    We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
    We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
    Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.
    www.blackmountainhoney.co.uk/...
    We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

    We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our RUclips channel.
    On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
    #NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
    We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
    My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
    We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

    Looking forward to receiving our Nuc tomorrow. Using a top bar hive here but plan on some British Nationals for the future and some log hives on the outer land. Its as much about helping the bees as it is the bonus of the honey. Just want to say though, anyone looking to deal with a professional could do far worse than work with Laurence at Black Mountain.

    Greetings from the US. Thanks for this video. I put an orchard on our property last year and just ordered 2 nucs and 2 bare hives. Wasnt sure how to move them to their permanent home.

    Hi mate, just wanted to say thank you for your vids, they are so so helpful. I had two questions if you didn't mind, if you've got videos on these topics let me know.
    1. Do you/should you put anything under the pallets to prevent weeds coming through. Or could this be an area where lots of nasties collect themselves? Is it pointless?
    2. Is checking hives after 5pm in the summer ok providing its warm and light?
    Thanks again! We get our bees soon, so exciting

    My dad suddenly ordered honeybees and told me to do everything as he’s not home so I have been watching a lot of RUclips videos on how to put together beehive and how to transfer bees from the nuke to the hive. The bees are coming in the mail. If you could help me with other questions I might have that I’ll be great.

    At what point would you recommend moving an overwintered polynuc to a poly hive? They seem to have lots of food and little space. Is there a swarming risk early march?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  4 месяца назад +1

      I would be inclined to go towards end of March at the absolute earliest. But it only takes a nice 1hr sting of weather to do it. Once they in the new home, they are fine :)

    Great info I'm getting a Nuc this weekend and just caught a swarm 2 days ago. I plan to add a frame feeder to each hive. How much do you think they'll need to draw comb out also how long before checking in on them?

  • @Jimbo12716
    @Jimbo12716 2 месяца назад

    Wouldn't you do it in the am when they haven't left the hive yet ?

  • @AA-pm8iz
    @AA-pm8iz 2 года назад +1

    Super video thanks. Question - if you have drawn frames or frames with stores can you add and skip the feeding?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  2 года назад +1

      Yes you can! Drawn frames are the best option but you can add a frame or two of stores as well if you feel they need stores. Only risk is to congest the brood nest. A mix of the two would be ideal

  • @ultrasteve9031

    Great vid. I've followed advice before to dummy board them down to keep the bees warm by giving less space. Do you not bother with them? Cheers

    Awesome vid ! I have a nuc that is going to rapidly grow as they have 2 frames of full brood. Should I transfer them before they expand or should I wait for the bees to expand. Thanks!

      I wouldn't get ahead of yourself unless there's a massive flow or very good weather you're probably a couple weeks off needing to transfer the nuc.

      Hi Malcolm. I'd order ASAP. We will be selling out soon and then the orders will be closed 😞 We will ship all May delivery nucs hopefully by the middle of May.

    Do you need to move food frames more to the outside or do bees rearange the food frames themselves?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  2 года назад

      If you do it in the same order as the nuc, it's already prearranged

  • @lagrangebees
    @lagrangebees 2 года назад

    Having the frames perpendicular to the entrance is something I've never seen before, I presume this has no impact on the hive?

  • @russdean6598
    @russdean6598 2 года назад

    I was going to ask about the orientation of the frames, will you be doing a short video on the pro’s and con’s of the different frame direction.

    Hi Lawrence I’ve purchase a Longstroth hive and inserts , can I still use your DN4 frames?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Malcolm. If you have bought a Langstroth hive you will need a Langstroth nuc and not the DN4 (deep nationals). Drop me an email and we can switch you to Langstroth 😀
