don't remember if I did that question again 😔
RUclips makes me want to get in debt with another bit of kit. Harley Benton-give me a guitar, please, I'll play a crap solo, and sales will go up.
2021 wasn't a great year....neither is 2022....or the foreseeable future...
