I struggle with inspection notes as well I’ve thought it through what I’m gonna try this year is a yard note box stays at yard . Use a mail box put a small binder note book in there and make a habit of notes every visit return it to box . This is two fold important if something were to happen to me or speaking of any keeper could walk in the apiary and have an idea of what going on as well as you when you return . I’ve not seen this done but seems if you can be diligent in up keep it would work . Just an idea . Blessing to you all
My strategy for this year was to be organised by end of February, and today I finished the last job which was wiring the frames for my top bar hives. I've swapped my roofs out for the Canadian roof with the perspex viewing panel, it makes winter checks so easy, you just lift the cover, have a look and you can see what is happening without having to open a hive.
Hi Laurence mate, yes the new season is nearly upon us, the weather here in Liverpool has been very mild and are seeing lots of activity at the hives entrance s they are already collecting tons of pollen and im thinking nearly all my colonies have come through winter pretty strong, if the weather is with us this weekend I’ll pop the lids and get some fondant on, here’s hoping we’re all in for a good season. Thanks for sharing your vlogs with us mate.
love this! great reminder. Half term week and I've already made a load of frames ready for the supers i made up over Christmas! hive notes are my Achilles heel too... quick and easy the way to go.. As usual lots of info Thank you.
Seems like double work. Imagine having to go through footage for 50 hives when you come home after a hard day. I personally would rather put the feet up with a cup of tea
So far one dead out poly nuc to clean out, frames to build, frames to add foundation, cut out and prepare clear crown boards, repaint some boxes, get swarm kit ready.....that will do for now
I find that I'm building momentum when inspecting bees, but this momentum is thrown off completely when I've to write notes. This means in my opinion less efficency. So the fewer notes the better in my opinion. If you've nothing of significance to write, move on and write nothing.

Laminated Sheet/ form and use a china-graph pencil. Leave in the lid.

Wouldn't worry about notes, paint roofs white and just write important stuff on it

Spot on advice thank you
Wear you go pro camera and talk about each hive as you inspect then watch later and make notes at home

great advice to start the season, my hive notes are white gorilla tape stuck to hive and a sharpie :)

forgot tidy out apiary.....done also added some no dig patches with wild flower and borage seeds
You are making all of us stressed, Laurence?. Are you fully ready for a season? - Panic mode..
Bought some hives and more frame's in the sales, and typically run low on funds when i spot something else I need.
Advice from a OG beekeeper!
How do I go about it when ai have a double blood configuration?
How do you mean, Manuel?
I like keeping the voice recorder on my phone running while doing the inspections sometimes saying it out loud helps to dial it into the memory
We’re damn near in he middle of February lol
Youv got a recommendation from Frederic Dun q&a 195
Thanks Emma! 😊 I was very proud when I saw that! 😀
